8 Simple Remedies That Make Your Home Bugs Free (Without Chemicals)

The one thing we have never learned to live side by side with are bugs and insects. In summer, especially, our homes are often invaded. It would be really nice to lift the insects and carry them outside where they belong, but maybe we just don’t want them inside in the first place.

Try these natural remedies to make your home insect free

Pick a few leaves from your garden, or buy them from the store, crush them and sprinkle them around your house. The smell will sto any bugs from coming into your home. You can even sprinkle them in your baby’s cradle. Dry some leaves and put a leaf packet in your closet, between linen and even under your mattress. It will keep your clothes, linen and mattress smelling good and bug free.

Lavender, Rosemary and Eucalyptus

These three oils work exceptionally well against bed bugs. Buy (or make) the essential oils. Add three drops of each oil into a cup of water, mix well and fill a spray bottle. Spray near the bugs, or where you want to get rid of the bugs. Shake well before use.

Peppermint Oil

Bugs, especially spiders, do not like the smell of peppermint. Mix a few drops of the oil with water, pour into a spray bottle, shake well and spray lightly. It will keep the spiders away as well as making your house smell fresh and delicious.

Baking soda

Baking soda will actually kill the bugs that you are not comfortable having around. You can spread some around your house, in cracks and crevices. The baking soda draws moisture from the insect bodies. After a few days, sweep or vacuum.

Like with the oils, you can mix vinegar with water and spray. This is easy as most of us have vinegar in the kitchen cupboards. The smell is the disadvantage but it does disappear with time.

Cayenne Pepper

You just need to sprinkle a little bit of this in your problem areas, but do make sure that no pets can eat it. Bugs will stay away, cayenne pepper is very strong for them.

Of course and finally there is the good old vacuum cleaner. Vacuum regularly to keep your house clean, do a whole lot of dusting, sweeping and spring cleaning and you may find the bugs just don’t come inside.
