If placebo medication can be as effective as prescription medication for treating certain diseases, then you can bet your ass that Acesulfame-K and aspartame can induce a endocrinological response which is identical to consuming a sugar-containing beverage. Except you didn't actually consume any sugar and now your body has released insulin to convert glucose to glycogen and glycogen to fat, so your glucose level plunges and your body thinks you're starting, and tells you to go eat, or at least eat more than you would have normally, after drinking the diet soda.

Diet sodas are a bottle of enamel-dissolving acid full of chemicals with weak connections to cancers that induce you to overeat. Drink water and treat any soda as a treat. And brush your fricking teeth.

Absolutely based and informative post. You don't see much of this on IST. Except for:
      >treat soda as a treat
Once you find the right diet, you will think soda is disgusting and it will make you feel sick. Same thing with candy and donuts and twinkies, etc.

        >you will think soda is disgusting and it will make you feel sick. Same thing with candy and donuts and twinkies, etc.
        ehhhhh, yes and no.

By this logic, an extremely intelligent, deeply philosophical, enlightened individual would find sex to be revolting because it's a base act that takes away from the expansion of the mind. Or a scientist thinking it would take away from their research.

But in reality, we're all monkeys and would slap an orgasm button instead of a food button until we were died. Sugary (or in this case, artificially sweet) food and beverages, nicotine, cocaine, etc. all make your brain very, very happy for a moment regardless of their related effects and are physiological, rather than psychological effects. You can't out-mediate/out-think physiology.

If you genuinely feel this way, it's much more likely that you're actually associating those foods and drinks with the way your life is or was when consume them (or after them) and you find that displeasurable. Which speaks to a very deep-seated mental discipline. Good for you.

Thanks for admitting it. Most fatties don't talk about it until they lose the weight.

admit what? That I hate myself? I for sure fricking hate myself. I just wish it was the kind of self-hatred where I could punish myself by not eating and forcing myself to go for walks instead of the kind of self-hatred where I just keep doing the things that are keeping me in the state of fricking hating myself.
I'm thankful that it's not the kind of self-hatred that makes me want to kill myself, but by the same token, what's the point in not killing myself when I'm as miserable as I am and it's not improving at all?

      Anyway, soda bad.

Shit like that most definitely fricks with the endocrine system. I'm also inclined to believe it's harmful to gut bacteria/produces changes there as well and that's going to have a much bigger effect than we could possibly know (any research on gut bacteria at all is in its absolute infancy).
At the same time, it might be helpful for people that absolutely CANNOT give up soda/sweetened beverages for any length of time. I would personally just make the switch to water (and did many years ago) but not everyone has that sort of willpower.

sometimes I find myself on quora for a weird insight into just how differently some other people live. I must have made a login at some point to avoid the wall and autosaved it to my phone. Occasionally I’ll be googling some question and it comes up on quora and I end up scrolling through bullshit on there. The people on there are so insanely moronic and full of shit that it’s fascinating. I just find it crazy how they clearly actually use it as their social media. It’s almost like suddenly being able to understand Chinese and browsing some foreign social media site. Random suburban housewives and hobby obsessed pseuds from bumfrick nowhere USA ranting and rambling. It’s not like Reddit or Facebook or imageboards or even forums. It’s a very unique crowd and I’m not sure why they’re drawn to that format. Almost like an evolution of yahoo answers as a social media site

It's not made up, taste has endocrinological action, all of your senses are tied into your peripheral nervous system and there are multiple overlapping pathways that lead to the same outcome. The insulin response from diet soda is not as strong because the sugar never arrives so the additional actors on the pancreas never come into effect, but you are simply wrong if you think that tasting sweetness doesn't also contribute to the response. Diet sodas in moderation won't be a problem, but there are people who drink them like water because they think zero calories zero sugar = zero effect on the body. Drinking several diet sodas a day for years will absolutely contribute to insulin resistance.

it's bad because it tastes like shit, and artificial sweeteners cause insulin reaction since for some reason tastebuds signal more to your body to release it than the sugar itself.

When I worked at mcdonalds, there was a type of customer who would order just a large diet coke, and always when they pulled up it would be a middle aged woman, suv or minivan, 220-300 pounds. We had a few regulars that were addicted to this shit. I'd always wonder if they loved diet coke because they were big and it felt like they were making a better choice or if too much diet coke contributed to making them big because the sweetness was still causing an insulin response, and since there was no sugar in the coke, the insulin tanks their blood sugar and then they feel the need to eat other shit.
