5 Ways To Fight Tooth Decay Naturally

A British study has shown that by changing your diet you can fight tooth decay and cavities. There were 62 participants (children) with cavities in this study. They were separated into 3 groups, each one with a different diet.

Group 1 had a normal diet, just added oatmeal to it. Oatmeal contains plenty of phytic acid.

Group 2 also had a standard diet, just added vitamin D to it, and Group 3 took this vitamin as well, just consumed a grain-free diet.

Group 1 actually had the worst results, since their cavities only grew. Group 2 was a little better, since it still ate a diet high in grains, but they took vitamin D. And group 3 had the best results. Almost all of the cavities in the children of this group were cured.

The 4 most common things that cause tooth decay:

  • Mineral deficiency (calcium, phosphorus and magnesium)
  • Fat-soluble vitamin deficiency (vitamins A, E, D, K)
  • High intake of phytic acid-rich foods
  • High intake of processed sugar

Therefore, to fight tooth decay naturally, here’s what you can do:

1. Remove sugar from your diet

We all know that sugar is bad for your teeth. If you already have teeth problems, you should remove it from your diet completely. It’s bad because of more things, for example it prevents a good flow of dental fluids, feeds the oral bacteria and is very acidic. Because of this, the structural content of your teeth might demineralize and decalcify.

2. High intake of nutrient-rich foods

To prevent and reverse tooth decay, you need to consume more fat-soluable vitamins and minerals. Therefore, eating lots of vegetables (leafy green vegetables) and other foods which contain plenty of healthy fats can make tooth decay go away in no time. Some of the foods you should consider are nuts, seeds, coconut oil and avocado.

3. Take away phytic acid from your diet

Phytic acid can be very dangerous for your health, since it can cause osteoporosis or some mineral deficiencies. This is because it doesn’t allow you to absorb the minerals from the food you consume, while it leaches the minerals out of the teeth, bones and body. You should be careful and eliminate GMO foods from your diet.

4. Oil pulling

Take a tbsp of coconut oil and swish it around your mouth. Keep it for around 20 minutes, then spit it out. It may be difficult at first, so try slowly, at first 5 minutes is enough.

5. Buy a mineralizing toothpaste

Although most of these toothpastes are expensive (since they are fluoride-free), some companies offer them cheaper.

You can create one at your home with natural ingredients. Here’s a recipe:

  • 3 tablespoons of food grade diatomaceous earth clay
  • 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon mint-flavored chlorophyll
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon filtered water
