      What tide? What are you talking about? If something it has turned the opposite. People pretty much unanimously agreed in 2011 (when I started lifting) that you dont need to train abs. You were literally a schizo if you thought otherwise. I have recently been seeing far bigger change in sentiment that yeah if you dont train abs, you wont have abs.

You were literally a schizo if you thought otherwise. I have recently been seeing far bigger change in sentiment that yeah if you dont train abs, you wont have abs.

      This myth was mostly propagated by either powerlifters or functional fitness advocates who believed heavy compounds worked the core sufficiently. Needless to say, this may be the case for bracing and strength, but is total fricking bullshit when it comes to hypertrophy. The reason being is that, like any muscle group in the entire body, the weighted stretch component is what induces the most stimulus to the muscles. A heavy squat has no weighted stretch component. A 3x12 weighted decline sit-up will stretch the frick out of your abs and make them sore for days, if you have never worked them properly before.
      As soon as I started seriously training my abs for hypertrophy, two to three times per week, focusing on progressive overload in decline sit-ups and hanging knee/leg raises, keeping the tempo as slow and controlled as possible, my abs blew the frick up. At higher body fat percentages, too.
      Don't fall for powerlifting dogma; they have almost no clue how to build muscle.

        My thing is if youre deadlifting a lot how the frick can you keep your abs as strong as your back?
