          The other factor is alcohol disrupting liver function in the short term. When there's a couple of drinks in you your liver prioritizes purging your system of the alcohol so it can't properly process other things in your system, such as food.

      I typically have a Bud Zero post-workout. Way better feeling than cracking a Miller Lite or something with alcohol.
      When I drank I would drink beer until I was tipsy enough for shots, then get piss hammered and order pizza and wings and whatever else the drunk child in my body wanted. Alcohol can 100% be a gains goblin.

        Non alcoholic beer is interesting, it's gotten a lot better in recent years (although bud zero is not great, IMO) but it really highlights the fact that alcohol compels you to drink more of it. You can't possibly drink a half dozen non alcoholic beers in a night, but people would certainly drink that many alcoholic beers.

        When I have a NA beer, I can't drink more than one usually, not because they're not good.

    I was a pretty bad alcoholic for 5 or so years. I have quit completely and been working out for 5+ months and it's taking forever to get all the fat from the beer I accumulated off of me. I do lots of cardio every gym session too.

    im fasting rn (on a 16/8 leangain during Ramadan) and I notice my lifts were shit when I ate a ton of fried foods the day before for iftaar during a family meetup after refusing to eat that stuff for most of Ramadan. I usually eat hulled barley lamb broth porridge for bulk during the 6 hours eating window, which provided me with a ton of energy for morning gym. But the only time I indulged in desi/Arab fried shit, I couldnt even do 3 sets of my main compound exercises. I just kept gassing out.

    So fried processed foods is probably preddy bad too.

    love me a good beer after a hike/5K. Alcohol is shit thanks to the culture of it in the US; too many people get addicted to it and its seen as okay and even something desirable (think of all the suave alcoholics on TV).
    Drinking in moderation is fine imo. It doesn't ruin gains unless you drink constantly.
    I homebrew beer. I drink a beer or two on the weekends, rarely on the weekdays unless its some sort of celebration.
    I also love wienertails, but I have to go to wienertail bar for that, which I do like once every month or 2. Rarely my fiance and I like to get shitfaced while cooking dinner and end up just being silly drunks together and drunk-fricking later, but we're too old to do that shit more than once in a blue moon (hangovers).
    In moderation I found no impact on my strength gains honestly. Sugar/preprocessed food has wrecked my shit far more often.
