All you really need for self defense is a good stiff jab to the jaw, the harder and faster, the better.

All you really need for self defense is a good stiff jab to the jaw, the harder and faster, the better.

How can I train this? How can I have the strongest, fastest jab in the world?

I don't think this would work in every scenario.

Weight transfer rear to front foot, spring off the back without coming too "up", lead hip forward, throw the shoulder, snap arm at connection
    Aka "ask a boxing coach"

      >fastest in the world
Genetics and training from a young age. But you can still be fast. Literally just do explosive chest and arm exercises. Then actually train on the bag.
      >all you really need
You would be much better advised to learn grapples and blood chokes

      Literally
Everyone knows they're a tough guy until someone's hammering their face
You do legit need to fight, skip this and get cleaned when you face an actually violent opponent
There's a lot more to this than just standing there and swinging

Bit of a story from my time at my old uni's kickboxing club
      >running the fresher's week stall
      >aka all the sports & social clubs in the uni set up stalls in the sports hall, then the freshers stream in and you recruit them to your club
      >doing this for a few hours
      >notice we're getting way more female signups than male
      >I'm far from chad so it's not me
      >start paying attention
      >notice how females immediately sign up with a smile and "why not?" sort of thing
      >if a pair or trio of girls go past, convince one and she'll inevitably convince the others
      >meanwhile males hover at a distance, eyeing the stall
      >when you go over and talk to them, half the time they immediately refuse and leave
      >realise what's happening
All men think they know how to fight, but a lot of them must know on some level that they don't really
For these men, joining a combat sport club risks killing that comfortable delusion they have
Men want to think they will be badass when the time comes, even if they won't admit to themselves that they aren't
Those of us who train combat sports lose that delusion from the very first class, when you realise punching things takes skill and conditioning you don't have, and even if you're a natural the first time you spar oh boy are you in for an awakening
Women meanwhile have no such delusions, they know they can't fight, in fact most of them literally will never fight someone who attacks them, they just submit, it's their nature. So there's no risk to them if they start training combat sports the same way for men
So that's why men are averse to actually training, and instead ask stupid questions on the internet so they can imagine themselves winning a fight

      >just join a boxing or mma gym
      >why are people so averse to this?
Because neither boxers nor MMA fighters have a good track record in self defense fights. So, why bother, unless you want to be a combat sport athlete, which no one has any interest in in the first place.

    A jab won't cut it:

    >a) a jab to the jaw won't stop an aggressive foe - you'd have to considerably outweigh your enemy and jab well to do anything with it
    >b) a jab to the jaw hurts but will not put someone down or hurt them enough to make them rethink what they're doing
    >c) someone who knows how to jab can and will break their arm jabbing barefisted with boxers technique. [The boxer jab {i.e twisting wrist movement} developed with use of gloves. It is a gloved 'psudeo-fighting' punch, not one with any real use barefisted. A straight jab with a static, vertical fist is better and less likely to lead to hand injuries]
    d) by focusing on a jab you are playing to an untrained fighters greatest strength - their cross. What you need to do in a streetfight against a bum is watch out for a running overhand right. The way to combat this is blocking with your left or sidestepping to the right and then crossing your enemy. By fighting for the jab you're doing the exact opposite of what you should do

Don't jab dummy. A finger poke to the eye or a smack to the ear are instant fight enders for low level streetfights, not a fricking jab.

Even better is a strike to the throat or grasping the throat and throwing one of the basic leg sweeps from Judo to get them on the ground.

        >Even better is a strike to the throat
A good target, but not an easy target for anyone who has a good stance or defensive instinct.

Rowing with a staff grip it tight, push it outwards, scoop it back and repeat. Train punching in the half step crouch until you can do it well enough without wobbling around like uncoordinated frick, do knuckle push up isometrics against a solid wall, hold for 5 in both positions and more at the straight arm one. Running is good as well.

If you have a good hook you can potentially knock them out if you hit them just right. Don't need overwhelming strength to do it either. Just need enough strength to turn their neck suddenly.

Only thing is that anyone with bit of self-defense or situational awareness knows a hook will come first from untrained or basic fighters who think that's all it takes.

I still wouldn't lose the fight and 99% of normies would fall for the hook. Good enough. Not like OP is fighting Tyson (where I learned it from), Bruce Lee, or McGregor. Even normies that go to martial arts will fall for it.

Normies that watch UFC can still take you out if they exercise at least a little bit and have been in a fight or two.

          Real facts.

This is true for any sport too. Mad doubt. Look at the fans in general. On average they are out of shape and don't actually seek opportunities to grow stronger or fight. The hook is the best self-defense option and people only see it coming if you telegraph it. That or they get hit with so many hooks that after seeing someone in any form approaching a hook set up they get triggered and subconsciously react. Even in street fights where dudes get one hit KOed it's usually from a hook.

Bruce Lee was moronic but his lead straight/jab was a pretty solid strategy. You fight with your good foot forward and use a strong straight jab to open. You can Google the technique. It's good against moderately trained people but a good boxer will just slip it or have their hands up.

Except you want your power hand back so you can parry with your non-dominant hand instead of crossing yourself up or countering with your weak hand
