People like that, and people who mention that they’re suicidal/have been saved piss me off for some reason beyond contempt. I was watching some YouTube recap of a streamer reading a note about how he saved some suicidal morons life by making entertaining videos/streams and it just pissed me off some some reason. Like if the difference between you killing your self or not is some guy playing video games, you’re not suicidal you’re a lonely moronic fricking loser. I was filled with a primal urge to break his legs in 15 places with a crowbar

Yeah some people really do live trivial and trifling lives. But also sometimes there's something very insignificant that manages to change your entire perception and find enjoyment in life.

Like a nice album or movie. Sometimes a streamer can be that spark that gets you to finally smile after a long depression.

I used to feel that way. Then I realized I really wanted to break my own kneecaps for feeling how I felt. It had nothing to do with the other guy. Hope you're well anon WAGMI

Various aspects of our modern society have messed with the human reward and achievement chemistry within our brains.
      >mandatory public education
      >debt based economy
      >sexual liberation resulting in a loveless society
      >proliferation of drugs killing dopamine receptors permanently
And many other factors. People have difficulty adapting to a set of rules they weren't genetically hardcoded to withstand.
That said, there are a bunch of homosexuals these days making mountains out of molehills in an attempt to gain sympathy, or try to rationalize why they feel the way they feel. People have it too good, and need to create problems for themselves for no reason

  7. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

The gym would legit help with this though. It gives you focus. It gives you a goal. It makes you healthier. It improves your confidence. It gives you structure.

This are all of the things you would lose if you lost your job, wife, house etc. It won't solve those problems, but it will help alleviate feeling negative.

Anyone who disagrees should just die now.

  8. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

It's still unironically good advice. Even if you life is complete shit, physical exertion does stimulate a release of dopamine and does make you feel slightly better. Yeah it's not going to solve your very real problems, but it certainly helps to put you in a better, more optimistic frame of mind to attempt to fix things, since you now have at least some happy chemicals floating around preventing you from spiraling off the deep end and coming to the seemingly rational conclusion/solution of KYSing yourself. Personally I find cardio does the job better though. But perhaps lifting heavy will help expression assertive/dominance chemicals like testosterone making you feel like less of a helpless worthless b***h.

I hate "current year" gays. Fitness had always been a part of human culture, and as someone who's life is going downhill in all aspects but fitness, I can tell you going to the gym helps. Redditors need to die.

Obviously gym isn't a solution and end to all your problems, but it's a start
I too can guarantee you that this redditor, and likely most people who're depressed, haven't lost everything in their lives in some melodramatic tragedy and are probably just fat and lonely shut-ins

  14. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

redditors want an endless pity party, but the most important thing for getting over hardship is to not dwell on how bad your situation is. Exercising helps pull you out of doom spiraling thought loops and into the physical world. I've spent a lot of my life depressed, and while going to the gym has never cured me, it has never made me worse. The depressed mind cynically focuses on how any one thing isn't going to fix you and uses that as an excuse to do nothing. It's true no one thing will fix you, but they can help you. Do not mistake depression's tunnel vision pessimism as being cold hard truth.

Based. I tend to have these really negative thoughts about the gym too especially when work is tough. "You could sleep for an extra hour instead, why bother with this?" but I always feel better and stay on tempo when I get my sessions in.
Learning that you can have aspects of your life going badly without nuking everything is a really important lesson

Unironically great advice. Gym gives you something to wake up for in the morning. Dream of bigger lifts and a better body gives you hope for a brighter future. Gym instills a productive mindset. Gym keeps you moving which creates happy chemicals. I like gym.

But you were not depressed in those two hours. So you only have to get through 14 waking hours depressed. And for those you find other stuff, even if each of them only takes you out of your misery for a short time, in the end it will paint a whole picture of improved mood and quality of life. A few years ago I lost my job. I had just moved out of my hometown and bought a house. I had no friends, a large portion of my savings tied up in a down payment, and an impending mortgage I didn't know how I was going to afford. Full time job was trying to find a job, sending out multiple applications a day (weekends too) and hearing nothing back.

If I didn't keep going to the gym, I would have probably given up and moved back home. But if I could still show up regularly, keep grinding and keep making progress, just show up and do the work, no matter how stressed I was or how shitty I felt, I knew I could handle it. Stress handled under intense exercise directly translates to being able to handle other stress in life. Gym doesn't just train physical strength, it builds mental strength as well.

Reddit has always been and will always be about wallowing in self pity, and blaming others for your problems. Solutions are met with excuse making. It’s the literal biggest losers in life.

Financially, physically, emotionally, relationshiply, redditors are bottom barrel scum across the board

The gym is about discipline and self agency. It will never fit with Reddit culture. But hey, maybe Sanders will run again next election cycle to give them something to attach their existence to

Gym unironically helps with everything you mentioned and that’s what the redditor doesnt understand

All those outcomes come from the same condition. Weakness. Excuse making. Lack of control over life.

Does gym magically fix those? No. Does becoming someone who can take ownership of their life, with a first step being regular pursuit of fitness, fix those? Yes.

All of the issues that squid redditor cried about are connected. But they aren’t looking for solutions. They are looking for validation. Until you have the strength to look critically at yourself and understand your faults you will never be able to improve
