      I know that feel, bro.
Have to tell myself that there's no point in using food as a comfort if I'm stressed or sad, because it'll just make me fat and stressed/sad, and then I'll really have something to be stressed about.

Of course, but good luck finding those, almost every single pastry I look at in the store uses margarine and not butter

My biggest sacrifice when I started dieting was that I couldn't bake as often as I liked to. I'd make towering cream cakes for special occasions, Danish pastries for coffee get-togethers, fruit cobblers, pies, cakes, crumbles and jams whenever fruit was in season - I had a rhubarb cake recipe that was so filled with butter that it looked almost undercooked - and perfectly chewy and crusty brownies with a salt caramel sauce, Chocolate Nemesis with a raspberry coulis served with raspberry ice wine, cheesecake with gingerbread bottom and the lid stuffed with redcurrants and blueberries for my mate who has an egg intolerance. Butterscotch, spice cakes, Franz Joseph bites and traditional Christmas cakes around Christmas, glazed almonds, I'd bake and make sweets maybe half the year.
I mean, of course I can still bake, and I still make the jam, but giving it away just isn't the same as sinking your teeth into something you've put time and effort into and finding out that you've gotten it just right.

This is what got me. I was never SUPER in shape because I was a nerdy inside boy and I didn't do sports, but I didn't get truly fat until I got dumped, fell into a depression and started eating to fill the void in my soul. And it's crazy how hard it is to break that habit, even once you beat the depression and get healthier.

Anyone else fat just because they really fricking like food?

I don't mean in the fatty cope sense. I am not stuffing my face with cheapo fast food to drown the sadness away. I am not an emotional eater, at worst I'll sometimes snack out of boredom but don't really keep snacks in the house because of it. I just really enjoy well-made food and have a tremendous appetite for it. I love to cook and eat out at nice restaurants. Whenever I go out to eat, unless I consciously stop myself, I will virtually always eat everything on my plate, unless the portion is particularly obscene. I wouldn't say I am particularly afflicted by hunger pangs, and I am a big fan of intermittent fasting and have done multi-day fasts with ease. Good food is just good food and I can't help but be a glutton for it.

At my largest I was 240 at 5'7". Don't care much for sweets and don't drink sweetened beverages either.

I'm in the same boat, Anon. No sweet drinks, not too much sugar, was a landwhale anyway. Have you been poor as a child by any chance?

If there is food on my plate, I'll eat it. It just cannot, it mustn't go to waste. I remember what the true hunger was like, getting by on scraps sucked. Poverty is a b***h.

When I grew up and got on my feet, my financial situation drastically improved. I am no longer poor, in fact I've completely turned my life around and I'm probably in the top 10% these days. As soon as I could afford it, I started eating good fricking food. Just... too much of it. I hit 250 lbs @ 5'10" before I decided to change my life around.

I'm currently somewhere around 215 lbs and 170-180 range is my ultimate goal. You are not alone in this.

My family definitely had money struggles at times, but it was well hidden from me and we certainly never went hungry. My mom is a great cook and adventurous eater and instilled in us a strong appreciation for good food. My parents also grew up in poverty with food scarcity, so ensuring there was always food on the table no matter what was always their top priority. It also made them instill in me this notion of 'you MUST clear your plate!', which I think never really allowed me to naturally develop an internal barometer for satiety. Unless I pre-plan my portions or think consciously about it while eating, I will pretty much eat whatever is in front of me until I'm uncomfortable.

I didn't mean it as if it was a faux pas, just that when I go out to eat I will commonly see people hardly make a dent in their food, and not even ask for it to go. My brain is pretty hardwired into clearing a plate of food unless I quite literally feel like I'll be sick to do so.

Unlike you I am an emotional eater and I have historically loved junk food, but my emotional eating days are mostly behind me and I generally don't eat that much junk food. The biggest issue is absolutely that I fricking love food and always want to sample new taste sensations and dishes. Whenever I pass by an artisan bakery or see like five things I want on a restaurant menu or visit another country with unique delicacies I just want to try fricking everything. I just LOVE tasting things so much.

      >Don't care much for sweets and don't drink sweetened beverages either.
I fricking love sweets, but I can't stand carbonated beverages. I mostly just drink water and coffee. I'll occasionally have a wienertail when drinking socially, but again that's another case of my love of trying tastes.

Gaining weight can indeed be a challenge for some people, especially if they have a naturally low appetite or a fast metabolism. However, for others, overeating and a sedentary lifestyle can lead to weight gain. Eating large amounts of high-calorie foods, especially those that are high in sugar and fat, can add up quickly and contribute to weight gain over time. Stress eating is also a common cause of overeating, as people often turn to food as a form of comfort.

It's important to remember that weight gain is a complex issue and can be influenced by a variety of factors, including genetics, hormones, lifestyle choices, and psychological factors. The key to healthy weight management is finding a balanced approach that works for you, which may involve making changes to your diet, exercise habits, and overall lifestyle.

Forget pastries. This right here is probably the #1 cause of american obesity, especially in females. People think its normal to have a starbucks drink loaded with sugar EVERY DAY. The line for dunkin donuts or starbucks near my house is constantly a mile long. This right here is why half of zoomer girls have to tuck their oversized gut into their spandex pants.

Yeah, and the funny part is that coffee is a decent weight loss and exercise aid if it's by itself. It's basically 0 calories, a bunch of caffeine, keeps your bowels nice and clear. Everyone dumps 700 calories of cream and sugar into it though and guzzles that shit alongside a full breakfast, it's a recipe for obesity.

Exactly, like what are we looking at here? A quarter cup of milk, a quarter cup of heavy whipping cream, 4 oreos, three tablespoons of chocolate syrup, one tablespoon of vanilla syrup. They turned a 0 calorie drink into like 650 calories by my estimates just going off the top of my head. They aren't just eating that with their toast either, it's alongside a croissant or bagel slathered in cream cheese, some sort of pastry or bready thing that's an additional 400 calories minimum. They start their day eating half their daily caloric value at breakfast with foods that aren't very filling, so they're starving and eat a big meal at lunch and dinner. This is how these fat fricks get over 3k calories regularly while thinking they're still eating healthy because some of those 3,000 calories included some strawberries or an apple or something.

Yeah, and metabolism is wild. If you've got a high one enjoy it because mine is shit and if I didn't log my meals daily and keep track of where I am and restrict myself to stay under the right numbers (which are fairly low) I'd be fat in no time. I put on muscle really easily in the gym though so there's that. I know a lot of high metabolism guys who struggle to gain muscle mass in spite of lifting heavy and eating as much as they can. It would be nice to be a good balance inbetween. I suppose there are people like that, decent metabolism, decent ability to put on muscle. Must be nice. Oh well, gotta play the hand you're dealt.

I never really ate "emotionally", as in, I'd buy food cuz I feel sad, but food was definitely comforting.

I also did IF/OMAD for my entire life, and I ended up at 400+ pounds, I'd eat a 5k dominos order almost daily.

I just don't really get satisfied with meals, but I like the feeling of being full/stuffed, so it's really a b***h. But being 20~lbs off 12% bf I know damn well when I binge at the buffet it's gonna feel damnnnnn good.

Also I never ate sweets, so when I finally stopped being obese i never trained the fat brain. Now they are my only demise, frick pastries ffs.

Even then, you basically have to never exercise to actually get fat. It's a combination of eating like shit most of the time, never doing any exercise and having zero portion control.

it's so easy to over eat by a pound a week, what?

1 (one) donut is 250 calories. You eat that shit daily + maintence thats half a pound a week.

      >1 donut wont kill you if you're active
my TDEE at maximum would end up nearing 2500-2800. I can eat that in 2 meals without trying if I ate the right food, let alone some moron who doesnt know better.

Exercise + Shit diet = Powershitter
Shit Diet + Shit Exercise = Obese
      Exercise + Diet = Athletic

portion control is a meme, if I ate without calorie counting I'd end up fat as shit, clean or dirty. yeah thats portion control, but I can eat like shit with portion control.

most normalgays are fat as frick, also if I ate half a cheesecake once a week I'd still be gaining 0.5lbs a week, even if it was once a week. a donut won't kill you obviously.

half a cheesecake isnt that much, and what I do at the gym doesn't effect my TDEE as much as I'd wish it did, for the same time I'd get double to triple that in cardio calories

Do you only lift usually? I go five days a week and do an hour of lifting 4x a week and an hour of cardio 5x a week

I WAS doing 4-5x a week 90 minute a day, full isolation for each individual muscle + 20,000 steps a day, until I was waking up with cramps in the middle of the night and my wiener stopped working

Now I go 4x, I'd rather do PPLPP then ULxUL cuz I don't need legs 2. I kinda slump on cardio, but I get a minimum of 30m 7x, if I go above 450 minutes shit starts happening to me again.

I burn like 250-300cals (that I can eat back, so like 300-380 actually) per 30m and then only like 75-150 on weights. I don't pussy around on my weights either inb4, I'm cranking that shit.

All together at maximum I'd be ~2750, at minimum ~2500
