If you mean long-term this can help, along with getting more vitamin D, both from sun and diet in addition to potassium and magnesium. Regular running can also help. Be careful of supplements, especially magnesium, since most seem to be laxatives, try getting as much from diet as possible. Leafy vegetables are great for magnesium while not having too many calories. Beets allegedly contain nitrates that can give you a temporary reduction in blood pressure. Hawthorn, hibiscus, and ashwaghanda have been used as folk remedies for it, but not sure how scientific it is.
Environment plays a role too. I live in an area with air pollution that could rival Beijing, also one of the last places where a lot of people still smoke cigarettes (not a smoker myself, but second hand is hard to avoid), and keeping my blood pressure down is difficult, but not impossible. I'm considering moving and if you're in a similar place you should too.

Spend every waking moment in active meditation until you reach enlightenment. The ensuing inner peace will decrease your blood pressure.

Not OP but i've been using Sam Harris' "waking up" app for the past few months (in addition to random zen meditation / lectures on youtube). I spend a lot of time meditating when I can.

Sometimes I feel like it's doing something but most days I feel absolutely zero difference. I'm going to stick with it but man it's discouraging sometimes.

I'm in the same boat as you. While it's hard to tell exactly how much "better" meditation makes me feel, I think that it has given me a better outlook on life. It has also given me a better understanding of myself and what it means to be alive/conscious.

I'm honestly not sure if all these yogis are bullshitting about enlightenment or not, and if they aren't I don't know if I'll ever attain it. What is enough for me is that I can live without being taken for a ride by my own incessant thinking.

Ironically giving up the need for "progress" in meditation might be one of the best ways to make progress.

The most important lifestyle changes to reduce hypertension are to lose weight, do cardio 5 or more times a week, and reduce the amount of sodium in your diet. Read the DASH diet, which is specifically designed to reduce hypertension. If you frequently eat restaurant food or fast food you'll need to stop and make that a rare thing instead, as well as no longer eating prepacked foods like canned soups or microwave meals. It's very rare that they're low sodium.

From what I've read sodium is only an issue if your kidneys are not functioning properly

Sodium does not affect the healthy. You just pee it out.

Sodium is a vasoconstrictor, and people with hypertension frequently have a sensitivity to it.
