Anyone here had a drinking problem before and figured out how to stop? I don't drink during the day but I drink every day, always after work. I also tend to eat shitty food and eat too much when I drink. I just don't know how to relax after work without alcohol. I'm 26 and I usually drink 3-4 strong beers a night.

I'm not gonna pretend I have the answer because I do the same, pretty much been heavily drinking for 10 years now, but have a much easier time during the week not doing it. When ive taken breaks I try to do a clean month away and it will help at least reset your drinking volume and expectations. If you can, dont drink Mon - Thurs, so that you are giving your body a few days of a break to recover. You are 26 now and I can tell you that I am 4 years further down the road and it becomes even more of an energy sap. Best of luck bro, try to replace with vaping or weed/cbd gummies if you can, much less taxing on the brain and body.

    Had a run when i drank 8 beers 5% 0,5l (German) for almost 1 1/2 yrs and smoking like hell(still do - 40cigs a day-anon in the smoking thread).

Unironically stopped drinking when i dated my ex and she asked me if we could see eachother next time i was sober. That text killed me inside. "How would you talk to her off of alc? How would you even function?" Those thoughts and the possibility to finally get a longterm relationship again and maybe getting your shit together - raising children, buying a house and shit - made me reduce my drinking to only when going out to just not drinking at all after a few months. Now i occasionally drink again -sometimes heavily- but only when i'm out with the boys

Just picture the future you could have anon - i believe in you.

Quit while you’re ahead. You’re still in a position to quit with out any withdrawals beyond the itch to drink. I was at your point in my mid 20s and now at 33 I can kill 6-8 pints of regular beer or a pint of vodka/gin in a night easily. I keep telling myself I’m gonna quit but I still haven’t. Put it down because if you keep doing this by 30 you’ll become a complete loser that no one will want anything to do with especially chicks

Not trying to rag on you, just more for the OP.
I was at this stage two years ago, and I'm fricking glad to be out the other side. Withdrawals sucked and make it harder to get away. I screwed up a few times. My minds so much better without it

I switched to wine. I get sick of drinking it so I have maybe a glass every night now. You have to tapper off. Also drinking tea helps.

You need enough things to do that require you to be sober. Sunday-Thursday I can stay sober no problem but I struggle to resist even a small bottle of liquor on Friday and/or Saturday do to a lack of shit

I've managed to cut daily drinking down to once or twice a week. There is a lot of things I neglected to do because I was drunk, a lot of the time I just do that shit.

What happens if you do normal home things without alcohol? Just chill at home, watch tv, play videogames, cook food, etc.

Workout to make you fall asleep
I was getting blacked out 4-6 days a week for about half a year and I finally stopped this summer. By day 5 I felt amazing. After a month without a drink I went out again and was noticeably thrown off by 3-4 beers compared to my usual 6-8 to feel anything
Do it, it’s so good for you your body should naturally want to do it

Telling myself and others that "I don't drink" so that they will generally not offer you one, or if they see you with a drink they'll ask "why are you drinking?" and it kinda feels bad being caught out like that. Convincing yourself that its not 'you' to drink.
Also not having alcohol in the house helped.
I was able to go cold turkey for months after 2 years of drinking everyday, even at work, and now I can have a couple when I'm out to dinner with friends or family and its not a big deal and I dont feel the urge to have more, cause I've become the kind of person that doesnt do that.

I didn't quit but I cut hard I moved alone and was drinking 3-5 beers every other day and also go out with friends to drink ,I just stopped buying beer also after I stopped I dropped like 2 kilos and I saw it now I'm sticking to it because I want to be cut after long time of drinking and eating garbage... Maybe some one could help me with one question, how do I handle life now?I mean my feeling taking over me everything I suppressed with drinking coming up I feel like I'm trapped inside my head , before it was like someone dumped me I'll just drink until my feelings disappear now I actually need to handle it for real and it's driving me crazy

I drank heavily from 25 until I was 46. I am happy to share with you how I stopped, it was easy. Reply to this post and I will tell you if you wish.

I feel like you're being to vague to really answer, whats your problem?

If your only issue is that you don't know how to relax without alcohol, you need to go without and see what works. Continuing to drink is only reinforcing to yourself that alcohol is the way to relax. On top of that, its likely your current normal, your body expects it, and is stressed because you're drinking.

Start with trying to go without for a month. Do you lift? Do you do any cardio? Sports? Try picking something up. Find a hobby you enjoy. Meet up with a friend and talk.

Beyond that, is your workload realistic?

Cut down one beer a night, gradually. Then cut down from there to every other night. Then like twice a week. Then only on weekends. If you wanna go further, cut down to only special circumstances.

Quitting outright I found impossible. Slowly reducing intake then limiting it to a handful of times a year works way better for me. But if I binge drink on those days it makes me relapse or almost relapse every time. Same thing I did to cut out nicotine and recreational drugs.

I NEVER drank when living with family. Whenever I came home to my loving family it was impossible. I went 9 months without a single drop but as soon as I left I was back on the binge. I am drunk right now and want to stop. Do with this information as you will.

Alcohol legally cannot enter your body without consent.

I drank from 16 to 22, at least a little a day, but on the weekends until I could barely walk. Like the others have said, I was at a stage where it was bad and I was drinking to mask other problems, but it was reversible without much other than urge withdrawals. You could remove all of it from your house and make a sincere devotion to not buying or looking at it. I know that seems stupid, but really it is simply what you have to do. You may gain some weight. I gained like 40lbs as my emotional issues shifted from alcohol to food. Is the problem really fixed? No. But food is a slower death, so you have more time to fix the issue.

Search for "the sinclair method". One 50mg naltrexone one hour before drinking. You will literally get bored of driinking.

When you ask the doc for the prescription, do not mention the sinclair method, say you heard it helps with "cravings." No doc is going to tell you do take a pill then drink.

First time you take naltrexone, spilt the pill, take the pieces one hour apart, or you might go through full opiate withdrawal. Not really a good time.
