Yes I only use once a week and since then I've had multiple people compliment my hair. Everyone responds differently though I've heard many people say their hair gets very oily when they stop over been lucky that mine doesn't get too oily just a little.

      >How do you disinfect your hair
A cat can clean itself by licking away debris and dirt. This prevents the hair from becoming matted (which will happen when it can't clean certain parts of its body, due to age for example). It doesn't need fricking chemicals to "disinfect" anything. As long as its immune system is on point the micro-flora in the fur remains under control. I would say the human equivalent to a cat's tongue is a brush or a comb.
Also, hair is the n°1 place for your pheromones to develop and make your smell attractive to girls. But I understand your concern, and I think there's probably some truth to it, especially if your immune system is defective. I, too, wouldn't want to walk around with the body odour of a dozen unwashed BJJ savages clinging to my hair.

    Personal experience only here:
Stopped using shampoo with 16 due to exceptionally oily hair. Until I was 21~ I was complimented for my 10/10 hair.
Didn't even have to comb it. Just run my fingers through two or three times and done.

Over time I developed dandruff, mostly due to hormonal issues (got fat and stressed out) and I switched to a relatively expensive zinc shampoo about 2 years back. Ever since then my hair is about 9/10.

The transitional period to no-shampoo sucks. At least if you do it properly. Don't fall the baking soda or lemon juice memes, baking soda is much, much more agressive than any commercially available shampoo. But once you've gotten used to no-shampoo, it's pretty based.

I cut my hear very short relatively spontaneously, and ever more so decided to use this as a shampoo cleanse, I used a lot of shampoo and cleaned very thoroughly.
Then I realized it'd be the perfect opportunity to try no shampoo and see how quickly my hair gets unpleasantly greasy by only using water (scrubbing long and under hot water). And after almost a year now, that never came.
It is a little more greasy than 'right out of the shower dry', but feels very fluffy and and comfortable, and still very dry. Wet it feels a little weird at first.
But I think it's most healthy that way, and it wont get worse because I keep my hear rather short.

Yeah I unironically use no shampoo, ever. Only time it gets shampoo is if I go get a haircut and the lady washes it, because they use the high quality stuff that doesn't damage hair. I think it's made my hair look a bit better and thin a bit slower but who knows. Definitely used to look greasier if I hadn't showered, can do evening showers and have it be ok in the morning now.

  28. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

For context, I have long hair.
Before I got into regular exercise, I only had to shampoo maybe once a week, outside of that I'd just not get my hair wet during a shower. I find that if I get my hair wet but don't shampoo, it feels really weird once it dries. I really don't like the feeling, so ever since getting into exercise and needing to rinse sweat out of my hair more regularly, I just shampoo every time, at least a tiny amount.
Does anyone else have this experience? idk how to describe it. I don't remember it looking terrible, just being unpleasant to the touch and not feeling like it was falling/flowing right.

Yeah I really wanted to do the nopoo thing because my scalp is really sensitive and I thought it would help but every time I try it my hair and scalp just felt gross and after a couple days I couldn't stand it anymore. I've tried going /nopoo/ but my hair and scalp get so oily after even one day of no washing, let alone multiple days. Do I just have to power through it? When will the greasiness go away? I hate the feeling of having oily hair, feels so disgusting and I always just give up and go back to shampooing after no more than 48 hours

      Anonymous

Yeah, pretty much. Theory goes that your scalp produces excessive oil to compensate for the fact that shampoo is always washing it away. If you just let it be greasy for a while, your scalp should essentially start to choke on its own oil and learn to ease up a little.
But it can take a good while to adjust, I'm talking like a month or so of being a grease monster, so it's a real commitment. If you have short hair, I'd suggest just doing it over winter and always be wearing a beanie. Even when people can't commit to full no-poo, they'll often find a failed attempt will at least reduce the amount of days it takes for their scalp to go full deep fryer on them.

        Anonymous

What if you cut your hair short and then don't use shampoo, even if your scalp produces excessive oil it won't be that bad since it won't be retained as much compared to having longer hair that gets all oily?

I don't think so, shampoo isn't really expensive and bathing is one of life's simple pleasures I relish. I did no shampoo in my 20's and just used a couple shakes of unscented talcum powder if I ever got too greasy. It works for your whole body but it's just a solvent vs a desiccant. I can't say it made a huge difference besides giving me bigger hair like I could make my hair look like robert smith without hairspray and it would stay like that for hours.

I tried full nopoo, but I have absolutely fricked dry skin (and not something that is caused by diet, in not an amerifat, my diet is fine) and it rally started playing up and just got worse and worse. People who say it will just sort itself are the sort of people who don't have to use moisturiser after showering and think everyone else is the same

Now I shampoo my hair with a homemade bar probably once a month, rinse with water after I exercise and use diluted apple cider vinegar in between if I need it. My hair is still a bit frizzy (it's past shoulder length long), so I'm still trying different conditioners out, but it is far better than it was. That said, if I had short hair it would be far easier, as problems show up much more easily in longer hair

This is all Facebook mom science. Your scalp doesn't produce more oil if you wash it frequently. There's one active ingredient in certain strong anti-dandruff shampoos that can increase sebum production, that's it. It's also not good to let the grease and dirt accumulate. In fact, all the things people claim no poo improves are actually getting worse the greasier and dirtier you let your scalp get. And lastly, no one ever mentions odor. I wash my hair because it gets stinky and you should do, too.

It literally worked for me. Trying it out for yourself requires no effort and costs nothing.
You hair won't stink unless you surround yourself with smells that stick; like curry or cigarette. Dirt and sweat can be washed out with cold water.
Nopoo serves to not wash away oils that your hair and skin need in order to not dry out.
