App for routines + tracking

We made an app that combines popular routines (5/3/1 variations like BBB, nSuns, PPL etc) and tracking.

It's currently the only app where you can create routines with set weights using RPE, 1RM and TM percentages. As well as progressions, overload, deload etc.

It's currently free, and if you join now you'll get a free lifetime membership. For others, we might add freemium later, or maybe ads, still undecided on this.

We went live in the beginning of summer and so far have almost 2k users. If interested, check it out. If not, sorry for spamming.

You can create your own as well of course. Fitnotes is more for passive logging. It is basically a glorified notepad. Hardy is for creating routines with the progression formulas included, it is for creating and tracking modern dynamic "smart routines". It tells you how much to lift, based on the routine you've created, rather than you simply writing down how much you lifted.

      Frick off shill

You don't need anything more than fitnotes. Its free and you aren't restricted to reddit routines.

I think going with no routine is the worst, it's very cringe, like you're not willing to put in any effort. On the other hand it could be based because you're doing it for fun and don't want to put in any effort. Anyway..

You can pick an existing one from home screen, if any suit you. On desktop you can make a copy of an existing routine and edit that as well. If you want to create from scratch you can start with blank just to test things out.

If your shit app has ads I will uninstall.
If you charge monthly I will uninstall.
Make a good fricking app and charge yearly for cool features and darkmode

          Fair.

Have you ever heard of Google sheets?

        Anonymous

Check the main image, you'll see the Google sheets routine in the image wrapped around the phone.

Google sheets allows formulas for dynamic weights but progressions are often hardcoded or lacking and deloads are often just plaintext rules, not part of the formulas. Plus, there's no history or TM changes, etc.

Weight training is currently in the same stage in technological advancement as listening to music was when we were downloading mp3 files and sharing playlists for Winamp. Then came Spotify and suddenly it was possible to open any song, play it, share it with a link and have other people listen to the playlist etc.

Hardy does the same to weight training routines and Spotify did to music. Pick a routine or create one (like a music playlist), send it to a friend who can immediately open it and start tracking with it using their own 1RM-s figures (like a song or playlist), etc.

managing sets in the UI sucks ass when making programs, the menu button is too far to the right
sets during workouts are annoying with timers, since you can't see reps from the previous set
there aren't any metrics/anything about muscle groups used
cool that you're showing the roadmap on your website

      Anonymous

Oh this is good feedback, thank you! Yep, managing sets in the app routine editor sucks, I agree. You can create routines on the desktop website too though, it is much easier on a larger screen. We'll try to improve the app UI though.

Seeing previous sets is something we just thought about last week too. We'll probably try to implement it somehow.

No metrics about muscle groups yet, nope. We will probably add at some point, but it hasn't been a priority so far.

If anything else pops to mind, send us a message. I appreciate the honesty.

People don't create a new routine in the gym that often, they usually already have a routine planned when going. But we will improve the UX for sure.

Ok, so I've been running a diy routine based off of this progression scheme:
      https://swoleateveryheight.blogspot.com/2016/11/volume-dependent-intensity-progression.html?m=1
In your app I can make every set an AMRAP to account for the volume range, but it keeps wanting me to adjust overload based on TM or 1RM and I just want a simple +2.5kg to working weight. Also how would I run the program in cycles? Right now if I drop out of the rep range I add a set or lower the targets if I want to keep going, then when I stall out, I take a deload week find a new, higher starting rep max, and go again. Any way to do that here?
Good shit either way OP, ty for sharing

        > your app I can make every set an AMRAP to account for the volume range, but it keeps wanting me to adjust overload based on TM or 1RM and I just want a simple +2.5kg to working weight.

There's two ways to add progressions. You can do it in when making set AMRAP, and adding a progression overload tied to that. Or secondly you can add a simple overload at the same place where you add deload. If you add a TM% set, you can add overload "after 1 successful session, increase TM by 2.5kg". This still changes the TM though. Or if you mean that you just wish to add 2.5kg to the weight without using any TM and 1RM percentages for intensity, then we are currently working on updating the sets and might add this option as well.

        > Also how would I run the program in cycles?

More complex periodization is something we'll be adding soon. Right now there isn't any proper cycling.

        > Good shit either way OP, ty for sharing

        Cheers!

We've been working on hardy.app for 2 years during evenings and weekends. It's me and one other developer. I think if you skip some of the features and do it full time you could set something up with a few months probably? Depends if you want to just log the weights you lifted or do you want it to do something extra. If it's just for passive logging then a weekend project really.

But yea the main motivation was to be able to create routines like:

    @7 RPE, 3 x 5
    80% of TM, 3 x 8
    90% of 1RM, 1 x 5+
    - If more than 5, add 5km to TM next session.
    - If unsuccessful, decrease TM 10% next session.
    etc.

And have the app understand these calculations and rules.

If anybody has any other questions let me know.

We have 3 ideas, but haven't decided anything yet.
      1. Keep it free for all and take a cut from private trainers if they start selling their routines through our app. The benefit for the PT-s would be that they can see all stats of their clients immediately and can send them personalised routines that the client can just start using on the same app etc. This would be the best option for us but it is also the longest plan. It would take years.

      2. Option two is to hide some features behind a premium membership. But honestly we don't want to add some bullshit features just to put them behind a premium payment option. Also monthly payments are a bit annoying to people.

      3. Option three would be to add ads, and premium would simply remove the ads. We probably wouldn't earn much from ads, but it could make people get the premium to avoid the annoying ads. Spotify uses the same concept so maybe it's fine.

But yea so far it's free. And anybody who joins up before we make the change would keep their lifetime free membership for sure. We wouldn't annoy the current users.

for option 1 allowing coaches to sell programs through the app could be useful, I've installed it (enjoy the bitcoin mining) once my current training cycles over I'll probably try it but for what use it is the things keeping me to strengthlog would be
        >data export
        >add new exercises
        >set goals
        >fancy graphs
good luck with the project though and it seems like it could do well

Will be added soon. As for email, we don't have a marketing email list. As developers we hate spam ourselves, so we decided not to create one. Email is used only for user signup so we would have something to tie the info to. If anybody wants to keep an eye on our news they can do it on our subreddit or Instagram, but no email will be sent.

Is it possible to work offline?
FitNotes can work on your phone locally, no log in needed.
Having same info shared on laptop/phone is convenient, but only as a bonus feature (which can be included in premium), not as requirement.

Honestly, your app interests me, but only assuming that using it as workout tracker is just as easy as FitNotes.
Programming something like "pick any of these exercises for 3x10 after the bench", scheduling alternating exercises without adding every possible combination (currently I program them as separate days and pick ones I want), ability to separate sets of the same exersice with different progression (gzcl has same lifts as primary and secondary on different days), do a deload/increase on the next workout with a press of the button, ect.

The thing is - an advanced app is like a coffee machine with 100500 functions - they are useless if the coffee tastes shitty.

Can I add custom routines or do I have to pick one of those?
