I've always heard that bodybuilders train for hypertrophy and show muscles and are weak compared to how they look. Is that really true? I'm struggling to believe guys built like this couldn't throw serious weight around.

It's just cope anon, of course they are strong. Men in 4chn are just too bitter.
They are still far stronger than non-lifters, they're just weaker than powerlifters in their weight class
It’s a myth
Bodybuilders are weak when they appear on stage because they’re dehydrated and starving
They’re not weak during the regular season
theyre stron, but nothing crazy. the thong to remember is they aren't as big as they look
We're all Manlets next to Brian Shaw, you too homosexual
there is being mogged, then there is being turned into a kindergartener like in pic
literally Shaq looks like a kindergartener next to big bad (nicest man on earth) Brian Shaw
shaq is 4 inches taller than him
Idk what to tell you man everyone is SMALLER than Brian
that was before he met Brian
not all of us
If you're 6'8 I guarantee you're a fricking dyel lanklet lel
Is this supposed to help you, he's mogging the frick out of your fat ass and he's standing diagonal to the camera lmao
if you think that's remotely the same degree of mogging as the Olympia pic then you're moronic
Brian Shaw mogs EVERYONE
He doesnt mog valuev.
>taller and leaner
I was going to say the same thing he just googled a pic of a random fat guy next to Brian but I been trying to be like a nicer person its Christmas and all
Cope, it looks like a really big guy next to a big guy
The other photo looks like Dorothy in Munchkinland
Damn. What a cope.
What's your height? You hold up pretty well next to him, makes me wonder how I'd do as a IST 6'7" guy
only 6'4" believe it or not
good morning sirs
I think Arnold bribes people to set shit up like this to embarrass them because he hates modern bodybuilding.
even the bigass medals are designed to emphasize the fact that they are manlets
This is the 212lbs division where the guys are like 5'4".
It depends on how they train. Most today are working 2 hours / 6 days per week, doing 4-5 sets of 15-20+ reps per movement and lifting puny weights. Dorian Yates, by contrast, was lifting 200kgx8 for rows at his peak and his strength impressed the likes of Bill Kazmaier.
>Most today are working 2 hours / 6 days per week, doing 4-5 sets of 15-20+ reps per movement and lifting puny weights.
They're doing ridiculous weights even at those reps.
Here's Jay Cutler, who's known for training conservatively, incline benching 405 for 14 reps
Depends on the angle? They're weak compared to other strength athletes like powershittiers and weightBlack folk, they dont have the control and endurance of gymnasts or memesthenics, but they still outlift 99.9% of human population.
They usually squat less than elite powerlifters, which is still more than you will ever lift.
No. An IFBB pro owned my old gym and he recently did a youtube vid where he benches 315 x15 while having done no flat bench in ages.
No, they're not really weak. If they peaked most Olympia caliber bodybuilders would be in the elite tier of Wilks scores
They are way less strong than someone spending a equivalent amount of time (and drugs) training for strength would be
Doubt
Peaking isn’t enough, they’d actually have to train in low rep ranges and build their neural drive enough to compete against elite powerlifters. They have the muscle necessary to do it, but they still have to train strength to reach 100% of their strength potential.
The other way around also holds. Why not test a 20rm instead of a 1rm and see who wins?
Or even better a 30 or 40 rm and see lactate threshholds from these athletes.
It is physically impossible to inject yourself with a wienertail of anabolic drugs and lift weights for hours every day and not be strong. All of the talk about how you need to do the peepeepoopoo special scientific min/maxed strength routine or you might as well be blowing air into your arms like balloons is bullshit. A mildly successful bodybuilder will still rep an average gymcel's max as part of his warmup.
Given that strength is largely dependent on force production, it's physiologically impossible to have the amount of muscle that an IFBB Men's Open Pro has and not be extremely physically strong. Watch any training video with a bodybuilder who competed at the last Mr Olympia; they might not be doing conventional squats, bench or deads, but they'll be doing some variation of them, and they'll be strong as frick on them. E.g. Iain Valliere and Hunter Labrada routinely do Romanian deadlifts with like 6-7 plates and hack squats with the whole machine filled with plates, Ramy does incline DB press with 170lbs for sets of 10, James Hollingshead squats about 800lbs etc.
Get Blahapilled on bodybuilding.
They weak, rupture-prone ligaments and tendons, b/c the gear strengthens muscle but not connective tissue, and even weakens it.
They train for hypertrophy, not strength.
They use copious site enhancement, including synthol, or even silicone.
>They use copious site enhancement, including synthol, or even silicone.
Basically their muscle isn't even real:
Rich Piana is probably the best example.
Normies thought he had massive biceps, triceps, delts, etc.
Turns out it was just tons of silicone.
Pro bodybuilders don't use silicone, but synthol is essentially the norm.
They're like women getting lip injections.
Blaha literally said in one of his recent videos: "If you gave me Kai Greene, I could coach him to elite powerlifter strength in a few months".
Leaving aside Blaha's delusions about his coaching ability, clearly even he acknowledged that an enormous amount of muscle mass is strongly correlated with strength. They might need to train the movement pattern to develop the skill needed for a squat/bench/deadlift if they haven't been routinely training it, but once that is nailed down, they will be capable of moving enormous amounts of weight.
Really? Which one?
It’s cope, strength is at least 85% muscle size. The only time bodybuilders are weak is when they are contest conditions or just so big that it affects leverages aside from that they are strong just not world class powerlifter strong(probably like state or national).
Just use cocaine
This guys arms look like shit, his triceps are melted dont pop, no seperation in arm muscles and arm to delt joint, just striated pecs with garbage wornout body parts
Literally the best bodybuilders are the strongest, but not just in the big 3, just in general they are stronger in every single movement from compounds to isolations.
