    Deadlifts aren't good for anything

a deadlift should always be mainly legs, because it's a hip and knee movement. often, when a deadlift is done wrong, or when it's just heavy as frick, people will feel it in their backs and go "the deadlift is a back exercise" while it's glutes and hamstrings.
always look for the moving part in an exercise to see what exactly you're training

Ty for the detailed answer anon, I'll do more reps with less weight for volume

Deadlifts build a strong thick back if you do them with enough volume; most people don't.

They develop the spinal erectors, upper traps, and core muscles, the rest is ass, legs, and forearms.
Rows and pullups are much more effective for back development.
