Sometimes you want the convenience of having a home gym, other times you want to see the gym bros and tight assed bawds and use machines you can’t afford/fit in your home gym.

I can go to the gym but it costs me money and time I would rather not pay.
The cost of me walking outside or using my interior gym is free. I can buy equipment I like, keep it running how I like, and enjoy it.

Maybe if I had a close hardcore gym to go to, but somehow the commercial gyms have oly bars with the worst knurling ever and it triggers me.
Average gym around here is 60-100+ a month.

I have both. If I'm busy and dont want to go to the gym but still want to do something at home I can. If the weather is bad, i can work out at home. Unless you are poor theres really no reason not to have a home gym. You can make a really good home set up for less than 1k and use it forever

After going overboard and setting up my home gym I now know I could do decent with just a door pull-up bar, bench, and dumbbells or a barbell.

How much space do you really need for a home gym tho? This is what I started with, ended up replacing the rack with a squat rack and safeties.

Nah. There are a lot of 20 somethings whose lives are show shallow that they think the only way to build character and a personality is to spend all your earnings and have no savings.
This doesn't just apply to fitness but fashion, technology .etc
If you don't have the latest appleBlack person phone or follow some billionaire's daughter on instafanny, then you're not cool or can't possibly be integrated into modern living.

I find said people, such as OP, extremely sad. You're too scared to do anything by yourself so you simply conform and pray that you remain part of the herd of zero-savings zero-personality losers.

    home gym is around $300
pays for itself after 1 year in gym fees

some people drive 30-40 minutes just to go gym and back.
home gym is 0 commute. anyone who drives to work can see the benefit here.

you never have to wait for someone to free up equipment or deal with idiots of the world
only con is no spotter but if you have friends, you can invite them over to work out.

      >home gym is around $300
No one is buying an Olympic bar and PU-coated plates for $300. A new bar alone costs $300. You might find a low-end second-hand bar for $100. The only part of my home suitable for lifting, the basement, does not have a tall enough ceiling to accommodate a full-sized rack and pull-up bar, and it's also too low for overhead pressing and C&J.

        Anonymous

sounds like youre making some crazy excuses.
nobody is forcing you to buy a power rack that doesn't fit or a $300 plates or $300 bar (lmao)
go on fb marketplace you can likely find everything you want for free (given enough time) or steeply discounted.

        Anonymous

You could just get a used bar+weights for 200 or 300.
That's what you do if you are a poorgay. Shit then you do what I did and go standard weights.
Optimally you would find one of those shorter power racks+adjustable bench for seated OHP.
        Half racks work okay.

My squat rack is probably worth.... 50USD on used market and it can support 400lbs. Not much but if you do harder variants you need less weights.
If your used market is fricked..... it's over

How low is your ceiling in the basement bro??

About 200-220cm. Dunno. Low enough that I can reach it with my finger tips with my arms outstretched above my head, and low enough that the bar loaded with full-sized plates will crash into it when fully extended over my head.

sounds like youre making some crazy excuses.

No shit, that's why I have a cheap 33mm bar with threaded ends and cast iron plates. They're still crap compared to Olympic standard equipment.
Nothing is steeply discounted any more. The last time I bought two 20kg plates was on FB marketplace and they were a bargain compared to everything else on offer; still cost me $100, if I remember correctly.

Maybe but in my personal experience i bought mine during the pandemic. A since gyms in my country asked for vaccination for almost a year after restrictions were lifted, i just decided to stick with it. The only problem is that i don't have machines or other stuff, but at least i can get a good workout with barbell and dumbells. I also have a bench and a powerack.

You fricking wigger, you've put the nuts on the wrong way round. You should be shot. Why do you think there's a rubber o-ring on that side of the nut, huh? It's so it creates friction when it touches the plate.
I'm filled with seething, uncontrollable rage for wrong-way-round-nutgays.

        Anonymous

My friend, i very much resent being called a "wigger", seen as how i dislike both rap and black "people".

Now as to the question of the nuts. The reason i have them on this way is because I often change the weight on the dumbbell. Once fastened to the dumbbell the o-ring has a tendency to stick to the plate and fall to the floor once the nut is removed. I do not very much fancy having to fiddle with the o-ring every time i change the plates, preferring instead to verify the tightness of the nut before each set.
I have successfully followed this approach for over 2 years without incident, so i can safely say that i in fact do not fasten the nuts the "wrong" way around, as you claim.

Having settled that, kindly direct your uncontrollable rage towards actual Black folk.

OP seems to forget that a mere 3 years ago the biggest psyop campaign ever fathomed by humanity was laid before our eyes, and we had to choose between:

Sometimes. I'm pretty social and go out a lot, but I prefer to improve myself in a solitary space so I can take the results back out into the world. I wouldn't go to a gym or a library to meet people because it would distract me from the task of improving myself. I wouldn't drink at home because I'm not cultivating relationships and wouldn't have social pressure to keep my drinking in moderation.

The only functional gym around me is an über-homosexual offshoot of LA Fitness where everyone there is more concerned about making people think they lift than actually lifting. I fricking hate it. Having a home gym where I don't have to wait for all the gays at the squat rack to put on their belts and Nike blazers to squat 185 sounds like paradise.
