the catch is they taste like shit and are filling, meaning you cant eat a lot of them. rice can be chowed down more effeciently. if you're a starving farmer though, oats are good.

They take a while but are incredibly simple to prepare, boil then soak for a while or just soak overnight

        >The only catch is they take longer to prepare than the others.
        Are you a dunce?
Oats - bring water to a boil. Simmer 5 minutes.
Rice - 20 minutes in rice cooker, or simmer for 40

Honestly the only problem is rice can be eaten a few days later so is better side for meal prep and also you can just add so many things like hot sauce or soi sauce to rice but for oats it's just cinnamon.
Wouldn't it be crazy if someone posted other stuff too add to oats haha?

I eat make myself a bowl of oats every morning. My goto recipe is:
          50g oats
          10g chia seeds
          Some cinnamon or 10g cocoa
Chop half a banana (full banana just overwhelms everything...)
          Teaspoon of peanut butter
          Teaspoon of honey

Experimenting with random berries to add to the bowl. Strawberries are OK.

This is almost exactly what I do. I leave it in the fridge overnight instead of simmering them, I like this combo cold and I have a terrible habit of running late in the morning

          https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/british-journal-of-nutrition/article/impact-of-antinutritional-factors-in-food-proteins-on-the-digestibility-of-protein-and-the-bioavailability-of-amino-acids-and-on-protein-quality/052B66B8F1BA8DBBCEE94E3607A63402
          >Dietary antinutritional factors have been reported to adversely affect the digestibility of protein, bioavailability of amino acids and protein quality of foods.
          >Examples of naturally occurring antinutritional factors include glucosinolates in mustard and canola protein products, trypsin inhibitors and haemagglutinins in legumes, tannins in legumes and cereals, gossypol in cottonseed protein products, and uricogenic nucleobases in yeast protein products.
          >While tannins protect the grains against insects, birds and fungal attacks, this agronomic character is accompanied with reduced nutritional quality.
          >It is well known that tannins are potential protein precipitants and they reduce protein and amino acid digestibility in animals fed tannin-containing cereals such as sorghum, and grain legumes such as field beans and fababean.
          >It is believed that under optimal conditions, sorghum tannin is capable of binding and precipitating at least 12 times its own weight of protein

The trick is not cooking it in milk, it wont be smooth because oats cant absorb that much water from milk. Cook them in water together with dessicated coconut for 3 min and at the end add honey and milk, mix them in, cook for a min more and done. I usually put some ginger-orange marmalade on top. Can wolf down 100g of oats-50g dried coconut-50g honey and splash of milk in under 5 min. Great bulking food and tasty. I wasnt able to eat even 50g when i cooked it in milk or just soaked them, pure shit that way, chewy and just bleh.

Oats, buckwheat, rye and lentils. Get unprocessed kinds and cook them yourself. Learn to bake bread, portion and freeze. If you layer them inbetween sheets of cooking paper you can extract a certain amount of slices from your freezer and toast them.

convenient, anti-inflammatory and rich in fiber. Make sure to balance this carb rich food with fatty and protein rich spreads instead of jams, deli meats and other no nos.

on another note, have you tried adding buckwheat to soups and salads? its fricking great ill tell ya. Norwegian tradition

Any white rice will do. You just want to avoid brown rice because it has the husk of the plant which means it has more arsenic and other things you generally want to avoid. Also your carb intake should generally depend on how active you are. There's no need to eat the same amount of rice on days where you're lifting a lot versus days where you're taking time off because of work or whatever.

That's not true, my ancestors thrived on corn. I'm not saying that it's on the same level as meat or dairy, but it deserves better than to be placed with oat and wheat, because at least corn isn't outright poisonous.

Your ancestors absolutely did not thrive on corn. I'm assuming they were Mesoamericans. When Mesoamericans switched from hunting to agriculture (i.e. when they ate less animals and more corn), they instantly lost 3 inches in height, had weaker skeletons, more cavities, and more scars on their bones.

That's true for any plant-based diet, not just corn. Again, I'm not saying corn is as good as animal products, I'm just saying it doesn't deserve to be F tier.

              Anonymous

I don't know what you don't know or how what I'm saying is unclear. Let me be as specific as possible because you seem confused.

I am making these following claims.
              1. Grains, seeds and processed sugars are not satiating and are not nutritious.
              2. Fruit and dairy are satiating and nutritious and would be much better breakfast than a goyslop meal of peanut butter with sugared oatmeal.

Compare a goyslop meal of oatmeal, sugar, and peanut butter versus a meal of whole yogurt, 1 banana and 3 eggs. Which meal do you think is more nutritious? Which meal has a better calorie:satiation ratio? Which meal is goyslop and which is human food?

I don't even know what "primal diet" means but to me this seems extremely obvious, but then again I used to eat oatmeal and peanut butter, too.

                Anonymous

Personally I find oats extremely satiating, I don't feel like eating for like 4 hours afterwards. I'm not a dietician and don't know the numbers on your alternative breakfast, except that my guess would be that it's way higher in fat and protein and doesn't sound as satiating tbh. I like having a heavy carb meal in the morning, works best for me. I track my nutrients in chronometer and I'm never deficient.

You must live in the suburbs and you must never have traveled before.

I just meant alternative to mine, not "alternative" as in bizarre. I've travelled plenty, thank you. I know Europeans eat cold cuts for breakfast. It's not my thing.

I would rather be weird than closed-minded and arrogant. I'm lol'ing at you starting the conversation with "I think you're a weird primal guy" and then calling my extremely normal food suggestions "alternative" and then saying you meant it in an ESL sense like you didn't grow up speaking English your whole life in the suburbs with no dad.

                Try a little harder.

Alright m8, explain to me how my usage of "alternative" was ESL. I called you a weird primal guy because you claimed that I needed to be some kind of hindgut gorilla or ruminant to eat cooked oats. I mistook you for a primal diet guy, who say similar things. Now you are accusing me of not having a dad because I maintain that I'm happy with my oatmeal breakfast. Pretty weird behavior, I think I was right to call you that.

I'm "accusing you" of being an annoying, arrogant person who lives in the suburbs with their mother (only). No one said you "need to be a gorilla to eat cooked oats." No one is accusing you of not having a dad because you're "happy with your oatmeal breakfast." You are an extremely disingenuous and rude person.

"Alternative" has been used as a pejorative for the past 3 generations. You know that. I know that. You are using a literal dictionary definition because you are a bundle of sticks.

I don't know what your confusion is. Maybe you're only used to hearing the word alternative used to describe rock stations and girls who wear a lot of mascara, but I didn't use it in any unconventional way. I find it funny that you're accusing me of being arrogant when you think you can tell, of all things, my living situation and whether or not I know my dad based on a discussion about oatmeal. I don't know anything about you except that I think you're posting weird shit.

Oh, no wonder you don't know "alternative" is a pejorative, especially in the way you used it. You literally are just too young. Well when you become older than 16, you'll learn that people who grow up a certain way write a certain way.

Well I don't want to argue with a little kid anymore, it's kind of a waste of time. I ate oats when I was 16, don't worry. I also ate tons of spinach from 18–20. You'll learn, hopefully. Or maybe you won't. Probably it depends on whether I'm right about your (lack of a) dad or not. Anyway, best of luck in life. Remember you don't have to go to college, especially if you don't know what your future occupation is gonna be.

lmao. C'mon man. Right after you got done calling me arrogant and rude you are now literally talking down to me and calling me a child. Frankly, your stubborn refusal to acknowledge that I used a common word in a common way seems more childish. It's literally the first definition, meaning the most common one. I have never seen anyone read insult in the word "alternative." But you have the right idea, let's stop talking to eachother.

This has always been the case. Rice is more or less pure carb and very easy to digest. Unless you do a lot of intense exercise you probably have no business eating it.

the catch is that the b-vitamins and actually useful stuff in oats is hard to digest without soaking them in some kind of acid (yogurt), also way too much fiber to be a real staple carb. I'm sure people can adjust to it but it seems to go again the grain to have a lot of it.

Rice is almost prefect for a staple grain because there's no fiber when polished (white rice), it's easy to digest and it doesn't really have a lot of micros. Why I'd argue that's a good thing is because you're not planning around micros you're probably not getting. It can also be fertilized by migratory birds. Geese poop in the paddies when migrating, the simmers itch microbes multiply in the stagnant water. The paddies dry killing the microbes and creating a fertilizer bed for the next year. This is very useful for not having to cart fertilizers and mining biproducts around. The downside is rice is not drought resistant. Wheat is drought and pest resistant but gets infected with molds in moister climates.

migratory geese, cranes, herons, swans, ducks if these water patches are there when they migrate they're usually come back year after year with their young. You don't have to keep any of them you just have to make them feel like it's safe to stop there. You aren't just tilling a field you're manipulating an ecosystem.

Oats have the highest density of pesticide residue for very little nutrients. They're meant for horse feed and the only way to make it edible for humans is through extensive, industrial processing. None of this is ketoschizo shit this is all observable fact.

    >3/4 of randomly tested, off the shelf oats products had unsafe levels of glyphosate
    >1/3 of "organic" oats products also had unsafe levels of glyphosate
    https://www.ewg.org/news-insights/news-release/2018/10/roundup-breakfast-part-2-new-tests-weed-killer-found-all-kids

It's shilled so much as a health food by marketers. There's objectively nothing healthy about it in fact the only thing I notice vegans focus on when mentioning oats is how it has "fiber" (cellulose is not a nutrient) and that it "lowers cholesterol" which actually means it also lowers HDL which is bad. It's malnutrition.

Sick of this marketing shit being treated as healthy. No healthy nation consumes oats, they eat rice or even pasta instead. This is exclusively consumed in heart disease hotspots.
