If you have diet, rest, stress, and routine absolutely optimized (thing off-season Hollywood star) rest days are not needed. Taking them is just to compensate for the fact that most of us can't have all the details dialed in

Rest weeks are cringe and gay
If you are feeling really worn down do a deload week where you do your normal routine but at like 50-60% of your normal weight. And that is only if you’re worn down because of weeks to months of intense training to the point you’re losing strengty, not just sore from your last workouts

For standard strength sports this is absolutely correct.

But frick me, when I did selection my body was fricking destroyed. I’ve pissed myself twice as an adult. Once after hill selection and once after a 2 week exercise. Slept for 20 hours solid in my own piss after being thrashed up and down Brecon for a week.

I needed a week of rest then. Don’t care about the science. I needed it.

deload week is the week I get work around the house done that I'd be too beat to do otherwise

Be honest OP, are you actually pushing yourself hard enough to justify taking a rest week?

    Cardio weeks are legit
Get some blood vessel gains and next time lifting feels different

Definitely legit but usually if you 'need' one it's because you're not deloading properly. That being said, there are several powerlifting programs that suggest you avoid lifting in the week before your event during your 'peaking' phase. It definitely has its place

Legit, deload weeks are the actual meme you are wasting time making 0 progress
Every time I've take a rest week I come back stronger

no. If you start straining muscles or you're stalling despite sleeping and eating well, its time to slow the frick down. Tryhard Black person homosexuals will tell you just to push through, but that's how you snap shit or strain shit.
    >t. forced to take time off because I strained a hammy and it would've been better to just schedule a deload week every 4-8 weeks.

Deloads are moronic. Either exercise, or rest. Don't try to do this weird hybrid of both. Deloads just mean you get no gains AND no proper rest.

You do need it, but you don't need to do nothing. In fact, I would never ever advocate being sedentary for rest days or periods. It's just a deload period, and it can mean lifting at 50% of your typical intensity and volume. It helps your CNS reset and repair, and you will feel a hell of a lot stronger and better when you return to normal intensity.

dont take one, life always eventually gets in the way for me (and for most) so you can just have an unplanned deload or "rest week". dont waste your time
