    only really heavy power shrugs
those homosexual "controlled" shrugs with 135 are worthless
ideally your deadlift + 1pl8 to actually be doing anything worthwhile (eg. 4pl8 deadlift = 5pl8 shrugs)

What kind of bullshit is this? So I'd have to shrug with 330kg just to do anything worthwhile?

Anything that gives you a decent pump will help for hypertrophy.

go ahead and do 5x20 shrugs with 135lb for a month and report your trap growth anon

        >those homosexual "controlled" shrugs
my understanding is all “zercher” variations are supposed to activate your entire core as well, so their may be some benefit there at least

zercher shrugs are kind of dumb
yeah you have to brace for them but that'd be like doing zercher calf raises
extra ab activation but significantly less focus on the muscles you're actually trying to build with the lift

Who does this? Isn’t it supposed to be a progressive overload?

not him but this is a shit argument, snatch and atlas stones are strength metrics, while shrugs are a developmental exercise, so yes you should care about what muscles are being worked since it's a means to an end not a goal in of itself

    Not if you deadlift

Guarantee nobody on this board needs any more than controlled snatch grip shrugs with more than 3 pl8. I lift 2/3/4/5 including strict barbell rowing for 305 lb and snatch grip shrugs for 20 reps a set demolish my traps with just 275 lb

gays do the most mechanically efficient set up to rack pull 1000 to satisfy their ego instead of simply making the lift more challenging with less weight

No, do overhead presses with a focus on scapular elevation. Personally, my traps didn't blow up until I started doing calisthenics and handstands

    Gotta go heavy
I do 5x15 at 500-550 and my traps look like there is a second person growing out of me

for traps? heavy deads have always been sufficient for me.

Ive been the same way. I tried shrugs and they did nothing, but heavy pulls made mine blow up.

I enjoy doing them because I don't deadlift. Just regular bb shrugs though with a slightly wide grip
