Squats will give you quads. They may contribute to some glute growth as well, but that's heavily dependent on type of squat and anthropometry. You should incorporate some glute and hamstring work too if nice legs is the goal. And Calves, since even if you do legs shorts cover up everything and calves are the only things people will be able to see.

bodyweight squats are good, but you will have to do a lot of them, and you will probably eventually have diminishing returns in terms of size unless you add weight
romanian deadlifts are good for hamstrings/butt, but you need a barbell or dumbbells for these
alternatively, you can do leg curls if you get one of those big exercise balls. these are pretty good for hamstrings, but again you might see diminishing returns eventually if you can't add extra weight.

          ok tyvm

Are weighted deep squat holds doing anything? I do weighted pushups at home and between sets I stay in a deep squat for a few minutes. My legs feel pretty sore the next day.

are you sitting in the bottom position of the squat? I haven't heard of anyone doing that with weights. there is a position called horse stance that people do, but that is more of an upright hold with your knees around 90 degrees. isometric holds will obviously make your legs burn and they are a great test of your willpower, but I can't say how much strength you gain from doing them.

I posted the other day suggesting leg extensions and hamstring curls. If you squat and you feel it in your legs and not much in your butt, then it's good leg work. If you feel it in your butt more, it's more that. Honestly don't know what else to do at home except buy a functional trainer, the easiest way to do "everything". You could play volleyball.

are you doing these with a barbell? they're good but have perhaps become overrated in recent years
IDK what good girls/bad girls are, but keep doing them
lyeg press is usually more quad dominant, but you can mess around with your foot width and placement to see what hits your glutes more
split squats or bulgarian split squats can be great for glutes if you find the right torso position. you want to lean your upper body slightly forward. you can also do single leg lunges with your forward foot elevated on a smith machine. unilateral leg work can be really good, but it is very taxing both physically and mentally. obviously doing a set of ten, or to failure or whatever, with each leg is kinda daunting in the moment, but if you can get over this hurdle it can be really effective.
I know you said that deadlifts are scary, but you should also look in to romanian deadlifts -- you can do them with dumbbells, and you don't need to go super heavy when you're learning. they're really not that crazy. they also have a single leg variation that will help a lot.
if your gym has a 45 degree hyperextension station, this is great at the end of your workout. glutes are more of a secondary mover, but you will really feel them. you don't need to go super heavy here, slow sets of 10 - 15

I’m writing notes diligently Ty anon. When I do any kind of lunge or squat my quads r super dominant the same with squats despite a bunch of different forms so I am unsure if doing them will actually work the back of the leg because the front takes over straight away I feel the same in deadlifts I use the little dumbbells on my hips for hip thrust should I be using a bar ?

    >are squats enough to get thighs or do I need to do other workouts

Squats are not enough to get huge legs, they only target the quads and not even completely.

To build a leg workout imagine that you will divide it in two parts:

    >quads (a.k.a thighs)
    >hamstrings + glutes

    The quads you will use:

    >squats or front squats
    >bulgarian squats or lunges
    >leg extensions

    For hamstrings and glutes:

    >deadlifts
    >hip thrusts
    >leg curls

How far could I realistically expect to get with just two 25lb dumbbells?

        Anonymous

as a beginner, you can make some progress with these for a few movements
-split squats/bulgarian split squats -- these are similar movements, the latter just has your rear foot elevated on a chair seat or something. these are good for quads and glutes, and you can emphasize one or the other by adjusting the angle of your upper body. you could also put the dumbbells on your shoulders and do regular squats.
-RDLs - 50 total pounds isn't a lot, but you can practice doing them and eventually do one leg at a time
-you can try doing hip thrusts, but 50 pounds isn't a lot of weight. if you can balance both dumbbells on you then you can do one legged hip thrusts, but this might be clunky with two dumbbells -- one 50 pound dumbbell would be better, but its worth a try.
working with smaller weights doesn't mean that you can't make any progress, but you're going to want to perform your reps as slowly as possible to make up for the lack of load. especially when you're moving down with the weight, like during a squat, don't dive bomb it or rush it, try to stay very smooth and steady. don't focus on the number of reps you're doing so much as the quality of each rep, and the total time -- if you can make each set last 30 seconds or more, that is ideal. 8 smooth, controlled reps will do more for you than 13 jerky, rushed reps, and this will also put a lot less stress on your joints/ligaments etc.

Answering your question, probably not much progress. Since you can't progressive overload and those are extremely light weight your gains will be modest at best

Slow movements are better for build mass, quite the opposite. You need controlled reletitions but not overly slow.

Dude, you're talking to an untrained woman. She can absolutely make progress for several months with 25 pound dumbbells, especially if she focuses on unilateral exercises. Just getting the movement patterns down and working up to 15 quality reps per leg would constitute significant progress. Of course she'll want to work with higher weights eventually, ideally with a barbell, but remember, you're not talking to a 200 pound high school linebacker here.

so like single leg glute bridges with the dumbbell across my hips? and single leg rdl? How many sets would be a good place to start?
