the physical standards of 80% on a standard pt test, a 40 minute 5 mile and a 3 hour 12 mile ruck are not difficult for anyone who isn’t obese especially if you played sports in high school. The rest of either selection is just put up with being tired, hungry, cold/hot, and generally uncomfortable and don’t quit.

Any young man with 6 months of preparation should be able to do that baring any physical disabilities. You could probs do it in 2 if you wanted.

It's not the pt tests to worry about
It's the nomstop harrassment that gives people symptoms of Rhabdo

LIterally anyone who went to the gym for a year can pass these "hardcore" military tests. They're designed for amerimutts who consider basic level of fitness to be a superhuman feat

I heard that was a big part, that it's less about beasting recruits and more about putting them in rough situations and evaluating how well they think after days of low sleep / low food / high activity. About testing mindfulness and ability to think even when you're dead on your feet. Was that true in your experience?

Did my mandatory military service several years ago.
Was amazed how many people don't get how you navigate using a compass+map.

At the moment, I don't think so. I really dislike running and cardio in general so I'd likely fail the run and the ruck
I'm hoping to get there eventually though, I'm seriously considering enlisting in my country's military after (if?) I manage to get my bachelor's or master's

I passed the PJ (Airforce) selection test (including swim) in my early 20’s. Their test is much harder than ranger selection. Yeah it’s “harder” but it was a breeze for me because I was incredibly fit already. Almost doubled their sit-up and push-up requirement in the allocated time. Never went through with airforce though.

Not for running but I'm light enough that I would probably be fine by the end of basic
