Canines are pack hunters. A single wolf is gonna have a hard time because it only has one weapon, whereas humans have 9.

Wolves are fricking huge top predators. You might get lucky if you somehow get it's eyes or get it in a joint lock or something (wolf jiu jitsu?).

Humans are OP because we have big old brains and can make tools and when you take this relative ability into account and give the human a knife/spear/rock the odds get way more even

A human can easily hyperextend its legs like breaking a wishbone. Basically if it follows its instinct of biting and holding you down, you have free reign to grapple the shit out of it, crush its ribs, or jab its eyes. All fighting moves completely alien to it.

Exactly illustrating my point. Attack dogs are trained to bite and hold down targets, they can't kill them unless they get the neck. They're useless without a handler to follow up and detain the suspect.

I used to play with a really aggressive dog. He used to bite a lot, but not enough to rupture skin.
It's really easy to just stick your forearm into its mouth and then push/grapple/slam it however you want. And that's not even mentioning that you could just kick or punch it in the snout. In a life or death situation, you're losing an arm at most.

Any many dogs have bite forces in excess of that. Granted they are bigger but there are plenty of them. Also it doesn’t change what that guy said and the leverage of how a mouth works. If you shove something in the back of its mouth it can’t clamp down
              >It would bite your arm in half lmao

On average, European wolves weigh 38.5 kg (85 lb), North American wolves 36 kg (79 lb), and Indian and Arabian wolves 25 kg (55 lb).

Oh wow the guy who isn’t fighting back is really getting his ass kicked.

Even in your example you can see why a solo canine will struggle. Biting an arm hurts and can be very damaging but won’t kill you. Meanwhile the dog has its face and most vulnerable areas in striking range of the other arm, knees, and kicks. Plus you can grab it and control its neck, choke it, fall on it, rip the front leg out of its socket (way easier than it sounds, they can’t move laterally). Dogs aren’t solo fighters

      >Humans are OP because we have big old brains and can make tools
This is exactly why "fight X animal barehanded" arguments are dumb and miss the point. We didn't break the rules or anything. If a wolf wants to fight me, I get to bring a RPG and blast its face off, or least toss stones at it. Then we've got the army. Wolves can hunt in packs but we can seek and destroy them without even introducing our aerial superiority and nuclear weapons because we're better at organizing and inventing.
Wolves, gorillas, sharks, and bears can all suck my human dick. There's a reason why our greatest enemy is our own.

        Anonymous

The wolf is fighting without its pack. The human still has the advantage of any fighting/anatomy knowledge they have.

          Anonymous

That's my point, the wolf can have its pack.
And the human too. This actually is a long fight that took place in prehistory.
Talking about isolating one specimen of each in a mundane closed off box type of environment is not a good indication of evolutionary superiority because this would never happen in nature.
If you are talking about 1v1 cross species fighting in a sandbox, sure, average modern human is getting rekt. If anything though, the luxury that got us to this point of softness says a couple of things about our superiority over animals.

This is the fitness board, not IST. The context is whether you in particular are fit enough to beat a wolf unarmed, not which species is superior in fighting (human is of course the best on the planet).

is right. It's clearly possible if things go favorably for you, but almost every single time a wolf will frick your shit. A wolf is not a dog. Wolves are enormous and strong as frick. A weak, malnourished wolf will get it's teeth into your throat and you'll be done, no amount of grappling skill can reliably pin a wolf. Wolves are smart and fast. They will not let you get your arms around them. Even if you do, their main weapon in combat isn't even their teeth. They will headbutt the frick out of you and rip you apart while you're too concussed to see. Everyone saying "b-but they're pack hunters, they're weak alone" is a fricking moron. They hunt like that because it's easy, that does NOT mean you will beat one in a fight. It means a lone wolf might decide not to engage, but if it does you're still fricked.

        Anonymous

        >They will headbutt the frick out of you
show one video of a wolf using a headbutt. I've never heard of them doing this as an attack.
        >no amount of grappling skill can reliably pin a wolf
No one is saying pin it, just hyperextend its leg, it has far less ROM than a human or cat.

The most effective thing against a wolf would probably be to just grab the throat with your hands and hang on as hard you can. You could do that even if he gets you on the ground.

I think a wolf's mentality is going to be to nip at you and jump back and circle you though- wear you down, bleed you.. that's what would be the biggest problem because you won't be able to get ahold of him.

          >nip at you and jump back and circle you though- wear you down, bleed you.
Honestly this is a pretty shitty strategy. It works when they have a pack chasing down prey and they can latch on and chase it for miles. Any bite quick enough to not get grabbed or hit isn’t going to be strong enough to do much.

Death by 1000 cuts isn’t viable here.

            Anonymous

I disagree. A four legged animal like that- no matter if it was 150 lbs- is going to be far too agile for a person to grab ahold of easily. You ever see a dog (even a large dog) play with a poisonous snake?

And generally what I'm saying is that unless it is a show of pack dominance- a wolf is going to have a natural aversion to just out and out attacking something. And yes this makes more sense when in a pack obviously but lone wolves will do it too it's just the way they think

              Anonymous

              >is going to be far too agile for a person to grab ahold of easily.
I disagree. A dog/wolf backing up isn’t quicker than a punch or kick that’s moving. Regardless you’re missing my point. They aren’t fast enough to bite you, bite hard enough and deep enough to do damage AND back out without getting grabbed or hit. They are teeth, not knives. Grazing you causes scratches not cuts. Also just teeth puncturing causes relatively little damage. It’s the ripping and shaking that will frick you up, which means they have to stay locked on and let’s you grab them.
              >You ever see a dog (even a large dog) play with a poisonous snake?
No I haven’t. Do you have a video? Unless it’s repeatedly dodging a snake bite I don’t see how that’s relevant.
              >And generally what I'm saying is that unless it is a show of pack dominance- a wolf is going to have a natural aversion to just out and out attacking something.
Well yeah. This is a dumb hypothetical but that’s why it’s fun to talk about. Wolves don’t attack people. You have to concede that for the premise or what’s the point of even commenting?

        Anonymous

        >no amount of grappling skill can reliably pin a wolf.
Skill isn’t really needed. It’s strength and weight which exceed a wolf. Even manlet weigh more and have better leverage.
        >Wolves are smart
Irrelevant. They are still dumber than the dumbest humans. Also they have zero experience fighting a person. A person at least has an understanding of how a wolf attacks
        >and fast
Valid, but it’s not like they can jab and move. The only way to do damage is latching on which opens them up to attack.
        >They will not let you get your arms around them.
They have no say in that
        >Even if you do, their main weapon in combat isn't even their teeth
Bull fricking shit and proves you are completely full of shit. How else do canines attack?
        >They will headbutt the frick out of you
Lol. Lmao. Show me any dog or wolf head butting as an attack. Ever. Furthermore how do those logistics even work? It’s going to jump and launch itself at your head rather than bite? Great fricking plan. Head butting anywhere else is moronic because it will do more damage to itself than you. Human skulls are about 1/4” thick. Wolf skulls are no thicker.
        >and rip you apart while you're too concussed to see
        See above.

Most wolves are in the 20-40 kg range. Yes, the sanctuary ones like in your pic can go up to 100 kg but that's because they were bred by humans to be that big for show.

Yeah I was only using the male weights. Females are much easier but I wouldn’t say easy. Females have tusks too and don’t discount them. They can gore the shit out of you. I think they are more dangerous than wolves because of this and an unlucky swing can end you. A warthog could get your thigh and sever the artery where a wolf isn’t biting through your leg muscle to get to it.

Look for the boar video where it wrecks a shitbull and rips out its intestine. Someone has to have it saved. They are more dangerous than they look.

A wolf's instinct is to steal kills, run, and harass prey to exhaustion. I'll guarantee you the only time you will ever see footage of a wolf (that isn't literally rabid) actually square up and fight something is when it is some sort of pack dominance type thing against another wolf. No I haven’t but that’s irrelevant. Normal people have throughout history. That’s the point. Teeth aren’t spikes either.

Can a wolf do worse than this?
          > After enduring body slams and inordinate shaking, along with 30 bites across his back, sides and arms, Orr went partially blind, his eyes filling with blood from a deep 5” claw gash above his right ear that split open his scalp.
He was attacked twice, hiked 3 miles out, and then drove 45 minutes to the hospital.

Are you implying a wolf bite is worse than being shot? Being stabbed and slashed by knives, swords, spears, and aces? Answer that.

          >You getting brutally molested by a 120lb dog evolved over millions of years to KILL ISOLATED MAMMALS
They're evolved to gank isolated mammals 3-5 on one. You'll be hard pressed to find a wolf taking down a grown buck by itself. Stop jerking off a mildly big dog, loser. It's not remotely as dangerous as a trained lean and muscular adult male.

Bad question. I'm an American. That means being superior to all you non-Americans. I'm always carrying a firearm for self-defense according to the 2nd amendment as the founders intended so I don't have to worry about killing a wolf barehanded. It just exercise my 2nd amendment rights and the wolf is dead.

The 2nd amendment is actually about defending your rights against politicians not defending your life from wolves or criminals. It's the founding fathers saying "never give the government your guns and if they try to frick you over you have every right to blow holes into their heads" they would roll over in their graves if they knew that the meaning was being twisted so much nowadays. But yeah protect yourself from wolves too.

Easily, just push your arm deep in his throat.

Wild animals are so much tougher and stronger than their domesticated counterparts. A wolf runs 30-40 miles a day and every tendon in its body is denser and tougher than any human muscle. They also fight each other for fun & kill huge animals all the time. For scale, you dont even reach a mooses shoulder with your head. Hell think about a chimp, it is much smaller than a regular human, and a quarter the size of a large bodybuilder, but can rip the arms off any world strongest man contestant. Those frickers can curl hundreds of pounds with one arm.

Dude, for the last time, they ran a study on chimp muscle fibers. They are only pound for pound 1.5 times as strong as average human muscle fibers. That's not even accounting for unusually high fast-twitch humans you would see as competitive sprinters/weightlifters/mma fighters. Musculature is mostly the same with some tradeoffs of speed/endurance. The only real disadvantage humans have is aggression (which can be trained or realized in a life/death scenario) and teeth/jaw.

      No it can't

      >They also fight each other for fun
Not to the death. It’s not different than people sparring. They aren’t trying to injure each other.
      >kill huge animals all the time
With a PACK OF WOLVES. Not solo
      >For scale, you dont even reach a mooses shoulder with your head.
Why is this relevant? Wolves only go after something that big when there are a bunch of them and it’s old, sick, etc. And usually when it’s mobility is compromised by snow or something.
      >Hell think about a chimp, it is much smaller than a regular human, and a quarter the size of a large bodybuilder, but can rip the arms off any world strongest man contestant
Not this bullshit again. You’re posting on a device that can access nearly all the information in the world and we still end up with this. Amazing. First off, how much force does it take to rip off a man arm? Drawing and quartering was done by a team of horses and didn’t always work. Horses are far stronger than chimps. Secondly, they are only 1.5x stronger than the average man pound for pound. I’m more 1.5x times stronger than the average man. Humans also weigh more so that 1.5x advantage can go away really quickly
      >Those frickers can curl hundreds of pounds with one arm.
Really? Show me one chimp ever doing that.

bare handed vs a wolf? Chances are slim of coming out of that on top. I've been around Gray wolves and they're not just a dog, they're like twice the size of a large dog.

And that still puts them at around 100lbs. Their method of attack put their most vulnerable areas within striking distance. Canines are pack and persistence hunters. They aren’t solo fighters. They aren’t ambush predators. They aren’t made for 1 on 1 combat.

    >European wolves weigh 38.5 kg (85 lb), North American wolves 36 kg (79 lb), and Indian and Arabian wolves 25 kg (55 lb).[44] Females in any given wolf population typically weigh 2.3–4.5 kg (5–10 lb) less than males.
The average wolf weights less than a 12 year old, the massive ones you've seen pictures of are extreme outliers and their huge coat of fur makes them look way bigger than they are. If you want a match versus the 0.01% largest wolves then it would only be fair to pit them against the top 0.01 largest humans as well.

Bas Rutten, Mike Tyson, and Brock Lesnar would all frick up even a 150lbs wolf.
