    Why?

Not op, but muscular endurance is 100x more valuable in boxing. Most boxers don't touch weights. They do drilling, bagwork, bodyweight, running, and sparring.

You also don't want excess muscle. It hinders mobility and punching power.

Flat out wrong. Most elite boxers absolutely lift weights. ‘Excess muscle’ absolutely does not hinder punching power. What it does do is hinder cardio. Amazing people keep confidently spouting this shit when it hasn’t been true for decades.

People usually mean muscle building range not max strength, kek, his max squat 1 rep max would be 20lbs from that on both sides.

athletes usually don't go that heavy because most of their recoverable volume is dedicated to practicing the sport they make their living off, lifting is good for pretty much anything but you rarely want it to take up recovery for actually practicing the skill itself

IST won't get this because IST is mostly non-athletes
Me personally I'd recommend some kind of weighted squat motion, probably one or several of
    >barbell front squat <=140kg
    >double kettlebell front squat <=32kg each side
    >goblet squat
    >lunges
    >single leg squats
Never liked pistol squats when you can do single leg squats from a box and not have to deal with the other leg going out front
But at the end of the day packing muscle onto your legs is going to push you up a weight class and might make you slower, and if you've decided that's not worth it for you / your weight, don't do it and don't let IST convince you to get fat and stack plates

eating is the only thing that can push you up a weight class.

Even track and field guys are leaving the powershitting paradigm. Squats are useless in sports. Sports movements are typically fast and unilateral, the opposite of squatting.

The purpose of lifting weights is to get generally strong, not to mimic the sport. It's amazing people still don't get this.

          Anonymous

And you miss the point of sports specific training when using weights which is to "mimic" conditions or train your body to respond more strongly than without the training, lmao.

          You are moronic.

No, the point is to get strong. We just went over this. That's why athletes almost all squat heavy.

Is it normal to get a rubbery skin burn on one of your knuckles when striking a light bag with gloves on? Just asking if I'm just hitting hard as frick, lol.

      Anonymous

Assuning you are wearing boxing gloves and not those little mma gloves, did you wrap up before putting the gloves on? If not, your hand is likely moving inside the glove and getting some friction burns. Wraps are extremely important, the main reason you need to always use them is to stabilize your wrist and the small bones in the back of your hand, preventing sprains and fractures. They also pad your skin, but that's just a bonus.

I know how to throw a punch and stabilize it, just my skin breaks kinda easily, I can hit a wall without breaking my knuckles and cause a pretty loud boom but somehow with bag work I end up scarring/bruising/bleeding my fingers.

          Anonymous

I only ever got skin burns on the heavy bag without gloves because of the friction if you don't hit it head on. Never on a light bag though, so probably watch your form.
