Ashwagandha

Does this stuff work? I do a lot of exercise at the end of the day after work and it leaves me on edge, making sleeping hard. I heard it reduces cortisol produced and this lowers stress. Is it the real deal? Do you take it, and what do you think?

You've gotta get the KSM-66, but I think there are better herbs out there. Ash made me unmotivated. It was good for pumps and boners, but I think Tribulus and Fenugreek are better. I've heard good things about Tongkat Ali too

How do you suppose it would cause a lack of motivation? Did it effectively reduce cortisol?

I'm not the guy you're responding to, but I think it does reduce cortisol. I've noticed I'm calmer on it, not unmotivated, and my lifts have been going up. I've heard people say you should cycle off periodically.

Tongkat seems alright. I definitely feel an energy boost from it

I'm really cautious as to manipulating my body's chemistry because there can be side affects. The criticisms of I've heard of negative reactions to ashwagandha come from the fact it can disrupt hormone balance and result in its opposite intended effect. Maybe we wouldn't have issues since we train our muscular and cardiovascular systems to intensively so that we do have excess cortisol and no imbalance would occur. I'm just spitting out what I'm thinking in my head here
        >I've heard people say you should cycle off perdiocially.
I heard that too as it reduces tolerance and promotes homeostasis, but do you know how periodically exactly? I've read differences from 5 days on 3 off to 3 months on 1 month off. It seems like information on this supplement is inconsistent despite valid scientific studies coming out supporting its effectiveness

          >since we train our muscular and cardiovascular systems to intensively so that we do have excess cortisol
Genetics might also play a role--I tend to get stressed out/over-stimulated easily, so I think I tend toward high cortisol naturally.
          >do you know how periodically exactly?
I don't, unfortunately. I only know of anecdotal evidence, nothing scientific.

I recently purchased a Walgreens supplement that is just 600mg Ashwaganda KSM-66 and 200mg L-Theanine. I have added this to my daily stack. Today was the first day I have taken this supplement, shortly after purchasing it, just before my daily workout (Cardio today). I have noticed no major changes yet. Should I be taking this in the mornings or at night? Should I be taking this before or after a workout? Should I be concerned in any way of interactions with the rest of my custom stack?

According to this article it has seperate benefits depending on whether or not you take it in the morning or at night. https://sandiegohealth.org/should-i-take-ashwagandha-in-the-morning-or-night/

I ask then "Why not both?" If I take it in the morning with my stack, then take it at night with my Meletonin, is there an issue? It's certinally much more. Today I took it when I came home as I just bought it (with my Gingo Bilobo) and took it before a workout. This seems to be something completely antithetical to the herb.

There seem to also be side-effects to the herb, mostly related to its known benefits including low blood sugar, and seemingly a weak connection to liver damage.

It can also affect the Kidneys in a negative way

This states certain types of drugs that can interact negatively with Ashwaganda, but names no specifics. I am concerned about potential interaction with Iodine, since it states thyroid medicines in the list.

This does not speak much on L-Thinine.

Most supplements have side-effects like this. It is simply important to note them. In my further study here, it seems that taking both the L-Thimine and Ashwaganda in the morning and night are beneficial for both waking up and sleep, and I also learned that my Gingko Bilobo is the same. I think I will take them with my morning stack, then take the Ash/L-Theramine and Gingko with my Meletonin before bed from now on. Before now, I was taking the Gingko in the morning and when I got home from work for nootropic effect during my study hour. It seems taking in the morning and night, rather than morning and mid-day, would cause a great and beneficial change, especially to complement these new supplements.

Dependency, disruption of neurochemical generation. This will happen with long term use. Short term is fine, but every night is really bad.

In my experience, Ashwagandha absolutely works. I took it for quite a while (probably a couple years, almost non-stop), and it actually has had a permanent effect on me, years later. It took a few months of taking it to notice the full range of effects. For me, it drove the onions out of my body and turned me into a man. I think it has an effect on the thyroid, and I have a theory that all the estrogen-like compounds in the environment might be wreaking havoc on the thyroid, so maybe it helps cleanse and defend it, I dunno.

I try it now and then, it definitely gives me weird dreams. Outside of that it's hard to say if it does more.
