          There was literally an Aussie study where they had rugby players down shots, work out, and take muscle tissue biopsies to compare rates of protein synthesis. Alcohol does have an impact on protein synthesis but you need to be engaging in typical college frat boy style binge drinking hard liquor on training days.

            Besides this I have the anecdotal experience of alcohol fricking up my sleep, which affects my recovery and workout the next day. It's probably not as bad for someone who doesn't work out as intensively as me, but since I do two a days I can't afford any more than a beer or two before a light day. Not only that, but I noticed my fatigue compounds faster when drinking weekly or biweekly.

            Reading the study and doing the math, as a 70kg male, if i go to the gym, eat well, and have a bottle of wine for dinner it will hurt my gains. 1.5g * 70kg = 106,5g of alcohol. 750ml * 13% = 93.5g of alcohol. As you see, it doesn't really take binge drinking to lose gains to booze, someone who drinks with their meals is affecting their gains. Literally drinking poison and expecting to get big.. Once in a while np, i avoid working out a couple of days before and after i know will get hammered, because not only will it hurt gains, you will also lose progress if you break down the muscles and then interrupt their rebuilding process by drinking booze.

      It goes the other way too. If you consume protein while drinking it will interfere with the bodies ability to absorb the alcohol from your gut, thus making it harder to get drunk.

    Trying to reduce calories during drinking caused me to have a serious drinking problem. I used to drink full flavored beers with the boys or sugary wienertails on vacation.

    Then I switched to just shooting vodka. My tolerance went up immensely and in hindsight probably fricked my gains up way more. Alcoholism does run in my family but prior to lifting I didn't drink hard or heavy because I couldn't stand straight liquor or strong drinks.

      honestly hard liquor is probably the way to go for people with drinking problems. It speeds up the whole process causing you to hit rock bottom much quicker and give up booze altogether. Beer drinkers can go years, even decades wreaking havoc on their bodies before realizing the have a serious problem

      The problem lies within alcohols specific nature. If you want to quit cocaine for instance simply disconnect from your friends that do cocaine. Alcohol however is plastered everywhere all the time and will always be the same high. Its a totally different beast when it comes to sobriety even cigarettes got kicked out of tv commercials but beer and liquor has got to be atleast 1/8 of the commercials or youtube ads in the US currently
