At what point should I wear it?

How many kilograms is enough to wear one of this without looking as a homosexual? Or should I wear it just because my back hurts after squatting?

Well number one, if youre asking this you probably look like a homosexual no matter what, since youre too new too be doing anything right. Number two, NO
this is not fricking fine, its fricking trash. Buy a real leather belt or dont even wear one. a Pioneer brand belt will be the best bang for your buck. I have one myself ive used for about a year.

Good dont. If you really wanna look like a homosexual buy that useless fricking valeo belt and squat with it. Dont forget your squat plug. If you cant invest 100$ for your hobby youll stay dyel

I have yet to see any proof that belts are anything but a cope unless you are a competitive lifter.
Think about it, it’s meant to brace your core so you can support heavier weight than your core will normally allow.
But what’s the point of lifting that extra weight now with a belt instead of just working on your core strength until you can do it without the belt?

          >Its meant to brace your core
Fricking moron. Ever heard of intra-abdominal pressure? The valsalva maneuver? You brace your core, your belt locks your vertibre in place internally. Another dyel spotted

I have some pain in my back man, I just think it could help stopping it. How many kg do you squat without a belt?

squats are a leg exercise, if you are failing because of your core, you are not working your legs

This is about as dumb as someone not using straps to deadlift and hindering gains because muh grip strength

how so? the reasoning make sense
you cant actually lift it if the weakest link wont let you.

there are two world records for DL. One with and without straps. in reality there should only be one.

straps and belts should not count as your official PR.
But they are useful in preventing the weakest link of your body from impeding the other muscles

Cables are how many people put on size. There's a reason virtually every bodybuilder uses them. Even cable curls are superior to Barbell curls.

Of course, you likely won't get big without doing compounds, but chasing 1rms isn't how you put on size. Deadlifts in particular are pretty shit for putting size on anything but your back. Squats are solid, but hack squat works better for many people due to leverages. Mostly taller lifters though.

                >Deadlifts? Traps?
Tell me you've never deadlifted heavy without telling me you've never deadlifted heavy. Deadlift grow your traps particularly your upper traps through weighted stretch

I do 150kg 3x3 and I've never felt it in my traps. Maybe I'm a moron.

Do you ever feel your erector spinae(picrel) when lifting or get sore in them? I don't but they've gotten bigger since I started deadlifting heavy, they don't get. fatigued easily for the same reason traps don't fatigue easily, they are essential support musculature and if they got fatigued easily your body won't be able to support your spine or shoulders

Technically speaking, there is no arbitrary point where you should wear a belt.
Practically speaking, you'll look silly if you're squatting less than 225.

less than 315 for reps more like

I stopped using it because it doesn't do anything unless you are pulling some roid number weights

If your back hurts after squatting you're probably doing something wrong and a belt is not going to help you. Using a belt is fine when you are not a beginner and are pushing your current limits.

      > causing your lower back to flex at the bottom
I think I’m doing exactly this. I just saw bodybuilders going really deep while squatting. So it’s not for everyone, I presume?

  12. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

    >my back hurts after squatting
its not a crutch for shitty form
your back hurts because you are either going deeper than your hips will allow, causing your lower back to flex at the bottom, or you are leaning too far forward and turning it into a good morning
    fix your form

disregard the advice given ITT by tryhards

Buy the cheap belt, make sure you can actually wear it comfortably. You can start now. Wear or properly when doing squats and deadlifts. The belt is nice accessory for noobies, especially when you are scared your form is subpar. Do use the belt, but try to get your form right. Ultimately if you dont compete you shouldnt have to wear a belt at all. As in, if your last series makes you feel weird in the lumbar area without a belt, then something is not right. Alternate between workouts with and without belt

the guy is new to lifting and struggles with proper form, he wont spend top bax for some fancy equipment. He either gets a proper form (difficult to do and takes time), get a belt or stops lifting altogether. I say, remember the basics and get yourself a cheap belt, maybe then something will click in his head.

  16. 2 years ago

your back hurts after squatting because you go lower than your mobility allows and you go in lumbar hyperextension at the bottom
nothing to do with whether you use some piece of equipment or not
spend time fixing your form not money buying equipment

      Anonymous

So it’s not for everyone going low like this??

        Anonymous

mobility is something you can improve over time so the lowest you can squat right now isn't necessarily the same you will be able to squat in 6 months if you do mobility work regularly
anyway for now try to go as low as you can without compensating with your lower back, many exercises are already taxing for your lower back, no need to absolutely fry it for a few centimeters of deeper squat

I can squat 3 plates for reps without it but it feels like shit. Can squat 4 plates for 1 rep with it. Once the weight gets heavy enough it all feels like death and there's no point risking a snap city over a tiny slip in form
