Barbell Bench press is useless, especially after hitting 2 plate. Risk/reward ratio makes it not worth it.

Bench press is indeed a very overrated exercise. The OHP is a much better indicator of overall strength and more applicable in real world situations.
There are other safer exercises to build strong triceps and chest if that's your goal.

Just roll it onto your hips, and stand up, surely you're strong enough to do that, right anon?

I meant its more dangerous for the front delts than OHP
Everyone benching should have safety bars or at least know how to roll.

Overhead is much better to be honest, there's a reason they use it in the military even to test with Push Presses. Want big and wide chest? Can't go wrong with OHPs. Especially with Seated.

Please stop lifting, OP. You don't belong in the gym, you belong at a glory hole.

It has no function outside of benching, and men aren't supposed to have breasts. Agreed, OP.

What exactly is the risk of the bench press?
    >I might choke myself
You can't figure out how to solve this problem?
    >My shoulders hurt
Ok? Mine don't. Do more upper back pulling work for balance and fix your form. Alternatively, you can just do another lift that works for you. Everyone has a few popular lifts that don't feel right for their body, it doesn't mean those lifts don't work the vast majority of lifters.
    >I saw a video of some guy tearing a pec and blah blah
Yeah that happens when you're a roidtroon benching 500+ with compromised tendons due to steroid abuse. There's a video or story of a roidtroony suffering a gruesome injury on any lift ever invented. It means nothing to the average lifter.

    Where is the risk?

Surely you wouldn't go off program to try and lift a weight that you're not on schedule to hit? Right anon?

People will grind out a shitty 225 rep and then drop bench press, because they were revolving their training around some stupid 1/2/3/4 IST meme. Maybe you should've dropped the weight and used the exercise properly instead of trying to prove yourself to a site of anonymous users

This is me. I fricked my up my shoulder trying to grind out 245lbs and haven’t lifted in 2 months trying to recover. I gained close to 15 pounds and am severely depressed. I’m going to try again this week since my shoulder feels 95% there but I’m very worried I’ve given myself a permanent injury

Just take it easy when you go back anon. As long as you didn't tear your rotator cuff you should make a fine recovery from whatever you did

Do a few weeks or months of 8-10 at failure weight and your tendons will be way stronger. Anything below 3 is just stupid.

I've literally become able to fix rotator cuff shit within a week or 2 with actual rehab shit. Shrugs deadhangs rear delts and your abs have to keep up with your back.

If you can injure yourself with a bench a little above two plates you’re either weak or just really stupid. And deadlifts are just picking something up, are you incapable of picking things up off the ground anon?

Some people can be moronic at resource manaement and shouldn't go to failure for sure.
