One arm db row or close grip sternum chin-up/pulldown. >T.only deadlift for back.
If everyone had this mindset, then 99% of all exercises would be obsolete. Certain exercises may seem awkward to certain people.
At least Anon is searching for better ways to work out instead of being a fat c**t.
vertical is just straight up better. i have 0 doubt that if you take two lifters, whoever has the higher OHP and Pullup total will look better regardless how much they bench/row
Pulling vertical only will mess up your shoulders in the long run. You need horizontal pulls, even if they're as simple as bodyweight rows, to injury-proof your shoulder girdle.
you can make "vertical" pulls more "horizontal" by extending the spine and leaning back with your chest up kinda like how most people do lat pulldowns
the muscle activity is similar between barbell rows and leaned back latpulldowns or leaned back pullups and you can do lat pulldowns to the sternum or pullups to the sternum
>yeah bro your delts are gonna be soooo huge if you just do tons of bench
"vertical" pulls use the same muscles as horizontal pulls
Seated cable rows are better than barbell rows.
Barbell rows are only ideal for a small % of athletes who benefit from the full body nature of performing them with proper form.
Anyone who just wants a bigger and stronger back should be doing cable rows and dumbell rows.
Inverted rows. Lay back with your feet on something so you are fairly horizontal to your dip bars/pullup bars, pinch back and row, row, row your boat. Only downside is that it's difficult to add weight without a backpack or weighted vest, but I do a mix of AMRAP, slow half reps to pre-exhaust then AMRAP, super slow reps for max TUT, and switch my grips up. good luck OP
Don't let the morons in this thread make you feel bad OP. Barbell rows are objectively a subpar UPPER BACK back exercise due to the disadvantageous position it puts your body in.
Opt for some sort of chest-supported barbell row or weighted inverted rows. If you're trying to hit your UPPER BACK, those two are better in every way.
>I trained like a moron and injured myself, that means the rest of you are gonna get injured
Sorry, but your shitty fearmongering advice doesn't apply to the rest of us, since we're not some ego lifting homosexual who injured his back ego lifting. Solution: Don't ego lift. Simple.
t. snotty <2 years lifter who thinks he's a seasoned veteran talking shit to people who actually put time to make some relevant experiences
some exercises are just more risky than others and it's usually smarter to avoid them, you can injure yourself even with warm up weights if you're unlucky
>people who actually put time to make some relevant experiences
Such as injuring yourself because you tried to lift more than you could? >some exercises are just more risky than others
Except for the fact that in this case, the lift itself wasn't the problem, it was the amount of weight that was the problem. Barbell rows are perfectly fine when you're not ego lifting 3pl8, dumbass. >and it's usually smarter to avoid them
No, actually, it's smarter to just do them in a way that isn't going to end up with you being injured in the first place. Again, the only reason you got injured was because of your ego, and now you're trying to blame the lift for something that was entirely your fault. I bet if you tore your biceps doing curls, you would also start fearmongering about bicep curls, too, right? The problem could never possibly be you, right? >you can injure yourself even with warm up weights if you're unlucky
Lol. No. I mean, maybe you could, since you're a weak, dyel homosexual, but that's not a problem for the rest of us.

Barbell rows are a shitty lift and that guy is stupid for getting injured
If you are doing 3pl8 with terrible form then you are gonna frick up your spine, don't tell me your form was good because if that was true you wouldn't have a herniated disk

>muh form
plenty of people injure themselves with weights regardless of their form
I saw a dude tearing up his tit doing 1pl bench press warmup, tell me he had a bad form lmao
Cope harder, he was a weak dyel and had terrible form, I see people all the time using shitty form with low weight, form injures you, weight aggravates things
To all dyels saying barbell rows are shit, if Chris Bumstead, the current Mr Olympia and Hany Rambod say that controlled barbell rows are the best back builder then it's true, especially coming from Rambod
i have kind of a ghetto setup but it feels better than others. i do one hand dumbbell rows but in my opposite hand i use a baseball bat kind of like a cane and it balances everything, you can move it around easier than switching hand positions on a bench or whatever too
Being a weak gayby is the alternative
LAT pull-down
Cable pull-down
Seated cable rows
If everyone had this mindset, then 99% of all exercises would be obsolete. Certain exercises may seem awkward to certain people.

the last guy you responded to was offering suggestions
My bad.
>I hate this exercise, what is the best alternative to it?
t. pantyboy in my gym
One arm db row or close grip sternum chin-up/pulldown.
>T.only deadlift for back.
Seated dumbbell rows
Pull ups duh
>horizontal pulls and vertical pulls are interchangeable
The absolute state of dyels
>thinking that even matters if you´re doing tons of pull ups
stay DYEL
>yeah bro your delts are gonna be soooo huge if you just do tons of bench
vertical is just straight up better. i have 0 doubt that if you take two lifters, whoever has the higher OHP and Pullup total will look better regardless how much they bench/row
honestly, a spicy take, but i could see it being real
This tbqh. Pull ups and OHP are god tier. Throw some power cleans in there if you want a super juicy back
Pulling vertical only will mess up your shoulders in the long run. You need horizontal pulls, even if they're as simple as bodyweight rows, to injury-proof your shoulder girdle.
>t. literal dorito- all width and no thickness.
You need to do both you nacho cheese flavored Black person.
only doing pullups will give you bad posture and internally rotated shoulders. every pullup autist looks like a hunchback.
just do zerchers and pull ups.
Literally just turn your body 90 degrees and it’s now a horizontal motion
Thats called a row. Thank you for proving my point.
yes all horizontal pull exercises are “rows” this does not mean the barbell row is any less shit of an exercise
Front levers aren't that easy lmfao
you can make "vertical" pulls more "horizontal" by extending the spine and leaning back with your chest up kinda like how most people do lat pulldowns

dubs and i pull your moms
pull ups you fatfrick
Cable rows.
Seated cable rows are better than barbell rows.
Barbell rows are only ideal for a small % of athletes who benefit from the full body nature of performing them with proper form.
Anyone who just wants a bigger and stronger back should be doing cable rows and dumbell rows.
how about plated machine rows
Just do it right since it benefits your diddylifts
Do chest supported rows
Pull-up, dumbbell rows, gymnastic ring rows, inverted barbell rows.
I love them but I fricked my lower back on them this week and can't do shit now lol. Wasn't even going that heavy baka
t-bar row
unironically do smith machine rows
Interesting idea

I destroyed my disk doing 3pl barbell rows, switch to db rows or literally anything else, this shit can be legit dangerous

I substitute barbell rows with pic related.
Am I fricking up?
barbell rows
To all dyels saying barbell rows are shit, if Chris Bumstead, the current Mr Olympia and Hany Rambod say that controlled barbell rows are the best back builder then it's true, especially coming from Rambod
neck hangs on a rope
1 set to failure
Dumbbell rows with your offhand supporting your body. Literally actually targets the muscles and gives you way more ROM than a barbell.
Can I do T bar rows instead
Chest supported rows or cable rows. Less low back fatigue for the same back gains
i have kind of a ghetto setup but it feels better than others. i do one hand dumbbell rows but in my opposite hand i use a baseball bat kind of like a cane and it balances everything, you can move it around easier than switching hand positions on a bench or whatever too
I use a trap bar instead of a straight barbell
Gives you just a bit of extra ROM that makes it feel better
landmine rows?
I do tbar rows, I like them a lot better.
i hate this exercise, what are the best alternatives to it?
Leg press/sled/hacks
Heavy farmers walk, walking lunges.
Or just do only deadlifts for legs unless you need jumping power somehow?
>I hate this exercise, what is the best alternative to it?
Look up this, bro
0:38
?t=38
Calisthenics alternative:
2:14
?t=134
>itt dyels who can't do barbell rows because they have a tiny back and weak core
ngmi homosexuals
