Barefoot/minimalist shoes

It's 2023 and the manufacturers STILL can't get the toebox right, what the FRICK is wrong with these morons.
Seriously look at this, look at it! their own fricking product page shows what a wide toebox should look like and what modern shoes are like
and then their own product? It follows the modern shoe toebox rather than the human shaped toebox.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Its literally one thing, and I still have to scour the internet to find shoes that don't frick this one thing up so horribly.
What the hell do they have against human shaped shoes, what makes it so hard for them to get it right.
I just want to do running in comfortable shoes.

I have a pair of whitin and they’ve got plenty of toebox. Spend more than 30 dollars on a pair of Chinese drop shipped to Amazon shoes and you might find what you’re looking for

I’m not b***hing about them though. I’m getting exactly what I expect from them- a cheap, wider than traditional toe box, basic barefoot shoe.

spent 80 on a pair of feelgrounds and the toebox was still slightly too narrow

I tried whitin first. Def good for the price and I still use them when its too cold to work out barefoot and as a wear around shoe that can get dirty while I work on stuff. Favorite shoe so far is the Altra one I got for running the toe box is giant and my legs no longer kill me when I run. Got a good shape used one on ebay for same price as whitin but new are over 100

If you size your shoes correctly, shoes that don’t look like a human foot imprint will still be comfortable and not compress your toes. Were you sized properly when you went to the running shoe store? You DID go to an actual running shoe store, right anon?

Not OP or a barefoot fanatic, but this is not true at all, especially not for running shoes. It has gotten better recently and some brands sell 'wide' versions of their major model lines, but some models are simply shit.

Pairs with a slightly too tight toebox I have owned in recent years NB Fuel Cell Propel RMX, Nike Infinity React FK2, Saucony Kinvara 11, Saucony Ride 13, Adidas RC 2 (granted it's a flat, bu still), Pegasus 39 SHIELD, Asics Road Hawk FF2. The normal Pegasus 39 is great, but the shield is just very slightly too tight, because the upper is slightly too rigid. Also every day sneakers like the Adidas Stabil, beautiful shoe, but horrible fit at any size.
You won't feel it with these shoes at low milage and I trashed most of them on easy miles, but as soon as I ran 100k+ per week and 20k+ runs, it really fricked with my big toe. And my feet are unnaturally thin with fricked up little toes from wearing conventional shoes up until my mid 20s. I still own some of the pairs to wear when shopping for grocieries or other short time frames, but I cannot wear them after long runs, as they put too much pressure on my big toe.

At ridiculous sizes maybe that make your foot slip around inside the shoe and make it completely impractical.
This is normie shoe COPE it doesn't fricking work. Just because you aren't in physical pain doesn't mean your shitty gay ailen toebox is fit for human wear.

See this is what makes me assume you’ve never bothered to get properly fitted. Like it’s clear as day. The whole point of a proper fit is to get good toe room while still having a secure fit and a taper at the forefoot for performance.

the problem with wide toebox shoes are that they arent wider at the pinky toe so its still squished. atleast for me.

yeah, again have to double check that the wide stuff is actually wide because when they said "wide" they mean for goy gimped feet. Not wide for people who weren't mangled by modern shoe, or people who have recovered mostly from modern shoe.

Pretty much, the minimalist shoes are cheap to produce because its literally less bells and whistles.
20-50$ price range is where you find good enough but not over price, or where the best bang for buck is.
You do have to look around and find stuff though.
But it's really annoying how a lot of them still don't offer the basics
          >good toe box shape that is meant for humans
          >no arch supports or other gimmicks
          >just flat, and flexible shoe that is light
a simple list you'd think, but most can't even get the toe box shape right.
Meh I still buy one pair and run it into the ground over the course of 1 year. Which reminds me of normie running shoes and how people suggest you replace them every 3-4months because muh memory foam is giving out or some other shit. what a joke.

how much does the toe aspect make a difference from a wide/correct toebox + toed socks

        Anonymous

Another anon, but it's a different feel and it depends how the shoe shape matches your for shape. They don't compress the foot, but for me they feel quite tight. I like it for running, but for walking it's not that comfortable.

          Anonymous

Hmmm, strange, For me minimaist shoes are comfy both running and walking, but those are the non toe ones.
I kinda wish I could try out the toe ones to see if there is any difference but the price and fitting is a pain for ordering and it's too exotic to find in normal shops.

            Anonymous

That's why I'm saying that toe shoes are different. It would also depend on your feet, because toe shoes have a universal shape (that will vary a bit with a model of course), while all feet are different.

      Anonymous

I'd love a pair but no one sells them local and I'm not buying something that fitted (toe length and such) without trying it on first. Especially not for the prices they charge. Currently wear Merrell Vapor Gloves and they work well enough though the toe could definitely be squarer.

    > I just want to do running
    > Posts non-running shoes
For running you need to buy shoes that are marketed as running shoes, and cost $100+. Those are models that are designed for running, and there you select those with the appropriate toebox, because models vary in fit, in particular because different runners have different feet and prefer different things. If you buy anything else, you're buying a fashion shoe, so don't complain.

Oh yeah, I buy minimalist shoes because they are so pretty and fashionable, which is why certainly the number one complaint about them isn't that they are unfashionable.
      You are really fricking reaching.

Decent minimalist shoes (like Vibrams) cost upwards of $100 just the same, so you're not going to save that much money with them. They have a potential to last longer because they only have hard and more durable rubber on the sole and don't have the foam, but it's not guaranteed. If you buy off-brand minimalist shoes, you're again buying something that wasn't designed for performance. For example, Vibram rubber is just superior to everything else, but you won't find it on cheap knock-offs.

          >Decent minimalist shoes (like Vibrams) cost upwards of $100 just the same
Decent minimalist shoes that I use to run for over a year in cost me 30-40$
          > so you're not going to save that much money with them.
You have a real consumer mindset.
          > you're again buying something that wasn't designed for performance
What performance, this isn't a fricking car with racing engine. It's a piece of rubber under your foot to reduce friction with the ground, not even impact, just simple friction.

As usual, tight but comfortable fit, flexible sole, and durable materials. I don't have faith in Chinese knock-offs getting that right.

Think that's bad? Look at fricking rollerblades. Got the widest model they make, the hard plastic boot is plenty wide and big... And then they put the skinniest, pointiest fricking liner in it. Fricking why? Why make that wide boot only to fill it with an insanely narrow inner boot?

As with anything, if you want it done right you basically have to do it yourself.

gonna shill these because iv had such a good experience with them. If you got some wide ass feet or want a natural foot shaped shoe, try out lems shoes. • 12 months ago

zero drop is ok but depends how minimal. I like cycling in my lems boot but i wouldnt do it in their super light weight running shoes that can fold into each other. You want some support in your shoe so its not bending like crazy when you pedal.

I cycle in my vapor gloves, but since they're so thin and flexible I can get hot spots on my foot from the pedal. A stiff sole is more efficient but less comfortable.

Show a normie a pair of vibram five fingers or even a regular style shoe with an anatomical toebox and ask them what they think. Most people will say they look weird or even creepy in the case of the toe shoes. Shoe companies know this and they're in the business of making money, not ensuring you have healthy feet or a good running stride...even running shoe companies are going to do what sells to the mainstream not what's the most optimal. Plus for the most part, a traditional running shoe is going to be the best for competition considering energy return and other factors, while a more minimalist shoe is probably better for training.

On that note, i own Vibram KSO evos and V-runs and like them both. The KSOs are quite thin so for better or worse you feel everything. The V-runs a bit thicker in the sole and the more well balanced shoe IMO.

To anyone interested in minimalist shoes, vibram five fingers, etc. start slow and work your way up...you'll quickly discover that you heel strike like crazy and have probably never used your calf muscles to run.
