I wonder how good it feels to tell a greedy corporate suit to keep his grubby hands off the hot dog combo price. I can't help but think of the trope of an old man desperately trying to fight/resist modern times, except this guy is actually fricking do it.

Do yuros really have to put a deposit down on glassware at bars etc.? I heard they do this in Germany.

In Germany they are scared to eat ice so it literally doesn't exist in any bar, they will not give you cold water under any circumstances and they will actually call the police on you if you try and fill your glass from the tap in the bathroom, also 12 year old girls sunbathe nude in the park. It's a pretty weird place

I never got the ice thing either but I'm talking about a deposit at bars and stuff. Also why do they charge for water in the first place?

My original question though was about the glassware deposit. I heard in Germany places with beer mugs and stuff make you pay money for the mug and you only get it back when you return the mug. Is this true?

                >water

Here in Spain they charge you, but it comes from a bottle. And it’s like 500ml or something small. I’m used to it now, but when I first ate at a restaurant, I kept ordering water after water not knowing this was the case, because in the US it’s free, then my bill came and I wound up drinking like €10 worth of just bottled water with my lunch. Now I just fill my water bottle up from the tap in the bathroom after I drink the one I pay for. israelite me once, shame on me. israelite me twice…

I'm guessing the temperance movements didn't help enough. us americans only have free water and water fountains everywhere because wealthy proponents of the temperance and abolitionist movements wanted to make it easier to stop drinking and installed earlier ones themselves. there are laws in the usa requiring restaurants offer free clean water to anyone who asks and installing water fountains in most semi public buildings.

What's funny about it? It's a common model. Costo and Sam's club do it in the US. I'm from South america and we have a store that offers the same.

It's not like you have to go to that store, but they offer certain products and perks that might be worth it. Specially if you buy in bulk. I pay like 20 usd a year and get to buy cheaper shampoo, soap powder and beef and pork in bulk, as well as some cheese and imported conserves. My family also use it to get other shit they like.

Kirklands is just a label owned by Costco. They don't actually make things that I know of (I might be wrong about that) its just like the equivalent of a "Walmart brand" if you will. I think they are a private brand so they can source various products and sell them for lower prices because they are such a big operation.

        Anonymous

Like they'll contract with the minoxidil manufacturer who knows selling under the Kirkland name will get them more business than selling under their own?

Yeah something like that I guess. Kirklands is giant and moves tons of volume so the manufacturer sells immense quantities to them. Tgen kirklands packages it and is owned by Costco (and whatever other retailers are in that family) and it gets put on shelves all over the place. Just my guess.

It's a white label, basically costco has a third party manufacturer make something like protein powder, labels it kirkland, then sells it as their own. This is really common especially with packaged food, the food you buy from walmart may have actually been made by the same manufacturer as costco, it's just branded and has different quality assurance standards it has to pass. Costco pulls this off and can offer better quality because they have higher qa standards and do an insane amount of volume.

Frick I love costco, the $5 rotisserie chickens are such an amazing bulking food surprised no one mentioned. Every week I get two of the rotisseries and a giant pepperoni pizza. Bring 2 slices to work for breakfast and half a shredded rotisserie wrapped in tortillas with a caeser salad for lunch. Their premade chicken alfredo pasta bake is also fricking amazing but its kinda overpriced so I don't get it often.

the chicken is incredible. i usually buy it and eat all the obvious pieces like legs and breasts just with sides, then remove most of the scrappy meat for soups and stews, then boil the carcass with onions, carrots, celery, garlic, peppercorns and salt to make the best chicken broth on earth.

oh yeah! When I take the chicken home I put some gloves on and pull apart the meat and put that in another container. Then the bones and skin and stuff that's left behind I put in a pot with some water and boil the rest of the meat off the bones. Then strain it into another container and use that to make some stew. Then I take what is left and put it in my garden as compost. It is really awesome

Not food related but costco is the only place I have ever seen to have a reasonable price for micro fiber towels, like 20$ for over a years worth of car/boat washes and waxes for a single family.

Daily reminder that the supplier for Costco hot dogs used to be ~~*hebrew national*~~ and when the possibility of a price increase came up, the Costco founder terminated the agreement with the israelites and built his own hoe dog factory lmao
