I'm on the ephedrine + caffeine train because it's a better stimulant. Literally like Rx-free Adderall.

It can get you drinking less coffee. I still want to quit stims but better a half-Bronkaid and a half-coffee than just a coffee.

well the problem with coffee is the caffeine. I'd drink coffee all day if it had zero caffeine in (even decaf has enough to cause an impact)

Just keep a note on your overall stress levels and quality of life because for a portion of the population it can really do you in

I have the EXACT same reaction, yet I can't bring myself to rid myself of this addiction.
When I wake up in the morning, everything feels so raw, brutal, intense.
Drinking coffee makes me go into half-sleep mode, which feels nicer in the short term, but then the side effects start.

Yes, it is a stimulant. Oral doses of 35g of salt can be fatal in adults. Fricking anything can be fatal in a high enough dose. Doesn’t mean it’s “toxic” in a low dose. Substances are only toxic when you consume too much for your body to metabolize/excrete

          Anonymous

toxin is enough for a greentext story about finding out about the negative effects. I don't want to go into the gradual buildup of adenosine because most anons won't give a shit

Afaik coffee in high doses can drastically increase the number and density of adenosine receptors in the brain over long term use, which can make you feel chronically tired. That being said, not only is this easily reversed by ceasing coffee consumption for a few months, but you can entirely prevent it by just moderating your consumption. Drink 2-3 cups per week instead of per day. You’ll be fine

This anon is right. And I'm still going through the process of fixing my brain. I've been sleeping almost 10 hrs a day for the last month and a half or so. Never drink coffee daily, or at least make sure its not every day of the week.

Try tapering off to 2-3 cups per week dude. If you’re truly not addicted, it shouldn’t be a problem. You’ll still be able to frequently enjoy the taste of coffee. But if you find that doing so is extraordinarily difficult, you might be addicted.

I drink over a pot of black coffee per day, sometimes even two pots of coffee. I've been trying to cut down but I still drink nearly a pot.

The doctor also told me to drink one cup of water for every cup of coffee in addition to the daily recommended amount of water and that has helped a lot. I was probably very dehydrated all the time which made sense because when I drank two pots I would feel hungover in the mornings as if I drank a ton of alcohol the night before.

Sounds like you aren't so religious about having it every day. The every single day component is the biggest reason why it gets bad for people.

        Anonymous

Nah, I do drink it every day (for the passed 10 years or so). Started off small, had the shits each time I drank it. Like everyone. But for me with time I developed a resistance I guess. Like with all drugs. I can drink 5 cups (not a normal measuring cup, like the 135 mL of coffee cup), wait 45 min for the caffeine to take effect, and still go to sleep no problem and wake up feeling well the next day. I also take an EC stack on average once a day.

Also what I meant to say was I drink it every day, but let's say one day I'm too busy and don't have time to make any, which happens from time to time, or if I'm out in the woods and don't have the tools to make it, I don't go into crazy withdrawal either. Despite my extensive use.

I guess it's like tolerance to anything, like lactose. Genetic.

I've quit coffee enough times to notice it really is a poison, at least for me. It makes me generally more anxious and fricks with my sleep hygiene. When drinking coffee I feel totally exhausted at night (not in a good way), I dream much less and wake up groggy, sometimes with a headache. Normally I can "wake up" and become alert in 10-15 minutes after waking up, but with coffee it seems like I'm not really awake until around lunchtime. I don't even want to imagine what coffee does to your guts and heart.

Ibuprofen. Also noticed that having an alternating hot-cold shower is a god-tier method for easing a headache, it's never failed me. IME it takes a long time for your sleep to truly return to normal, perhaps a whole month.

Coffee is inflammatory to the gut, especially the cheap stuff that had a lot of pesticides used on it. That's probably a big part of your symptoms. Also, caffeine intake within ~90 minutes after waking or ten hours before sleeping can mess with cortisol levels and your circadian rhythms.
If you get good quality coffee and drink it in moderation, you'll have few issues, if any.
I drink coffee, but usually only a single shot of espresso mixed into a latte, and only after being up and moving for a few hours. No issues. But if I drink something strong/cheap on an empty stomach (no water or anything) right after waking up, it'll cause digestive issues for me. I love the stuff, but it's just not good to drink a lot of it.
I miss my Greek coffee. Maybe I'll pick some up at the Greek shop a couple towns over....

So if coffee is unhealthy, what brands make it healthy? Or should I give up on drinking it and just drink energy drinks

      Anonymous

Energy drinks are great. They combine a decent amount of B vitamins, taurine and sugar with caffeine. The sugar is necessary to prevent a stress response from the caffeine raising the metabolic rate, so the sugar fulfils the increased calorific need.

The belly is likely from the shit in your coffee. Most coffee is full of sugar and fat. Black coffee doesn't cause weight gain.

But the cortisol spikes from it and decreased sleep quality can impact the other symptoms you listed. It's honestly best to avoid caffeine if you can.

Might be bloating. Coffee especially in excess can serve as a laxative. It makes me very gassy and bloated when I drink it. Oddly, caffeine in other forms doesn't do this to me.

Sleeping for 7 hours at any time earlier than 11pm actually makes me lazy in bed for like 15 minutes. Might just be something about the light outside that I'm trying to adjust to but idk.

Extreme coffee drinker here sometimes I drink 6 cups a day. Your mood will dictate what the caffeine will do to you. If you have a high risk job or a date is a good idea not to consume a lot of coffee. If you are going to smash it in the gym and go for a pr go all in. If it’s a funday and you will be home you can sip lots of coffees. Just know when to do it. Although in November of 2019 I quit it for 2 weeks I was feeling great but now it’s hard af any tips?

      Anonymous

Quitting has been easy for me because I've internalized how bad caffeine has been for me since it became a regular thing.
If you can handle it, I really recommend going cold turkey on all caffeine sources at least for 1 week. By then you should have a good idea of if being caffeine free is a good thing for you.
