        >When Julius Caesar, at the age of 33, considered the achievements of Alexander the Great, he wept. His sighs and tears did not come as a result of mourning or fear for his own life, but from a sobering recognition: Alexander had conquered the world before the age of 33 and yet he (Caesar) had done nothing remotely similar, nothing that would warrant remembrance by future generations in the same amount of time (see The Life of Julius Caesar, by Plutarch).
You're not alone in that feel anon

He's Greek, same thing just less successful

              >When Julius Caesar, at the age of 33, considered the achievements of Alexander the Great, he wept. His sighs and tears did not come as a result of mourning or fear for his own life, but from a sobering recognition: Alexander had conquered the world before the age of 33 and yet he (Caesar) had done nothing remotely similar, nothing that would warrant remembrance by future generations in the same amount of time (see The Life of Julius Caesar, by Plutarch).

Never happened. Read about Caesar's life. He did everything as much as he could according to the mos maiorum. Thus he wouldn't by law be allowed to hold imperium over troops until the age of 36 as praetor. Yes he had imperium as curule aedile, but no command over troops nor posting in a province, as curule aediles were responsible for upkeep of Roman temples and public works and so had to stay near Rome. Really the legacy of Alexander pale in comparison to Caesar's. In a dozen languages Caesar's cognomen has become the word for king or emperor, and the state he ruled for a time lasted (in one way or another) until at least 1204. Every great state has claimed its legacy in some way, and even today the world's most powerful nation is often analogized with Rome.

So what? You're not the first to feel that way nor the last.
Even the greatest and influential men have felt that way
Not having made it doesn't preclude you from making it.

Even Cesar cried when he compared himself to Alexander the Great:
          >'Do you think,' said he, 'I have not just cause to weep, when I consider that Alexander at my age had conquered so many nations, and I have all this time done nothing that is memorable?

Thanks, I almost missed this one

Augustus was not related to Caesar by blood. He got adopted after impressing him.

It was easier to gain power back then. You could just overthrow the government. You can't do that now. You're always being watched.
