High volume crunches and leg raises every single day with progressive overload and you will eventually get them. That is all you need.

Is it fine to not have a rest day for abs? Don't they need time to heal?

Abs can be overworked which usually result in a hernia.

Thought hernias are caused more by intensity than volume?

            Pls explain more
I feel a bit of general core pain when doing cable crunches, nothing serious and I don't feel anything in any other exercise but I'm paranoid. Is it just pushing myself too hard or is it really hernia risking? Might switch to l sits, they don't bother me that wat

If you feel like they need to rest then rest. Listen to your body. Abs are like calves, you used them every day of your life, they can take a beaten.

I am currently doing 2 days on, 1 day off for abs.
I go reasonably hard, and doing it pre leg day seems to help me brace better since I can more easily focus on it.
I really like ab machine, and going super slow on the eccentric. Frys my shit up.
decline sit-ups are wonderful for this.

Eh I'm tall and have had a bad lower back for ages. I'd rather do squats and deadlifts with a belt even if it's not impressive weight than risk justing myself. Alternative is just to not do them at all so I don't see the issue.

Do ab work and get better at bracing.

how do you regressive underload on those exercises? higher volume? cute little dumbbell between your feet?

I use dumbbells or plates for weighted crunches, and ankle weights for leg raises.

Remember that one anon who would do 300 reps with a toy lightsaber and bags of soap for his workout? That is you but with abs

Pretty sure anon probably weighs more than a toy lightsaber.

Imho best exersize for abs is the ab roller. Literally you dont need anything else. I only do 4 sets of 12 reps of weighted rollers every three days. And I have a six pack. Cruches and leg raises from a pull up bar are decent but you really need to do high reps for progress

Ab roller doesn't hypertrophy abs, they don't work they just stabilize

I got a pretty decent core just through rock climbing in a gym and sticking to mostly overhang routes (basically forces you to engage core to keep your legs solidly on the wall) without really doing any targeted ab work

Do squats OHP and deadlifts with no belt. Finish workout with roman chair crunches weighted or roman twists whatever

"lifters" who start using a belt to do compound lifts while their numbers are still low are ridiculous people just following trends
