Hi, I am curious of your thoughts on blood pressure, specifically what is considered as "high blood pressure".
I have been lurking online and found that the bar for HBP varies significantly. Americans consider anything above 130/80 high whereas Europeans tolerate 140/90 to be "ideal" for healthy males in their 30s for example. I am 34 and my readings are usually 140-160/ 75-80. I do smoke and drink quite a lot and when I visited my doctor she said my pressure is ok (it was 147/80 at the time). I also train very regularly, 4-6 times a week lifting weights and cycle.
What do you guys think? Should I be concerned about my blood pressure and way of life?
frist
optimal in medical terms always changes
im pretty sure a few years back 140/90 was okay still for america if i remeber right the jsut changed it recently
so the question is why did they change it? do they have new data or are they just trying to sell you more blood pressure pills?
same goes for optimal blood level for anything testo best known on this board
because its suprising what is considered in the normal range
second
blood pressure and pulse changes wildly during the day
just from the circadian rhythm itself but also external stuff like stress
going to the doctor to measure might be already enough lowkey stress you to change and not giving an accurate number
third
most people even doctors dont even meassure right
you should sit or lay down for some minutes trying to breath naturally (since breathing can influence the heart)
you should measure a few times with some pauses in between and get the middle number of it
plus there is some stuff like the machine should be on the height of the heart etc.
so all in all you will never get a good number in the first place by just measuring it at the doctor once every year
if you are worried so much buy a machine and measure during a long peroid of time and document it by time and how you are feeling etc.
you will see you numbers will probably be in a good range and even begining high blood pressure isnt a big problem
or get like a full day measuring
you shouldnt alread jump on meds if you are young and if you feel its to high try some livestyle changes or like breathwork meditation or nutritional
your doc is right in not trying to scare you for no reason
I think you are right. I'm probably being over dramatic. Thanks anon
Any tips to lower? I'm 160/99 which is bad, I'm quitting caffeine, nicotine and started doing cardio. Anything else?
reduce your salt intake too
My salt intake is really low already, but I could try and cut it more.
What kind of stretching? Just all over body stretching?
whole body with focus on lower i would say
>12 week stretching regimen improved blood flow, lowered blood pressure, and decreased the stiffness of arteries. Good blood flow leads to less damage on artery walls and may mean a lower risk for heart attacks and strokes
Don't cut salt. Consume more potassium. If you don't want to eat more bananas or other fruit, then use that No-Salt or Nu-Salt stuff in conjunction with regular salt.
strechting is great for vasuclar health
if you dont already o that
also make sure to consider
I recently quit caffeine, I fount that I am less stressed and anxious overall. Try black or green tea.
Cardio is what worked for me. 4 months of cardio was all it took to get my levels back to healthy levels.
water fasting, you can bring it down quick. I had to go to the dentist and my BP was 200 (allegedly) and 175 on the other machine they had. I'm fucking spooked because I never had it that high so I'm fasting starting tomorrow morning
My BP was like 112/54 and my HR was 48 last time I went in at 5mg of sodium a day 225lbs
I'm still cutting, also when I are at the buffet and cane home it was 77 bpm
I get very light headed when standing up during a cut, also I need carbs b4 bed and I also wake up in the middle of the night most of the time
How do I fix all of this
my blood pressure is around that all the time. will I have any complications because of it on the long term?
If you have a high heart rate with that low bp then you need to increase your salt and water intake to increase blood volume.
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one on IST with low blood pressure, even if I take copious amounts of salt and drink lots of water.
Oh forreal that high used to be ok? I sit around 120-125/70-75 but the other day I was like 137/80 and I was freaking out
I test it religiously using my dads leftover home monitor after he died because Im sure in gonna have a heart attack/stroke within the year
You are actually supposedly in the perfect range anon. You shouldnt stress about it because the stress alone can cause you harm
You should shoot for 120/80. A bit lower is better but more lower is worse and anything above 135/(90?) Is towards hypertension. This is at rest with a brachial cuff of course.
Mine was high for 4 or 5 years at least. Typicall around 150/100. About 8 months ago it shot up to 190/115. I panicked and went to the emergency room. My heart was ok, no stroke, but they ended up putting me on BP medication. 25mg of Losartan. After a few months it was still around 140/90. The doctor upped it to 50mg and for about 2 months it was consistently around 115/70. The problem was that I started trying to exercise, I would get dizzy and my blood pressure would drop. Even just standing up too fast. The lowest it dropped to was 110/67. I went back to 25mg and it's consistently around 120/80. I haven't really lifted or done much for years and I stopped drinking Dr Pepper. I also went from 230lbs to 205lbs.
120/80 or less is optimal. The postulated "your BP increases with age" is a meme. Correlation does Not mean causation. Its because with increasing age you ingested more Shitty food, alcoholc, drugs, nicotine etc over the years. Your genes also determine how prone you are to high BP. On my fathers side everyone has it, probably i will get also soon Higher BP. Already Starring from time to time.
Usually mine is 120-130/70-75. All above i can feels, especially when Diastole rises above 80.
For optimal measuring:
>Sit down and relax for 5-10 mins
>Dont Talk, ear or whatever
>Measure
>Wait 1-2 mins
>Measure again
>Take second measurement and Note it
My blood pressure regularly measures between 125-130/70-80. Am I good?
is this bad?
High score!!!!!
If legit, go to emergency
How have your veins not exploded yet?
>I do smoke and drink quite a lot
You're knowingly taking part in unhealthy activities, do you find they are worth it?
>when I visited my doctor she said my pressure is ok (it was 147/80 at the time)
I can only go off what medical advice I get, and 140/90 is hypertension. Mine was approaching that point but my doctor also didn't seem that concerned, he gave me a list of things I can do about it but also said it'd take the fun out of life and recommended I just do cardio. So, I've been doing cardio for a month, spent a long weekend with friends and I was down to 111 systolic this morning.
>Americans consider anything above 130/80 high whereas Europeans tolerate 140/90 to be "ideal" for healthy males
lmao you fat fuck, 120/80 is ideal. Where did you get this awful cope
Do you guys measure your blood pressure a lot? I haven't been to the doctor in years so I have no idea what mine is.
I didn't until I found out it was getting high. Borrowed a blood pressure monitor and started measuring myself as it dropped
140/90 without medication. I take meds for blood pressure and when I am not drinking or eating like chit my bp averages 120-115 / 80-70. Big pharma keeps lowering the "normal" threshold so more americans are on pills. If your bp is higher than 150/100 continuously see a doctor and start bettering your lifestyle. If it 140/90 just improve lifestyle and check again in a month or 2.
How it should be you uuhealthy fucks
>t. my grandfather had a stroke in his late 30s and died in his 50s because he ignored his high blood pressure
