Bodyfat%

Is the biggest meme.

There is a total disconnect between actual measurable body fat % (via any number of methods) and perceived body fat %. Commonly you will see measured body fat at something stupid like 13% when the guy has layers of fat all over his body

There is this general consensus that 10-12% bf is extremely lean, yet if you measure those at this level, you will often get ridiculous numbers like 5%

It's pointless then. Just cut until you're very lean. There is not even a measurable number you can achieve - all eye test

They just use a formula based on weight, height, neck circumference, and waist circumference. It works well unless you have very unusual fat distribution or are a neck/oblique isolator.

weird way to test. What if you got a average neck and thicker waist?

Marines pay shit so obviously navy pays better for them. I don't know about army or airforce. Generally in terms of attracting smart people with good grades it goes Airforce>Navy>Army

          >The navy method
          redpill me on this

the navy method is the biggest joke on the planet and is not in any way accurate.
if a homie sucks in his stomach even a quarter of an inch it suddenly makes him lose like 5% body fat.

Only accurate fat measurer is water displacement or caliper.
Water displacement is accurate to 99.98%
Fat weighs less than water, so if they weigh you out of water, and place you in water. They have a near exact measurement of how much body fat you actually have compared to your weight.

          Caliper is accurate to 97%.
If I measure your buttocks, your breast, and the thickest portion of your stomach and get a specific measurement of fat. I can tell within 2% bodyfat what you are.

Then it's not the navy method, it's the fat frick scamming himself method. I'm sure if you chug a gallon of water before hydrostatic weighing or use the callipers on the leanest parts of your body you can frick up the other methods too.

accurate within 3% compared to what?

3% of body fat percent, as in, if you measure 12%, then your body fat is probably within 9-15%

Yes, but what method will you use to check to confirm this?

I think Dexa scan is the most accurate and this method is very close

There are papers on this which compare dexa scans I believe. Huge research budget for quality-testing and method development since this is used for approximating body fat in the US Navy.

So is it safe to assume Dexa is the gold standard for bf% scans?

Yeah, but it's x-ray so not something you'd want to get routinely. There is also hydrostatic weighing, but that is very inconvenient and needs waterproof scales, a pool, and weights.

Have you considered people just lie or are incompetent? Measuring works for my machine, I look close to the bodyfat% chart examples that my measurement tells me I'm at. Sure some bodies do hold weight differently, doesn't change the fact that accurate and consistent measuring helps track your goals.

Pretty much. Just get a tape measure and compare your measurements only to yourself. Best way to track if you're gaining or losing fitness.
