Boomers quitting thread

Boomer lifters who quit lifting when did it happen? For me once I got 30 I just didn't give a shit anymore. Gains are so glacial and I had been lifting for years and years by that point. I kept it up for another 9 months but quit by the time I got 31. Gonna be 33 in a few months now. The desire to lift has never come back strong. I just walk for like 90 minutes everyday now. Share your stories itt. No dumbfrick zoomers who have been lifting for <2 years and think the desire will never change. Pic unrelated.

28 here married but we don't want kids because I'm interested in having a decent career. How blown out is your wife's body? All the couple's I see the guy is normal or fit but the wife seems to balloon up after a few kids and never loses the weight.

wife fared pretty well considering. Obviously she doesn’t have the same body she did at 25. Our last 2 kids were back to back, barely 18 months apart lmao. She was very petite to begin with, literally a womanlet. Once she stopped breastfeeding and everybody started sleeping through the night she started a moderate deficit with some walking and basic lifting a couple days a week. Took her about a year to get back to her pre-pregnancy weight. Honestly it took a good bit of effort on my own part as well. She was never particularly passionate about fitness, and she knew she wouldn’t be able to do it on her own. So I made the time for her, I would handle bath and bedtime so she could walk or lift. I would make the menu and cook dinner most nights. When you have small kids it’s easy to let life get in the way, to eat takeout, skip a workout etc. We just kept each other motivated and accountable. We are a team, we succeed or fail together.

Having kids is worth the wife not being in the same shape she was at 25. Your wife will fail eventually too and you won't have the kids to show for it.

Didn't make it. All this effort wasted. Let me guess you settled in your career as well. So let me get this straight you are average in every respect aside from a somewhat decent body except from chucked chest genetics that ruins even that? I would be coping too honestly.

I'm not the person who posted a pic but you sound like you're coping a lot here. People have different desires in life. Some people like to raise a good family and live an honest happy life. Some people like to be consoomers and chase as many pieces of paper as possible for their happiness.

Imagine getting older and realizing you could have been using your discipline, goal-setting, and progress as a shining example to your own children and grandchildren but instead you get to age and die gracelessly and alone, still frustrated about your tiny calves.

40 here. 3 kids. Wife is 33 and still looks pretty great. She hates fatties and I don't think she will ever be one. She was 5'4" 118 lbs before kids and probably at about 126 or 128 now, but shes been lifting whereas before she mostly ran and swam. Swimmer ass remains insanely good. Obviously, good genetics help but she is disciplined and kind of innocent in that she will say how much she ate that day but in reality it was like a whole bag of baby carrots and an avocado, eggs, a smoothie and half a package of prosciutto or some shit. Like, yeah, you ate a lot of volume but she doesn't even realize that she rarely eats shifty calorie dense processed garbage.

She looks fine, actually. She runs regularly and tries to tone whatever body part I want her to improve. It's not the typical beta-husband-boredom problem with us. She still takes pretty strong anti-baby pills which kill her libido dead. She takes them because they suppress her period and therefore doesn't want to quit.
I'll have her consult her gynecologist about it at her next visit, because my patience is running thin.

There just isn't any pressure on me compared to when I was still a skinny kid and really had to put in the work to gain size. Whatever I lose when I am not busting my ass in the gym I can back in a matter of months.

    Literal boomer here.
For me, it was in my 50s, when an office move made it inconvenient to get to my gym for my usual lunch-break workouts; so I just stuck with cycle commuting until I retired. Then the first thing I did was go back to my old gym and start catching up again.

I am 42. I have been lifting for decades. I won't ever stop. It isn't about the gains, it is about the mental benefits, and just being strong. I am probably going to stop deadlifting and squatting soon though because my back is fricked. I think most people develop some kind of hernias and back deformities as they get older and squatting and deadlifting requires a near perfect body.

      Anonymous

I'm right there with you bro.
      I'll be 40 in about a month.
I've worked out since 7th grade, when I realized I couldn't do a single push up..
After that the gains came real fast in high school.. even after a few big Macs I'd look jacked.

Now it's harder to get that pump, even on a stricter diet.. but it's still there..
And lifting has kept me sane during really stressful times.

I don't do deadlifts either.. and use the smith machine for a lot of exercises.. but I'm seeing good results after cutting calories and being even more consistent.

The thing is, most guys even in their early 30s and late 20's are out of shape. It's nice just maintaining being a step ahead of the majority.

I guess I'm a "boomer" by today's moronic education standards even though I'm a millenial. I stopped lifting when I was a little past thirty for a few reasons. One was that it kicked me into a mental health crisis probably due to nutrient deficiencies aggravated by lifting and poor diet. I ended up on a lot of different medications that made it hard to even stand up nevermind keep doing deadlifts. Two was that I had started to develop several chronic injuries. They weren't caused by slipping with heavy weight. They were caused by repetitive strains. I had elbow pain forthat only went away ten years later. Knees hurt all the time. I still have back pain on my right side. I feel like my walking gait is now off and each step feels like it's stretching me out. I came to the conclusion that I wish I had never lifted anything heavier than a pair of fifty pound dumbbells. I still exercise, but I mostly use a single dumbbell to work on mind to muscle connection. I do all bodyweight now and care more about diet and mobility than piling on extra strength.

The truth that you will one day realize is that nobody lifts with perfect form on every exercise and unless you're paying a professional coach to watch your every repetition, you're fricked. Hell, even if you did pay for a pro spotter, you would likely still lift something and frick-up some day. I hate this moron level copy all lifters do before they get injured where they pretend that they're perfect lifting machines. You're one bad day from telling all the kids that they shouldn't ever lift at all. You just don't know it yet.

But I took it back up a few years ago more as a hobby than anything else, I've got a ton of free time on my hands and often found myself bored. I'm 40,. lifting super casual since I was 18, hardcore from about 25-35, and the last 5 years I reduced my training to the point now where I just do 15 mins of calisthenics in the morning and a brief weight session once or twice a week. I'm in terrific shape and look better now than when I was in my early 20s but at the same time I've moved from a standard diet, to a gymcel diet, and finally to something approximating a carnivore diet I think it's that which lets me stay ripped year round and maintain muscle without counting or tracking anything. I just eat til I'm full, do my light exercise and look good.

  23. 2 years ago

If you lift and drop it around 30, pick up a kettlebell instead for simple kettlebell swings, cleans and presses exercises to keep yourself strong and fit. You might even gain some new muscles on you, that you didn't realize could happen. Also recommended are the old school (physical culture) Wand/Staff exercises.

I nowadays mostly do just one excercise with 2.5kg more weight than last time. Then when my working sets form starts to breakdown too much I switch exercises. Lately I've been doing reverse barbell lunges with 3x10 2 plates, from a raised board. Probably gonna attack low bar squats again when I fix my form imbalances. Then I add some calf raises at the end since they dont really tire you in any form.

I dont see myself quitting in the near 5 years or so since that would literally leave me with just the tv and computer
