      the reason for pulldowns is
      >easier to strap in, get a good stretch and take lats to true failure
      >less fatigue
the last one becomes exponentially more important the stronger and heavier you get
this is not a cope for not being able to do 3 x 10 pull-ups with good form, if you can't do that you're just too weak and/or fat

      >Body weight gives absolutely no mechanical benefit to a bench press please stop this meme

The higher your body weight, the larger your chest (whether it be fat or muscle). Therefore, the heavier you are the shorter the range of motion is between the top of the bench press and the bottom. The less the bar travels, the easier the movement is.

is that why all the biggest benchers are 50kg with 4% bodyfat? of course it does you fricking moron. being 50kg vs 120kg makes A HUGE difference. like i dont even know how do i need to explain this to you, are you capable of using your brains at all or do i need to pinpoint literally every single detail?

so much of bench press is about a tight package and distance traveled. a 50kg holding 100kg in his hands has just physics alone much more impact on your stability than if a 120kg person holds 100kg. you will be able to keep much more stable when your back is big, your ass is big, your feet are big, your chest is big, everything. and obviously the distance traveled, im single digit bf with abs, if you put me next to a guy who is well over 100kg he is over 2x as thick as me. that makes an INSANE difference in how much you can bench if you only need to move it half the distance.

this can easily add to your bench from 120kg to like +150kg even though the strength levels would stay the same.

please stop cope posting. nobody who is 50kg is going to properly bench 4plates or even 3 plates.

      >Body weight gives absolutely no mechanical benefit to a bench press please stop this meme

Being fat means you have more muscle + your joints have more support from fat + you can bounce weight on your breasts.

If I bulk up from my 84kg to 100kg sure I'll be fat but my bench will almost certainly massively increase because a decent portion of that weight will be muscle.

That's why powerlifters permabulk, they can hold more muscle if they hold more fat.

I've never been able to do a pullup. Not even flexed arm pullups. As soon as my feet leave a support surface, my arms drop and I enter a dead hang that I sometimes can't even hold. Even at 210 lbs after spending months in the gym, I couldn't do it.
I got my test levels checked and it's 194ng/dl. I also have feminine body fat distribution (hips/ass/thighs.)
It explains it all. Pullups and raw strength are a product of healthy test levels. If you can't do pullups, you likely have shit test and will never make it without TRT. Frick my life bros I hate being me.

Did you try dead hangs and active hangs first ? Those bridge the gap between I can't do a pullup and I can do a few.

        Anonymous

Yep spent a solid 6 months training and never improved. I never increased strength or made any progress. No test = setup for failure. There are 70 year olds with higher test than me. Yet my doctor said "it's fine it's in range nothing to worry about" because the range starts at 123, thanks to the ancient old men walking around out here. It's fricked.

You are fricking up something beyond test.

Maybe low t manlets but how many low t tall guys are going around building enough muscle to lift 200+ lbs?
At the time when I was in my best shape at 210, I could do like 30 good form push ups. My bench was awful, no joke sub 100lbs. Lat pulldown capped at 115 lbs which I guess means I would have to weigh 115 lbs to do a real pullup? Fricked

bait aside how do I build up to doing pull-ups? I'm a 10kg overweight dyel who just recently started lifting after losing a ton of weight.

    TLDR; what's the knee push-up version of a pull-up?

Why would you want to? You look like a moron doing them. Do lat pulldowns

Use a resistance band. That's what I do I'm fat as frick, can only do 2 without the band.

      Anonymous

      dead hang then active hang
20 seconds multiple times, then increase by 10 until you reach at least 60 second active hangs
Then move on to actual pullups
Then when you reach a plateau in your pullups, do long active hangs again but for long periods like 80-90+ seconds.

You will get serious calluses, don't sweat it too much. A bunch of days pause and they go away.

this is the good stuff listen to this guy. Once you're able to do 3 in a row just try getting like 3 sets of 3 twice a week, and see if you can add reps after a few weeks. thats how i started.

      GJ on the weight loss!

You could use a band, but I prefer pull-up negatives as it's the most effective part of the movement for your strength and hypertrophy gains. Jump to the bar and just resist your own weight on the way down. If you have access to one of those boxes you can step on or something similar then even better, use it.

But we're in the gym which gives us plenty of options. Another one is to simply do lat pulldowns without straps, bentover rows, perhaps cable rows. Need to get that overall back strength up so focus on that with heavy, quality sets.

Finally make sure you get enough grip strength as that can become the limiting factor for many attempting pull-ups.

Be patient as not only your muscles but overall tissues adapt to it and you'll get there.
