It's not that unhealthy, if eaten in moderation. It's a lot of calories for not a lot of benefit though.

There's a big difference between having a couple of slices of homemade pizza and shoving two large domino supreme pizzas down your gullet.

Homemade pizza is great. Having control over the quality of the ingredients is a game changer.

It's not unhealthy if you make it yourself, just very high calorie and not enough protein.
Most of the calories are in the dough, you can use a tortilla as a base and have a low-ish calorie pizza everyday on a cut.

Just make your own pizza you american moron

Exactly. There is nothing unhealthy about flour, water, tomatoes, shallot and mozzarella. 🙂

When people say processed cheese they are generally trying to separate the traditionally made cheese that you can make at home with just milk and rennet, from the industrialized cheese that is made with several artificial additives, such as sugars, fats, colorants, preservatives, etc.

    Italian pizza is not unhealthy
Can’t speak for the American stuff

      Anonymous

Strictly speaking, the American stuff doesn’t need to be unhealthy either. Don’t add sugar to the dough, don’t spray it down with garlic infused vegetable oil, don’t add sugar to the sauce, dont use the processed meats with nitrates, don’t add vegetable oil to the sauce, and use a real cheese without added non-milk oils or sugars. If you fallow those rules, you can even use refined white flour and it’ll still be pretty healthy.
What makes it American then? The mixture of dry mozzarella and cheddar cheese for the cheese, the amount of cheese, the toppings like Italian sausage or Canadian bacon, and the fact that a single pie should serve a family of 4, at least.

        Anonymous

The main difference is that American pizza has oil in the dough and that it is cooked at lower temperatures

          Anonymous

I thought it was that we use so much cheese that you can’t see the sauce and we like adding toppings like pepperoni, sausage, bacon, Canadian bacon, ham, salami, beef, and meatballs to the pizza? Like the “good local joints” all use high-temp wood-fire pizza ovens, and it’s still American pizza. It’s definitely a much more noticeable difference.

I tried one of these authentic pizzas
it was dogshit. Each size was flimsy as hell and kept drooping. The cheese was not spread proportionately across the pizza. Sure there's meat but no vegetables, just shit like raw garlic cloves drizzled with olive oil or raw spinach that stinks. Tomato sauce everywhere. Fast food has perfected the pizza, you can't beat a regular Domino's. Cheaper and far tastier.

The only thing you need to focus on is CICO (calories in calories out) and protein values

That's the answer to being healthy. Make sure you eat a lot of protein and less calories than you burn if trying to lose weight. A lot of protein and more calories if you're trying to put on muscle.

late to the party but the main issue with GMO is dodgy practices - if a farm is growing patented GMO crops and some are found on a neighbouring farm because of windblown seeds and shit like that they try and sue the farmer for theft
also making the seeds they sell sterile so you're forced to buy more each year
also making the plants herbicide/pesticide resistant instead of pest resistant so the farmer has to buy their "totally safe" chemicals to spray on their crops

                Anonymous

Last one is the one that does it for me. It's not that I'm scared of herbicide resistant corn. You can't even buy produce in the grocery store that hasn't been drown in carcinogens.

herbicide resistant is bread in so you can spray a "kill all weed" without affecting the crops.
You can maybe instert a genome that makes the plant resistant to insect larvea, but you cant insert a sequence which makes it excrete literal poison for other plants without the public screeching even more (european walnut does this)

pizza is perfectly fine if you make it yourself without all the added sugars and chemically processed shit they put on takeways.

i am on my cut and i have pizza once a week and it does not affect it one bit.

but make everything yourself... the dough the salsa and just buy the cheese which you can check on fat/protein/carbs. you can add a slice or two of ham and peppers and you are good.

Americans load it with cheese, fatty meats, cheese in the crust, etc

Fast-food tier pizzerias use a frickton of margarine and sugar in their dough, makes the crust extremely savory
Higher-end pizzas crusts depend more on the olive oil and freshness (used 1-2 days after mixing rather than being frozen for x days), they're rich in a more subtle way

Opinions on making pan pizza every once in a while?

Pan pizza just amplifies the worst part of it and makes it taste worse. I don't see the point unless you desperately need to save money.

Buy premade crust or make your own?

It's unhealthy because it contains both fat and carbohydrates in high amounts.

      this
if there's very little oil in the base, and you top it with chicken breast and vegetables (and either no cheese or very low fat cheese) then it's not unhealthy

When it's from a fast food place they use a ton of s*ybean oil in the crust and sauce, plus they use hyper processed cheese and toppings. Throw in extra sugar on everything and you've got unhealthy pizza.

does self made pizza really taste that much better than the ones (cheese pizza) from dominos? that one time i tried eating some i almost puked from how gross it tasted (even for fast food).

for me the homemades are better no question but it depends how good a cook you are and on your palate - you might be used to overly sweet/salty pizza

Home cooked vs Fast food is debatable.
You want to go to an italian pizzeria.
There many factores which are a pain in the ass for home cooking like fermenting the dough or impossible like having a strong enough oven.
Also you get the top handmade ingredientes from a good italian restaurante, but if you do It yourself you may bit some shit cheese or sauce

I will try eating it from a decent restaurant first then as I'm a pretty bad cook.

Traditional pizza isn't that bad it doesn't even have bad macros, just don't eat to much of it and too often.
Fast food "pizza" with sneed oil and and other useless added shit should never be eaten though.

When we are talking homemade are we taking you roll your own dough as well are premade rolled dough pie from the grocery store?

      Anonymous

I would say rolling your own dough but I bet others would disagree, it's still probably healthier if you use the pre-made dough because at least you're doing your own toppings

    >Bread
fattening as frick, very little nutritional value (none really, just empty carbs). Mucus forming
    >Tomato sauce
On its own perfectly fine, EXTREMELY acidic once cooked. Mucus forming
    >Cheese
Too protein dense, constipating in nature. Mucus forming
    >Meat
    >eating meat
    kek. Mucus forming
    >Vegetables
The only redeeming thing on the dish, but loses enzymes once cooked so its basically null. Helps to digest the rest of the meal tho, so thats a plus

All in all, you can get away with eating a slice here and there, its not like its the UNHEALTHIEST thing you could eat. Just do it in moderation and youll be ok
