Breaks from lifting

Why is it that I always come back stronger after a week or two off from lifting?

Anytime I take a break after lifting consistently for months I put more reps up of the same weight I was using

How many times a week do you train and for how long? You probably do too much volume

3 x week for probably hour and half, huge focus on intensity

      You grow while you rest.

      I take rest days

      You're probably over training.

      Doubt it

CNS recovery you get from a deload. It's why anyone that lifts seriously has a deload week every 4-6 weeks.

      Makes sense

being natty your body will take longer to recover, which is key to growing. that's why steroids are so popular especially in sports. to boost recovery.

I get enough sleep and take rest days

        >I take rest days
Yeah, everyone does. A couple days isn't enough to recover 100% Like others have stated, deload works.

4 out of 7 days a week seems like pretty good rest to me

          >spends an hour and a half at the gym

That doesn’t seem particularly crazy to me? How long do you go for?

I go about 3-4x a week, but my workouts take like 30 mins.

Are you including cardio in your gym time?

              Nope, just weightlifting

But I do light cardio and speed bag work on my rest days

    What is deload

Same happens to me. I guess the usual recommended 2-3 day recovery time is not enough. Now I don't even follow a program, I just wait until the aches are gone and lift again (Usually 1-1.5 weeks later).

I feel the same. I even feel that I look better during that week of rest despite not having a pump.

Because exercising creates fitness and fatigue. Fatigues masks your fitness. When your fatigue drops away without any loss of fitness, more fitness may be revealed than was before fatigue reduced.

It's like, why do I look more muscular after a cut? Should I be bulking to get muscle? Well yes, but bulking also brings you body fat. When the fat is stripped away, more muscle is revealed than was visible at the end of your bulk.

you need more rest days in your routine. your routine is making you heal injuries, not getting stronger, in the long term. you are doing something suboptimal.
