Why aren't you pressing again?

>Why aren't you pressing again?
are you new here? This board pretty much worships “the press™“
I am pressing anon. I’m at 65lb 3x5 because I am DYEL. Attempting 70lb tomorrow
The other day I was peer-pressured into trying the 95lb log bar with 20 or 30 lbs of wait on it. I got 5 reps on the first try.
You should do it with both arms.
I’m weak anon
Proud of you, bro.
Keep progressing.
>Attempting 70lb tomorrow
it's eerie
i can vividly remember struggling to press my gym's 70lbs fixed athletic barbell and thinking "this fricking thing will never go up" as if it literally happened yesterday, and now i'm pressing 185 for reps
still no gf though (they say you need to hit 2pl8 first)
Nice anon. How long did it take you?
>How long did it take you?
i don't want to answer this question
I’m
I started my first gym membership in September and my first max was 115. I hit 135 middle of October. Full disclosure I had been doing 10x10 dumbbell pressing at home from May to September, got up to 35s I think. But when I started in the gym I focused every Saturday on pressing, and worked to improve my 1 rep max every time for the first couple months. My sets would go like this
60% 1x8
70% 1x5
80% 1x3
90% 1x3
95% 1x1
1rm 1x1
105% attempt for a new max
Then I would do a 5x5 at 90% of my 1rm.
That would be my entire Saturday workout for the first few months. Wednesdays I would do 8x8s of OHP at about 60-65% of my 1rm from the weekend.
dumbels better for bench press? im doing 3x4 - 85pounds with dumbels
>still no gf though (they say you need to hit 2pl8 first)
tfw 2pl8 ohp
no gf
think it maybe happens at 3pl8
I don't even press and not only do I have a gf. I also have a married woman 12 years older than me who is literally stalking me because she wants my D.
Nice larp
I had a gf when during my journey from 70lbs to 1pl8. No longer have a gf at 185 lbs. surely she just didn't give me enough attention because she knew I wasn't at a 2pl8 The Press yet.
Once I get there I'll get a better gf
I remember I worked very hard to get to 1pl8 and cried tears of joy the first time I put it up for one. 6 months later, this weekend, I did it for 5x5. Keep at it bro, it will come more quickly than you’ll realize. You’re gonna make it.
You got it king!
This is no longer a thread about why you don't press and now a thread about why you press. I press because I want bigger traps
I press so I can lift any b***h up with ease into the dirty dancing move
>I press because I want bigger traps
That’s like saying you squat because you want bigger lats
What's if he's Behind The Neck pressing?
then you’re moronic
Squat doesn't build your lats, but OHP builds your traps moron
Start doing them correctly.
Do you not shrug your shoulders at the end of the press?
No.
You're not pressing correctly
How do you do that?
I press because it's fun and I like it more than bench press.
Oh, and eventually I want to try strongman.
Its one of the only exercises where "mind to muscle connection" isnt a meme
The delts are the primary mover but I can choose to force the energy through my fricking ass cheeks if I wanted to. Lats, triceps, traps all the same. Easily the best compound movement
I hate how easy it to pinch the nerves in the elbow with it.
I have chest and triceps, back and biceps and leg and shoulders day. Which one do I put OHP in?
Chest and triceps
I would say leg/shoulder day, that's the prime mover.
My strict press went up considerably when I stopped doing it after bench pressing.
My traps are getting too big so I stopped doing ohp
>a more impressive feat of strength than a big bench
Not remotely.
>a more impressive feat of strength than a big bench
Not remotely
What the frick am I looking at?
peak performance

pick fitness form
OHP 225+ with good form is more impressive than doing a 405lb BP. I rarely ever see people do a decent OHP.
I think a 225 strict press is closer to a 365 bench, but it is probably more impressive to most people since you don’t see it nearly as often. But that’s just because people don’t do heavy shoulder training because they’re moronic
No one is impressed by a big bench you gymcel.
Truly, overhead pressing is The Great Filter.
Weak beginners won't do it, or will do it with dumbbells. The beginners who think they are strong won't do it, because they only care about squat/bench/deadlift. "Aesthetics" lifters will ignore it because it isn't easy or a machine. Bloaters won't do it because it doesn't scale as well with bodyweight.
Only those who really want it, and want it just to have it, are going to have a nice The Press.
>Rip says you don't have a quality press until you hit 300+ lbs
It's gonna be a fricking journey, thats for sure
Rip doesn't know anything about anything that isn't squat bench or deadlift.
Yeah but he does that moronic layback
just failed 185 today. Again. Stuck on 175 for life ig
Smaller jumps for OHP. Do you have plates smaller than 5lbs?
yeah I do, will try 180 for next cycle. Got wienery, decided I could go up 10 pounds
150lb x 3 at 180lb cant get past this though, eat more?
Oh boy you anons are gonna hate me. I use a fricking MACHINE for this
I am
175LBS BTW
Not bad, but why do you look up?
I can't really coordinate the putting your head through the bar shit, so I just look up throughout the ROM to prevent the bar from hitting my head
You are going to strain your neck and it hurts your lockout. Please learn the proper technique, anon.
nice.
arms/shoulder movement looks good and your setup is good.
You could lift more if you focus on stabilising your legs and hips, squeeze glutes and hips locked forward while externally rotating your hips. Similar to the top of a deadlift.
lots of love,
Anon
Is that sub 1pl8?
Wrong board
No it his 175lbs
Natural Selection
why are you black
Could I just replace OHP with the Clean And Press? It's just more fun
Clean and press incorporates the push press, not the press. But I think the push press has a place in overhead training for sure. Do both
Lenochka is the worst
The clean is pretty useless at the weight you should be pressing.
did 105 for 6 earlier
170 BW
>average bodyweight Press™er
For an absolute beginner what is the best way to program for the OHP? I've been following starting strength but I want to prioritise the overhead press.
My currents stats are
181cm / 5'11
96.5kg / 212lbs
28 years old
1 rep maxes
OHP - 45kg
Bench - 55kg
Squat - 97.5kg
Deadlift - 100kg
How long you've been training ? I'm 100% sure you can easily bench 70KG One rep max
Keep struggling mate, lift ass and eat heavy.
i'm at 55kg bros, so close to the 1pl8 dream
Same. I'm 6.1 on top of that. It was over before I ever began
I can OHP 55kg for 10 reps, based on the 1RM calculator I should be able to max at 73.3kg
Should I go for 70kg for now to see if I have what it takes?
maybe pyramid your way up there
try 60 for 3 first, then 65 for 1 and then 70
I maxed out at 65kg a few months back but it was kinda on the sloppy side, this pyramid might be worth a shot. thanks
my shoulders don't allow me doing it :/
Who's signing the paychecks, you or your b***h shoulders?
my mom if I ignore the cracking
Same, my shit healthcare system won't let me book a session with a doctor either. Shit sucks
Move out of Ameristan then.
I love OHP so much, I hated them up until I figured out how to do it with proper form, its so satisfying to progress on these since its such relatively low weight to some shit like a squat or deadlift
I am doing 1pl8 - 10 reps 4 sets. Only downside: i am doing it sitting down. Can't do it while standing. Is it a waste?
get a stronger core dummy
Why skip the core workout? Youre going to need it for other exercises
I am doing push-ups for core (2x50 with 10kg vest). Good enough?
You can never do enough pushups, though that's actually quite decent
Aiming for 2x60. So it's okay doing OHP sitting down? I will eventually do them while standing...
Should be fine, Arnie did his shoulder presses seated with dumbbells (his signature Arnold press). Maybe if you feel ready you should try standing OHP but with lighter weight than what you'd work with while seated
Yeah. I don't wanna end up like that one brazilian guy having the barbell snapping his neck.
This guy wasn't OHPing, there's no way you can do this pressing strictly with your OHP weight.
That’s a crosshitter trying to powerjerk something way above his skill level.
>THE PRESS
its literally the best exercise
I just pressed 65kg for 5. pretty happy
0 reason for OHP apart from occasional dumbbell OHP. all it’s doing is putting unnecessary mileage on your shoulders.
dyel loser
I bench 350 Black person, and I do almost 0 OHP.
355* im sorry
>completely replace all bench pressing with OHP
>shoulders no longer hurt
>chest no longer taking over physique
Take the PressPill
This for me. Any kind of pressing that isn't straight up messes with my shoulder (oldgay). OHP feels great. I do flies for chest.
>shoulders no longer hurt
Based, vertical pressing never bothers the shoulders.
>tfw stalled at 57.5kg forever
I just want one plate...
Impossible, thats too low to perma-plateau. Just stop being a homosexual and deload.
so put one plate on and lift it
>makes you bigger
>challenging to progress
Pick one, bish. If something is making you bigger it's making you push more weight.
I press because it builds up raw striking power.
Oh here they go again justifying over shit press
currently at 3x5x50kg, i could probably ohp around 1 plate for one if it wasn't for the fact that i bench before ohp
At 5x3 for 1pl8. Maxed out at 1.5pl8 for 1 a few weeks ago. The road to 2pl8 is a long one but I'll get there some day.
you are supposed to press with your elbows facing forward
You will never be a woman
moron
I'm currently on 85kg 5x5 paused.
currently doing OHP, rest pause, 10 kilos 32 reps
I just The Press™'d 185 5x5 today easy, whereas for a few weeks now I've been struggling doing multiple sets of that just due to getting lightheaded over and over.
Friday I'll be attempting a 5RM at 205, which I've done before, but it's still hard as frick. Goal is eventually being able to do one solid rep of lmao2plate
Finally about to hit 1pl8 1rm. Did a 55kg 1rm and nearly squeezed out a second rep. Feels good
It's the classic ego lift
>a more impressive feat of strength than a big bench
Lol. Only a salty benchlet could say something so fricking moronic and I say this as someone with a 250 lbs OHP.
>I say this as someone with a 250 lbs OHP.
post body
mr roid froggie?
I have no idea who that is supposed to be. I haven't posted on IST seriously since 2019.
i ohp 50 lbs for reps. get on my level.
I can standing press 80kg from rack, which is basically just over my bodyweight. Is this bad? It feels like not enough.
