bulgarian split squat

why the hell are these so damn hard

i can squat 285 for 5 reps ass to grass (not impressive im aware)
but i did these with 50 pounds dbs on each hand and i could barely do 10 reps

        your back is stronger than your legs probably. Single leg exercises are almost pure legs while back squats are posterior chain and legs

    It requires stabilization that you've never trained before. Started doing them only 2-3 weeks ago after years and realised just how painful they were. Going to keep doing them weekly until I overcome them.

    Because squats use the posterior chain heavily while these are glutes and mainly quads. A bit like how you can legpress much more than squat.

    I would only consider doing split squats after at least 1.5 miles of running. Anything less and my hamstrings are immediately raped without mercy

    Going from two legs to one leg is never as simple as being half as strong. Same as when you go from barbell bench to dumbbell bench.

    I do these using one 80-100lb kettlebell depending on what the gym I'm going to has. Are these good for replacing squats? I have a herniated disc and am terrified of squatting

        i find if you hold the weight like a frontsquat/goblet sqt it hits the lower back pretty good

          just tried it and its good, but i injured my left toe recently so i cant put it in that position (pic related) due to the pain, shame because it did seem better
