Because squat strength does translate into any other exercise.

Don't split squats result in a stronger squat over time?

your back is stronger than your legs probably. Single leg exercises are almost pure legs while back squats are posterior chain and legs

        yes

It requires stabilization that you've never trained before. Started doing them only 2-3 weeks ago after years and realised just how painful they were. Going to keep doing them weekly until I overcome them.

Because squats use the posterior chain heavily while these are glutes and mainly quads. A bit like how you can legpress much more than squat.

I would only consider doing split squats after at least 1.5 miles of running. Anything less and my hamstrings are immediately raped without mercy

Going from two legs to one leg is never as simple as being half as strong. Same as when you go from barbell bench to dumbbell bench.

I do these using one 80-100lb kettlebell depending on what the gym I'm going to has. Are these good for replacing squats? I have a herniated disc and am terrified of squatting

i find if you hold the weight like a frontsquat/goblet sqt it hits the lower back pretty good

    Sure, you lift weights.
But overall, you are unathletic and uncoordinated.

Do them like this instead so you are completely loading the weight on the front leg

is it easier or harder to balance that way?

        Anonymous

easier and you're not over stretching and shifting weight to the rear leg
