Calf raises

Have any of you seen ACTUAL significant results from calf raises?

I've been doing them for a year, and though I've gained vascularity, there has been no real size change.

      >Have any of you seen ACTUAL significant results from calf raises?
some, but then i figured what's wrong with them and i was astonished at what grew 😀 it always happens when i find proper isolation facilitating extended (more than half a minute) continuous tension on muscle belly

the reason regular calf raises do not work is because u get no time under tension on muscle belly
      >lol, i'm lifting myself, leg is locked in knee what is lifting me?
calves, but it's not continuous tension on muscle belly
      >because?
when knee is locked gastrocnemius rubs on the joint, it can't contract properly with straight leg, it is sputtering at best - no continuous tension on muscle belly, subpar muscle growth at best
where does it hurt immediately after max set
      >behind knee
there u go, it shoulde be pleasant burn right smack in the middle of calf
      >so bend knee
yup, unilaterally, other leg kicked backwards, hips pushed forward, i stand on a book and pump slowly - they fricking grew 😀
      >post pictures
lol, botto, it's not our first rodeo is it 😀

      >you're half repping cuh
but it would work botto, even static hold would work provided u bed the knee 😀

Yes - I punish my calves on both push and pull days. I go heavy and do at least 2 different exercises. I also don't stress it - they are slow to grow for most people. Just hit them consistently and they will grow.

You gotta start walking on your tippy toes all day. When it comes to size in calves, its all about the volume. But if you want to be athletic, its best to work on their strength which gives very low volume and change in size

You have to use a lot of weight. Calf raise machines have what? 50-100kg? Do zercher calf raises with >160kg.

Walk an hour a day. I got killer calves from walking daily and going from 300 to 200 pounds.

Lately, I just calf raise twice a week. 3x12xwhatever you can do safely.

Slow negatives and slow reps. Calves are 90% slow twitch fibers so you really have to put the muscles under a relatively long period of time to exhaust all the fibers and the fast twitch fibers in the calves are the smallest kind of fast twitch fibers. Whereas other muscle groups can get a lot of group with relatively short bouts of training (say 30-60 seconds in a set) calves need much more time to really exhaust all those endurance fibers and get them to grow.

Calf training should be extremely painful as you get to the last reps. Otherwise, you're not doing it right. BTW, go to failure with calves; that's when you cannot raise your heel above parallel.

I'm not gonna bother training forearms and calves, frick this. Mine aren't that small, forearms are 15 inch, calves 16.5
Everything is genetics but you can obviously grow them with training.

Sprints. Twice a week. If you're extra moronic, sprints on a slight uphill.

High weight, high reps, early prioritization in the session and long stretching. I do calf raises on the leg press and hold at the bottom for about 5 seconds then last rep finish with 15 seconds for first set, 30 for next set, and 45 for the final set.

newbie do I really have to post the copypasta?
    Really?

    >since the moment you stood up for the first time your calf+soleus muscle makes the strongest combination of muscles on your body, their sheer and unmatched total volume as a two year old is enough to be more than the heaviest weightlifter can bench and with each passing year your calf has moved from lifting more volume than a car and eventually an elephant to some persons who do so much volume work with their calves they have lifted small mountains worth of weight
    >and you think a few calf raises are going to show any results

If you want to see your calf get bigger you have to live it newbie. Put a backpack on and go for a hike, do a thousand+ calf raises. We use pyramid terminators as a good exercise for this.
You doing a few tiny little calf raises in a gym setting means nothing, because your volume in that exercise means nothing to the calf's total volume per day.

Make sure you include seated calf raises in your routine.
These hit the underlying soleus part of the muscle, which standing raises don't.

my calves are shot after every carry session i do. sandbag carries, farmers carries, suitcase carries, etc. just make sure to do them barefoot and go as fast as possible. if you can run with the weight, it's too light. for each step your calf needs to take your entire bw + the added weight + momentum forces so it's kinda like simulating an obese person walking to the fridge.

yes. my calves hit 19" recently. 3 sets seated and standing each 3x a week. I admit that my size is probably linked to growing up heavier and autistically walking on my toes in private. Plus my last two jobs had me walking 15-20k steps a day on average.

no. i can go toe to toe with any guy in the gym. literally anyone, i will match him and do the exact same weight, same rom, same speed, everything. and my calves are so small its almost a violation to post them online.

whatever correlation there is with training and calf size, its so small that its simply not worth even a minute of your time.

Here is what you are going to do. You are going to walk 10 miles everyday. You are going to also keep up your calf raising routine. You also need to eat a caloric surplus. You also are going to stop sitting in chairs as they heavily restrict blood flow. Stand, squat, or lay down.

To an extent, the harder you do them the better the result. Like on a bench press if you go to failure you don't really need to go any harder than that, but on a calf raise if you can't get to that peak contracted position, keep lifting and just keep going and going until you literally can barely move at the ankle. I do like 10-12 reps then like 10 partials.
