Calisthenics are inferior to free weights when it comes to bodybuilding, absolute strength and ease of progression.
    However their pros include
    >ease of access can be done anywhere
    >balance and mobility increase
    >easier on the joints and tendons
    >free, mostly
    >relative strength
    >incentive to lose weight and get leaner
    >fun progressions
Both have their pros and cons

It takes like 20-50 bucks a month to get a gym membership where you can do all this gay shit + actual training. I get doing street fitness if you have no other options, I did it myself during the lockdowns, but it will never be even half as good as an actual gym.

The other anon gave homosexual answers, let me try

          >no weight progression
With the combination of just change of leverage and unilateral variations you can reach intermediate/advanced lifts for most exercises.

          >chicken legs
Not true: nordic curls and reverse nordic curls. They have the added benefit of stretching your harmstrings and quads giving you bulletproof knees. Also thanks to the insane leverage arm of the exercise they can be progressed after they are maxed out with minimal weight.

          >can't train if the weather is too shit
Black person a wall mounted pull up bar and rings is all you need.

          >have to train with kids and teenagers
          See above answer.

            Anonymous

I don't want to do 1500 thousand variations on the same exercise for gorillions of reps to achieve the same benefit as heavy compound exercises and a few machines. Weighted pull-ups are cool. Back extensions are cool. I don't understand why I need to make ALL of my training like this. Promoting calisthenics only is like promoting extremely restrictive diets. Sure, you can survive, but why? What is the point of limiting yourself?

              Anonymous

              >gorillions of reps
if you know what you're doing, you won't be able to execute more than a few reps per set
you wouldn't bench press 120lbs for hundreds reps, you would just add more weight, same with bw exercises, you just need to move to a harder variation
of course adding weights is easier, but your athletic capability stays just one-dimensonal, whilst by doing more complex cali stuff you get more versatile

              Anonymous

You don't need to do gorillions of reps, just be in the 8-12 reps range eith 2 reps in the tank before failure. You have some twisted idea about calisthenics and it seems like you are not willing to give it an honest look. The reason for it is that you can make progress for at least 3 years wherever you want without spending a dime and it's fun. About the variations vs machines argument: you have a point, but it's just a preference. To me is not convienient to travel to a gym to use weights and machines when I can just train on the floor at home.

Frick you Rabbi. People should be doing both.
      >Want wider lats?
Do more pullups then switch to assisted pulls or pulldowns to work past failure.
      >Want a bigger chest?
Incline bench with weights then switch to dips to burn out your pecs and tris.
      >Big shoulders?
HSPU and OHP are equal for strength gains in 90% of cases and lateral raises can be done with anything from a dumbell to a brick laying around in the park
      >Popping abs?
See how they look when you can hold an L-sit.
      >Big legs?
Gonna have to get under a barbell for that one. But if you just want some basic strength and definition then pistol squats and nordic curls can get you there.
      >Spinal erectors?
Barbell wins here. GHR are fine but can't compare to RDLs.

What are isometrics and dynamic sprints?

You can absolutely build legs with bodyweight or light weights.

Every single dipshit that says calisthenics are the nEw YeaR nEW mEeEE gays you only see in the gym during the first 3 weeks of the year and the last 3 weeks. Then the gym goes back to normal population of people that actually want to give a frick.

I did weighted calisthenics for almost two years and just recently bought a barbell and weight. My legs obviously suffered, just now getting back to my pre-COVID squat.
Just do both, who cares. If you have the space and means to get some equipment like a rack, barbell, etc. there's no good reason not to. I spend almost 10x more than my home gym costs on guns and ammunition nearly every year, analyze your priorities.
