As someone recovering from a knee injury I kind of want to know as well. I just don’t trust squats much, and the smith machine hurts my knees. Doing body squats, machine curls and leg raises and those hip flexor machines in the meanwhile m, but I’d like to get back to at least 1 plate squats again as I recover.

Well, going super light right now with my knee brace on still. Trying to strengthen my vagus by doing deep squats while also working on the hips, the quads to support the knee better. I know I glutes more which is why I think I want to add hip thrusts. But only women in my gym do them so the last few leg days I said Frick it. Which is dumb, and I’ll work around to it.

Leg curls, cycling for knee rehab worked for me

Yea, I started biking and gave up running and happier for it. Problem is I can’t get any muscle on my legs and that’s because I bike so much and didn’t do much leg lifts before and after my injury.

So I’ll check into leg curls more, thanks for the help

Yea sorry I just wanted to ask the same question as you bc my brother has a similar issue but I phrased it poorly.

good for you, but try convincing him to loose some weight too.

I'm using the IST method which, thanks to anons here worked for me: bullying

unironcally the best motivator to change is social shaming, keep up the good work just make sure encourage him to change rather than being demoralized by it.

I have torn cartilage in both my knees, it took literal years but I hit squats today with no pain.

Talk to a physical therapist get him to correct your form and develop a rehab routine and most importantly remember WAGMI

        >Speaking to a physio about form

Physios are fricking quacks who have never picked up a decent weight in their life for the most part
Sure anyone can critique form for a 60kg squat,
Squating 120 properly? They'll say straighten up with no knowledge of how to do that

Speak to an experienced lifter, someone in the gym whos older still lifting decent numbers not looking fricking broken

      >smith machine hurts my knees
yes, because the force on the knee joint during a smith machine or wall squat is greater than the regular squat

      Overweight fuck

You have poor form of you fricked your knees at the smith machine

I think linear leg press doesn't work your glutes as much, so you won't get a juicy butt.

depends on your leg position. Same as with Bulgarian split squat. The further the feet (the higher in case of press), the more it emphasizes glutes. The closer, the more it's for quads

I think it's my hip flexors but I hurt something squatting. Tried doing machines and the pain is there on bad girl machine in the groin. Don't feel it at all on good girls, leg press, calf machine, hamstring curls, or glute thrust. Did this for two weeks and went back to squats. It started hurting again even at 60%. I'd rather just squat than do six machines trying to make up for it so it's getting to be annoying.

Squat once a week, leg press another day.
Deadlift once a week, good mornings another day.
    Simple as.

Sure. Leg press doesn't do as much for my legs as squats but it might work better than squats for you. Try it in your program for 8 weeks and see what happens

Hack squats are better imo but I don't care what you do, in fact I welcome one less SS squatcel infesting this board. We had a thread about bodybuild and some homosexual was telling him to do 3 day TM lord have mercy.

Squats are superior but if you can't do them for any reason then leg press is the next best.

Leg press exclusively works your legs. Squat works both your legs, your back and your core. Therefore, squat is superior. End of story.

leg press always fricks up my left knee even with baby weight but I have no problem squatting
    what causes this?

  14. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

Sure, if simply building strong legs is all you are after.
I squat AND leg press on the same day because I prefer to be more well-rounded. I'll do about 5 working sets of heavy squats, then, move to the leg press for 3-5 more sets of lighter (3-4 plates per side) leg presses with toes as low on the press plate as I can get for optimizing quad activation, doing 8-12 second slow negatives for sets of 10. It isn't heavy, but if you're not fricking fried by the last rep when your set is reaching the 2 minute mark, then you're not doing it right.

Have fun with no ass, weaker core, and reduced transference of skills (free barbell squatting is closer to irl strength-requiring moves).

Its all about your program. I stopped squatting for a year due to my knee hurting whenever I squatted. I did linges, DL, and leg press. My legs look great and work fine.

If your goal is to grow your quads, then unironically yes. Squats will work your glutes and stabilizers more, but then again, you could simply exercises to your leg pressin'
