it's harder than lifting and takes longer.

Start pushing yourself man! First couple of times I went to the gym I was super nervous but after a while you realise people dont give a shit about you and theyre all worried about themselves. The less you overthink it the better, good luck king

Is there by any chance a park with some equipment next to you that you have access to?
I have one of these motherfrickers 3 blocks away from my house, I go there in the middle of the night and frick about with
    >dips
    >handwalking on parallel bars
    >Hand "jumping" on parallel bars
    >Abs, L-sit isometrics
    >Pullups
As long as your upper body goes, you're pretty much covered
For legs you can do lunges with a gallon of water on each hand or something that weighs enough

You can build some muscle at home if you're untrained, but not much. You can also go to some park with bars and make more progress. Eventually tho you should join a gym, is not scary really.

Home gyms are premium but also a big investment.

Bring a friend to the gym it’ll help you be less scared

I have no friends, it would help though

Eventually I might get brave enough, but I’d like to be somewhat ready before I go

This is a huge trap. If you don't feel now, you will NEVER feel ready.

I am not ready to be amongst people who can do pushups. It scares me too much to put myself into the open and shpw my weakness. I want to be atleast somewhat presentable and forgettable

Start at home from doing inclined pushups or knee pushups. Google "pushup progression". Then do 3 sets of pushups to failure 3 times a week. Try to add 1 extra rep every new workout. Do this until you build a good number of pushups.

            Thats the point

            >but I’d like to be somewhat ready before I go
This is a huge trap. If you don't feel now, you will NEVER feel ready.

was saying, you never will be ready, never will be presentable, and always will be forgettable. First of all, no one gives a frick, second of all, 99% of people will look like shit or DYELs, three being ready and looking presentable is in your mind, its not about how you look, its about how you feel you look and about how you feel ready. You can control that, just take the leap. And no, you can't realistically build a noticeable amount of muscle at home with out buying equipment.

This. It’s like that quote about not doing something so people won’t judge you is like not jumping around in skyrim because the NPCs will think you’re weird. And they won’t judge you. Even if you frick up and someone needs to save you on the bench they’ll probably respect you for trying.

              >guy can't do a single pushup
              >"no you need equipment or else you won't build muscle"
yeah, surely you can't just push up your body, you need to push an empty bar. he's a beginner, he can easily do bodyweight exercises for a start

Nobody is saying he can’t train at home we’re saying it’s better to start going to the gym sooner rather than later.

                guy above me literally said
                >And no, you can't realistically build a noticeable amount of muscle at home with out buying equipment.
you can build a pretty solid base, although I agree that past the point when you can do 50+ pushups it's gonna become counterproductive.

He didnt ask "can I do exercises at home"? He asked "can I get muscles", and the answer is realistically no, yeah some people can, if they have either good genes or crazy determination. Genes are in the air, and this guy does not have that, and he does not have it in him to work really hard consistently at home enough to have any sort of muscle growth be visible.

Of course anyone can exercise at home, but his goal I imagine is to build muscle because he thinks that having big muscles will make him a better person that people will like. If that is his mindset, thats fine, but with that mindset you need to see visible growth or you will get demotivated. The best advice is for him to just suck it up and go to the gym, it is the easiest past for him even though it might seem like the hardest.

One can only hope that he goes through with it and in the future he discovers that it is not the muscles that make you a better person, but the fact that you dedicate yourself to something and work hard at it.

                only correct answer
                here, try this routine: https://roamstrong.com/workout-system/
I'm still on it and I built muscle for sure. If you ever outgrow this (which will probably take you at least half a year of consistent training) THEN think about joining a gym. Also get some form of beginner's stretching routine (literally anything as long as it's full body).
Also read the fricking sticky and check your nutrition (don't be autistic about it but cut out the obvious - snack foods, fast food, eat more unprocessed plants and more protein, drink more water, maybe get some creatine if you're feeling fancy etc.)
You can improve tremendously with literally a 30 buck pull up bar and some determination. wagmi.

Google reddit's bodyweight fitness recommended routine
also can get bands and/or water canister with a handle to fill up and use as a dumbbell substitute

Both are very weak substitutes, barbells aren't that expensive

OP said "buying all the stuff is too expensive" so I gave the most poorgay options. 20 pound dumbbells will cost what, at least $60? a water canister is much cheaper, can be bought for less than $10, even for heavier equivalents.

If you are finding excuses to go to the gym you will find an excuse to do a bodyweight routine.

Eventually the fear of me will overwhelm fear of the gym so badly you'll never even think of skipping a day again
