Can I not lose muscle if I eat 1200 calories a day?

I am fat, but I have been working out for 3 months and I have made some limited gains. If I eat 1200 for say 6 months to lose weight, will I also lose muscle alongside fat? The food that I will be eating will be high in protein anyway.

I am 177cm/5'10" tall and I weigh 115kg/253lbs.

You'll lose some muscle in addition to fat, but you probably don't have much muscle to begin with so it won't really be noticable.

When you first start working out, you get "newbie gains". This is when your body is adapting to having to use it's muscles to their full potential for the first time in your life. During this period is where you can make a lot of gains in a shorter period of time and will plateau after a year or two of lifting.

Since you're so fat, your muscle will probably continue to get stronger for now. Your body will burn a lot of excess fat at only 1200 calories a day.

Yeah, I can always rebuild muscle in a few weeks or a few months anyway. Even when I am on a 1200 calories diet, I will still do curls, bench presses, OHP, rows, and use my treadmill and if I don't have enough energy, I guess I will just use pre-workout or caffeine prior.

eating low calories is worse than eating no calories. ur just telling ur body to rapidly slow down the metabolism instead of burning through the fat that's stored in u.
eating lots of protein is good tho. do that on ur maintenance calories while also doing resistance training to build muscle. that will help u lose fat faster.

I understand that I may plateau, and if I do, I will just gradually reduce my calorie intake by 50 in each increment so I can finally drop the fat. Even if I am eating 1000 calories a day and still not losing weight, I will just go for a 10km walk or something.

how is he going to lose fat if he's eating maintenance? moron

if he's eating maintenance AND doing resistance training, he will build muscle. when he builds muscle, his metabolism will become faster, and the faster metabolism will burn through his fat if he doesn't increase the clorie intake(because gradually his maintenance will change). a few months(maybe weeks) later, he should gradually increase his calorie intake by 250-300 cals to reach new maintenance but not change anything else. it's funny u called me a moron when u don't know how the body works. lose fat in a healthy way is all about the metabolism. go ahead, eat low calorie diet, u will not see the fat loss results a guy going on maintenance calorie diet who does resistance training will. at this point, not eating anything is better than eating low calories. one will force ur body to burn fat to gain energy, the other will keep ur body fed just enough to not burn the fat. it's the wrong signal to send.

if you eat sufficient protein, you probably wont loose much if any.

Is it possible to get at least 100g of protein into a 1200-calorie diet? Taste be dammed.

one gram of protein is 4 calories so you do the math

Seems pretty reasonable. As long as I eat lots of lean meats, nuts, and fish from a can, getting 100g of protein on 1200 calorie is certainly doable.

Sure if your diet is just 20 eggs plus salt and vitamins or all organ meat or some similar high fat and protein but low calorie diet.

So ex super fat here (457lbs) 6'3 couple things I've learned man

Figure out what ur healthy weight for your height and then figure out the daily maintenance for that weight

Eat at those calories and workout until you hit your desired weight

If you try and do severe cuts you'll develop eating disorders and frick up your hormones rebound and never make any solid progress

Then you'll get stuck in a vicious cycle

Once you figured out your calories find a simple strength training routine and follow it for 3months and then switch to a body building routine with dumbells

Switch between those 2 training cycles for your first year or 2 after that is on you boss

You got me for another 2hrs and I'll pop on throughout the day but AmA
