Canned anchovies

I hear a lot about canned sardines, but what about anchovies? My grocery store was out of the canned sardines in tomato sauce that I usually buy, so I decided to go for the anchovies since I like these on my pizza and in my pasta. The macros also seem good, and since they are a small fish I assume it's not so full of heavy metals as tuna. Am I making a mistake? Why is nobody eating these like sardines?

Nutritionally they're not very different. My local stores don't even sell anchovies, just sardines. Probably why it's not as popular.

I've only ever had them on pizza, in pastas or in salads. Tonight I will try them straight from the can.

My girlfriend and I eat DEENZ together all the time after our workouts. In my time with her, I have achieved a PHD in DEENZology. The problem with anchovies is that they don't actually contain a lot of protein, and they do contain a frickton of salt. Trust me, check the label. It's like 4g per serving for 90% of you DV of sodium.

    >Top-tier nutrition: Matiz canned octopus, Bumblebee smoked oysters
    >Best all-around (availability, taste, nutrition): King Oscar sardine filets (bristling/ wild caught is also god-tier in taste but the whole fish seems to be more oily... said as a long-time wild caught only enthusiast.) Price is high though. Matiz canned octopus also has good flavor if you can get past the salty mucus and can find it, but King Oscar is still the GOAT for flavor alone.
    >Best price, best for lean bulk: Chicken of the Sea sardines in water
    >Really good tasting junk food: Anchovies
    >Disgusting: Chicken of the Sea sardines in ""mustard sauce""
    >Haven't tried yet: Canned trout, salmon

Sardines in hot sauce might compete with "chicken of the sea" for best budget option

Many people also seem to like them in tomato sauce. I haven't tried either option (hot or tomato sauce,) but it seems like it could work. These are definitely on our "to try" list.

As a separate note, I am very sad to report that I am not in love with Cento's sardines. Cento makes excellent pickled food products, so I thought their sardines would also be excellent and I was very excited to try them. They aren't great. I found them to be a bit dry and the flavor just isn't there like it is with King Oscar's filets. If you're going to eat budget DEENZ, Chicken of the Sea really does seem to be the best option. I'll also let you guys know what I think of the canned salmon and rainbow trout we bought.
