        >prediabtic
        >high cholesterol
And you're telling me you need to gain weight? Assuming for a second that you are in fact not obese, but rather, underweight as you seem to be implying, gaining weight is going to make both of your problems worse.

I am not prediabetic but close to it (5.6 hba1c, 90 fasting blood glucose) and I no longer have high cholesterol (dropped from 200 to 150 with <100 LDL) after getting on a stricter diet. I'm young and skinny (always have been) but im afraid of becoming prediabetic and/or my cholesterol going back to >=200. but at the same time it seems like gaining muscle would be a good thing for me as I am weak and gaunt. are you implying that it's better for me to stay at my current weight than risk either of these things?

Well all of your shit is in range so you can probably afford to lighten up a little bit and add some carbs and saturated fats, as well as research options for vegetarian bodybuilding, and continue to monitor your levels. Have you consulted a doctor about your hba1c? It sounds weird as frick that it's 5.6 while your FBG is only 90.

is it that strange? My doctor just said there's nothing to worry about. Is it worth investing in a continuous glucose monitor?

Just eat legumes, olive oil and lean white meat.
You could also eat tuna, salmon, avocado
Legumes with olive oil should pump up your calories kinda easily and healthily.

thanks, I havent tried legumes, I'll try loading up on those. Already use olive oil and lean meat, I was a bit afraid of going beyond a pound of meat but I guess I should be ok as long as my saturated fat is sufficiently low

              >I need to gain muscle
No you don't fatty, you need to loose weight

I think I would wither away if I started cutting...

You're 21 BMI, you can stand to go down to 20. Just a few pounds but a better base

                >is it that strange?
I don't know very much about it, but hba1c measures your average blood glucose over 3 months, 5.6 indicates that your average blood glucose is 114, but if your body is capable of pushing your blood glucose down to 90, you're nowhere near diabetic, so why the hell would the average be 114? Do you eat every 2 hours or something? My hba1c is 4.8(91 avg BG) and my FBG tends to be 85-95, which logically seems normal, as you spend the majority of your time fasted, your hba1c should be fairly close to your FBG, right?

Could be high glycemic variability. An oral glucose tolerance test might be warranted.
