A nurse friend of mine measured my blood pressure for shits and giggles and I had 140/80

I'm a fit guy in my early 20s with low bodyfat, past 1/2/3/4, and regularly hike for 6 hours straight and I feel healthy, but this shit says I'm not

What do I make of this? Maybe I got measured when I was amped up or something, it was like half an hour after the gym

        No, I told you 140/80 is perfect. Blood pressure goes up and down all the time. If you had average blood pressure 140/80 then maybe, but you just said you had been at the gym. They keep blood pressure measurements as low to put as many people on blood pressure drugs as possible. Now stop wasting everyone's time including your own and work on your real issues.

            Post exercise (particularly weight lifting) blood pressure can stay elevated for hours due to stress and fatigue.

    BP is regularly measured wrong by nurses and doctors. Look up the absolutely scientifically correct procedure for BP measurement, you have to account for 19 factors to get this shit right. Those include sitting quietly with your arms rested and back supported for at least 5 minutes before measuring. Yes, even talking raises BP. Thousands upon thousands of pts get on blood pressure lowering meds when they shouldn't due to this.

    If they only took one measurement then it's basically meaningless unless it's off the charts. I have to get mine done for work, my systolic value can be 20-25 lower over measurements taken a couple of minutes apart, same state of rest, same HR etc. As another anon said, if this is an average value over many measurements then I'd consider it elevated, but as a one off, think nothing of it.

    If you are under 30 and have heart issues it's probably from the spike proteins from the vaccine shedding off onto you. If you have been in close contact with someone vaccinated you have them. Young people never had heart issues before the year 2020. Shouldn't have taken the vaccine moron

    Hi op I have high blood pressure and have been on medication for it since I was 22 (33 now). 140/80 is high but not alarmingly so. The bottom number is the more important of the two and yours is fine. But at rest you really should be below 120/80. When my doctor first medicated me mine was over 100 at rest.

    The biggest lifestyle changes you can make are to lose weight if you're overweight, improve your cardio by doing at least 30 minutes of moderate cardio 5 times a week, and reduce the amount of salt in your diet. Stop eating fast food, restaurant food, or prepacked foods because they're all salt bombs. You don't want to be eating more than 500mg of salt in a meal because it will spike your blood pressure. Look up the DASH diet, which is a diet specifically designed to improve cardiovascular health for people with hypertension.

    I'd also recommend buying an electric blood pressure monitor at your pharmacy and start checking it regularly. If you're still concerned about it then obviously talk to your doctor.

      I think it's probably due to the fact that I wasn't really at rest
      I did sit down for the measurement but previously was walking around and stuff

        That's exactly what it is. If you want an accurate measurement, avoid any caffeine and wait at least an hour after eatint. Then sit next to a table where you can rest your arm at heart level for approximately 5 minutes before taking your measurement. That's ideal conditions to get the most accurate measurement. Guarantee you'll have perfect blood pressure.

    Could be anxiety, stress, or any number of other things. One reading in isolation means little. Several repeated high readings justify monitoring at home. If it's elevated at home for multiple readings too while truly resting, I'd follow up with your doc.

    Actual medanon here, not a nurse. You are fine. There's a ton of factors that affect BP and I guarantee your friend took none of them into account. A random 140/80 is not out of the ordinary. If you're actually worried then schedule an appointment with your doctor.
