Clogged nose at night

Help IST: every morning I wake up with one of my nostrils clogged and it makes it so i can't breathe through my nose. I already take allergy meds, but I still have a lot of sinus buildup.

Is there any solution to this? Or do I need to see if my septum is deviated and get surgery? Or just use nasal decongestants until my body gives out?

This shit is so annoying

I do a saline rinse of my nose and use rhinocort nasal spray afterwards. I do have nasal polyps but I’m too povvo to get surgery right now because of interest rates eating up my pay.

Have the same problem. Would strongly recommend the Neil Med sinus rinse bottle. Once before bed and once when you wake up.

I had one of these squeezy type bottles once before and manages to fill up my ear with water. Think I need to look into more of a neti pot that uses a gentler flow.

That happens on the rare occasion that I'm more congested than usual. Giving my nose a good blow before the sinus rinse usually solves that problem.

Might use this tip. I had a ct scan booked to get my sinus checked but then the whole covid thing happened and non essential stuff like this got canned.

Do a 30-60 second super intense workout whenever your nose is clogged. Adrenaline unclogs your nose, because your brain thinks you're running for your life, so it cuts all the stuffy nose bullshit and instead focuses on maximizing oxygen intake.
If this doesn't work, go talk to a doctor.

Sure, I'll do this when I wake up in the middle of the night

Stop eating dinner. Something you’re eating is causing an allergic reaction. I switched to a mostly carnivore diet and I stopped having to blow my nose when I wake up. Every time I have a big dinner filled with carbs or sugar I wake up congested now and I don’t normally anymore. It’s worth a shot.

Intredasting. Any idea what you were eating more specifically?

I do saline rinses in the morning in the shower. Try to use non-scented detergent with your bedding, I know its weird but wash your pillow with bleach, not just the pillow case, you can do this once a month (recommended twice to 4 times a year), replace the pillow after a year, pillows build up with dust and other allergens and need to be tossed after a year anyway, they need to be washed occasionally.
Asides that try to dust your room, if you have carpets get rid of those if you can or use a carpet cleaner, just vinegar and water is fine, just vacuuming doesn't help pick up the dust.
Also try to get a plastic piss sheet for your bed, it prevents ur mattress from accumulating allergens/dust/sweat/w/e and prevents it from affecting your nose when you sleep. You should also be vacuuming your mattress on top of replacing the sheets atleast once every other week, ik that sounds weird but its part of normal cleaning.

Most people aren't really taught how to properly clean for some reason, people don't seem to realize you have to wash pillows, or get carpets deep cleaned once a year and maintain it with a home carpet cleaner once a month. I had a guy who didn't know you had to replace your "wash cloth" or wash your shower loofah occasionally. But keeping a clean environment should help reduce mucus build up at night, an air purifier can help too, if none of that helps than yeah, it could be a structural issue, but you'd have to see a doctor about that. Sometimes allergy meds won't help if your environment is too dusty/full of allergens. Hope it helps, I have bad allergies and an underbite from mouth breathing so much.

I usually clean pretty well, but I'll see if an air purifier and more consistent cleaning helps. It does also happen when I travel, usually.

I have a deviated septum and allergies. I'm not getting the surgery to pay for the ~~*doctors*~~ boat payment or whatever. My allergies got better when I stopped taking claratin. Allergy meds work by drying out you mucous membranes, imagine the inside of your nostrils being dried out and chapped. I noticed a bleeding crack in one of my nostrils, so I stopped. Plus some mucous is good to trap dust and shit. I found nasal decongestants didn't work much. Saline rinse and flonase help. Chewing gum also helps, but that doesn't work when you're asleep. Everybody is different so what works for me might not work for you. Try some thing for a month and see if it works

I can recall two meals specifically. One was when I had Mexican food for dinner (chips, tortilla, etc) and the next morning I woke up congested and blowing my nose, and the other was when I binged on ice cream one night before bed. I woke up blowing snot out of my nostrils in a way that I had not previously for a long time.

Guzzling water should provide temporary relief. Being hydrated apparently thins some of the mucus.

Then stop. I was the same and then I said frick it and stopped taking them. After a while all allergy disappeared completely.
Also the second half of all of my showers is a cold shower. I don't know if it helps or not but it's something that might have played a role.

Join the ice plunge club homie. I started with plunging my face in a bowl of ice water and now i got an ice tub for the whole body. Will be a nice way to reset your facial cavities via thermal expansion / contraction to move things along.

get an air purifier with a hepa and run it all day long. Used at a thrifter is good if the filter isn't shot

You can diy a decent purifier with duct tape, a box fan, and a couple filters

the most important part is the filter, everything else is fluff

    Are you taking advil?
Basically my biggest problem was always inflammation
Sinus meds help with things like runny noses, but they don't actually soothe inflammation

I had to have nasal surgery for polyps, deviation, and turbinate reduction
it worked for a while, but ultimately it was an advil addiction that saved me

I don't really ever need to go past the daily dosage, so just one if I'm feeling fairly stopped up
two at night because I like advil PM

I have this same thing. Litterally the only thing that works is the nasal decongestants that you spray up there to open everything up. That shit is like crack and I can see how it would be easy to get addicted to it. Its very nice to be able to breathe through both barrels. I think my septum is fricked though, I cant blow out my right nostril, septum is on an angle and works like a one way valve. Probably need to get it operated on and bored out or something. I hate going to doctors though.
